There are so many things that have happened in 2012. I had a close family member and a great friend who are both facing a tough battle with cancer. I'm in a tough situation at work that challenges me each day as I strive to keep my students safe. The country faced some tough challenges with the violence in our malls and schools. Finances are on everyone's mind as just being able to afford a home and pay the bills is growing tougher. We've had some horrible weather related issues that have reminded us what is really important. But even with those negatives, 2012 has been a wonderful year. We survived the Mayan Apocalypse. That was really such a let down! We also have remained a country where freedom of speech and the ability to make choices for our government and selves has continued to thrive. It has also been a wonderful year for me personally. I've had four stories published and two more are set to be published soon. Being an author is a dream come true. I finally am able to share my stories with readers who love them. In 2012, I met so many wonderful people who became close friends, from authors like Liz Crowe and Anne Holly who helped me get my foot in the door to Becky who is the sister of my heart. I've met readers and fans of my books and enjoyed hearing that someone else loves the stories I tell. I've become the co-owner of Inkspell Publishing and helped make so many other people's dreams come true. The authors at Inkspell are close friends that I'd do anything for. They are like an extended family as we work together. My Inkspell partner, Shilpa has given me an amazing opportunity to make a difference in so many people's lives. I'm so grateful to her for seeing the skills in me. Now to look forward to 2013. Let's set a goal, a resolution or a wish for this coming year. What will yours be? What do you wish for you, for the country or the world? My wish for 2013 is... I wish that my family and I remain healthy and happy. Share your wish and be entered for the $5 gift card as well as the grand prize giveaway! And don't forget to leave your email address to be entered to win the grand prize from the blog hop! I was one of the blog sites that brought you the cover reveal for this amazing book and now I'm fortunate to share with you the book's release! Genesis Queen is book three in the Road to Hell series and definitely worth checking out! Today I'm putting Gracen in the hot seat to talk about her writing style and favorite characters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m so excited to have you here today. I know that the readers are looking forward to learning more about you. GRACEN: Thanks for having me! It’s an honor to be here. Now onto some fun questions! If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why? GRACEN: I’d change so much. But I’d probably start with eliminating hate, because it’d probably correct so much that is wrong with our world. If you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow? GRACEN: Eat whatever I wanted without worrying about getting fatter. LOL If it were to be soon, I’d probably never clean the house or wash clothes again either. Why waste time doing the things I hate? And definitely spend more time with family. When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive! GRACEN: When my two children were born. Nothing can make you feel more alive than when you’re bringing life into this world. When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful? GRACEN: The last person I helped in need, I gave them an anomoyous gift card to the grocery store. I don’t help people for the recognition, so I rarely do it in any capacity where they know who it’s coming from. What television sitcom is most like your family? Why? GRACEN: I’d say the Addams Family if it was still on, because we’re all a bit odd and zany. For example, my youngest who is eleven, he convinced us to let him keep the box that our new stove came in so he could put it in his room and sleep in it! We all that was a bit odd. But we let him keep the box. LOL I can’t think of any current sitcom that makes me think of my family. Who is hotter- Vampire, Shifter, Demon or Angel? Why? GRACEN: My first thought was vampire because they were my first love. But then my fallen angel in my Road to Hell series gave me a mental elbow to the ribs and told me that was the wrong answer. So, I guess I’ll go with fallen angel—even though fallen wasn’t one of your options. The why is because there is so much I can do with them when I write. What’s your favorite thing to do to relax? GRACEN: *laughs* Even when I should be relaxing I rarely am. But I guess the time I relax the most is when I’m watching Supernatural, the Vampire Diaries or The Walking Dead with my boys. Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author? GRACEN: Yes and no. I always dreamed of being an author, but the reality was that I had to pick a “real” career to pay the bills. So, I became a paralegal, which didn’t leave a whole lot of time to write. Plus, it’d wipe me out mentally and I would be too exhausted to write. Not until we made the decision to alter our lives so I could quit work and take care of our children, did I pick the dream back up. What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult? GRACEN: The biggest impact was Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and simply because her book, The Flame and Flower, was the first romance book I ever read. From that moment on, I was in love with love. As an adult, I wish I could write more like Nalini Singh, but otherwise, I wouldn’t attribute one author to having an impact on me. To me, they’re just the average person like any other person out there. Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing? GRACEN: A computer, my muse, Dom, a cup of coffee and that’s it. What have you learned the most from being in the writing business? GRACEN: You gotta have thick skin. People are mean! LOL They don’t mind trashing your work to the point you feel you shouldn’t even call yourself a writer, but they also have no problems tearing you down, as well. Tell us about your latest release: (blurb, excerpt, cover) GRACEN: Genesis Queen is book three in the Road to Hell series. The series must be read in order or the reader will be confused. Throughout the series, Madison is resistant to becoming the Queen of Hell, running from her husband, who has ties to Hell, and saving her son from the evil that could mark his life. Supernatural and human friends aid her escape from her husband. She’s gone to Hell and back—literally—to save one of those friends, but she didn’t escape the fiery locale unscathed. In Genesis Queen, the final lines are drawn and there is a resolution to the entire series. Genesis Queen Blurb: Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn. Madison’s mission is complete. Nix is rescued from Hell and her son safe from his dark destiny. But as she rests in the safe harbor of Nix’s love, her demonic husband warns of a murderous plot. Can she trust that it’s the truth and not another scheme to claim her for Hell’s throne? Sometimes internal conflict can house our biggest demons. With allies divided and prophecy heralding defeat, Madison gambles on Micah’s tenuous honor to keep their son protected. Torn between her heart’s desires and her dark requirements, Madison worries her hellish fate cannot be avoided. When betrayal comes from an unlikely direction, all their futures may be damned. In the darkest hour of Madison’s life, an undeniable providence will transpire. Who can she trust? And how far will she fall to defeat her foes? Amid the rubble of defeat, will Hell’s Genesis Queen dawn? Genesis Queen Excerpt: “I like the way you move, kitten.” She took a deep breath, like she needed the extra oxygen to deal with him. “Did you square away the angels in Hell?” “Yes.” Details weren’t necessary when they both knew he’d instituted a brutal torture regimen for all of them. “Dance with me?” “To this music?” “You didn’t appear to be having any problem.” He held his hand out toward her. She stared at his palm. Her expression was reminiscent of an individual confident selling their soul was a reckless choice but entering the deal anyway. “I don’t bite.” Her gaze felt like an impact against his. “You did in Hell.” He wrangled the grin under control. “Then I won’t bite.” “I don’t think it’s a good idea, Micah.” “Why?” A casual shrug when nothing about her body language suggested she felt relaxed. She crossed her arms beneath her breasts. “Nix says my idea of dancing is sex with clothes on. He couldn’t tolerate it and if he couldn’t….” She trailed off and gaped at him as if she’d just realized she’d been about to insult him. Micah grinned. “I haven’t lived as long as I have without executing restraint.” He stepped closer to her. “I’ve controlled myself with you more than any other.” Because she is my woman and deserves my respect. Madison allowed him to pull her arms free of their defensive fold. Holding her gaze, Micah coaxed her into his embrace…left hip to left hip, his leg thrusting between her knees, gliding upward and parting her thighs. She bit her bottom lip. Her breathing grew shallow. The heavy beat of the music thumped around them. His pulse throbbed faster. Hell’s delights, she felt fantastic against him. “Relax,” he said when she remained inflexible. A soft wind would break one of her bones. “I only want to dance with you.” Like when they’d been married, just a different manner of movement. This one more intimate than what they normally partook. Her focus locked on his jaw, and she sharply inhaled when he slid his palm down her back and settled on her hips. He executed the first moves and she followed. As if magnetized, they gyrated in perfect synchronicity. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How did you decide on your story plot? GRACEN: I don’t know that I actually ever “decide” on a plot. Nine times out of ten what I envision for the story at the start is much different than the way it ends. For example, when I started writing book one, Pandora’s Box, I somewhat knew how the three books would work out through the series. By the middle of book two, Hell’s Phoenix, lots of that initial plan altered. By the end of book 3, Genesis Queen, nothing was as I’d originally planned. For difficult parts in the storyline, I chat with my girlfriends and they help me work out issues. How did you choose your characters names and location for your story? GRACEN: The location is Alabama, which is where I’m from, and since I wanted a heroine I could connect with, that’s where I set the story. As for names, it varies. Phoenix—nicknamed Nix—just came to me and I liked it, so it stuck. Micah was picked for the meaning of his name—“who is like God”. Madison was named for a girl I knew who died of breast cancer at the age of 18. I’d nicknamed her “Madz”, so I also had Nix give Madison the nickname “Mads”. But it was my way honoring our friendship and—in a sense—immortalizing her. Do you have a favorite scene? Why? GRACEN: In Genesis Queen my favorite scene is when Micah and Madison are dancing and the conversation that follows. Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why? GRACEN: Yes. I identify with Madison because she’s a mother and Southern, just like me on both accounts. Madison Wescott’s life is Hell on earth. Her father, a Baptist Preacher, convinces her she’s morally corrupt when men notice her blooming beauty. She strives to be unnoticeable, but nothing satisfies her condemning parents. And sometimes fate has nothing to do with one’s potential. Temptation rears its head when Micah Dominus visits her father’s church on Christmas morning, but she is unprepared for her physical reaction to him. Frightened by her own emotions, she is grateful she’ll never see him again. But when he shows up again at a friend’s funeral, and at other times in her life, she’s swayed by his charisma. Micah becomes her white knight through the good and bad, but can they create the perfect life together? Or has she just located the beginning of the Road to Hell? Supernatural forces more powerful than fate can claim one’s destiny… Madison’s Life Lessons Excerpt: “You’re morally damned, Madison Grace Wescott!” Bruce Wescott screamed the outraged whisper into his daughter’s face. “It shames me to recognize you as my daughter.” Madison shrunk further into the corner of the church bench, wishing she could shrink out of sight. Maybe if she were out of Daddy’s sight, she’d be out of his mind too, she thought as she blinked back the stinging tears. A hurried peek around the church sanctuary confirmed no one else witnessed her setback. Unsure what she’d done to receive his censure this time, she offered a weak, “Yes, sir, I’m sorry, Daddy.” Not that an apology ever appeased him. “It’s not me you should be apologizing too, young lady, but the Lord,” he snapped drawing to his five-foot six stature. “If you don’t repent and alter your ways, God’ll see you burn in Hell.” “Yes, sir, I understand.” She hoped she sounded meek enough to suit his temper or she’d find herself on her knees after church service praying for her soul. Depending upon his mood, she could pray for hours without a restroom break or a knee break. And boy, oh, boy, could her knees suffer brutal agony in that position. It would be great if she knew what to repent so she could avoid the burn of Hell. She didn’t want to burn any more than he wanted her to burn. A typical complaint centered on her appearance. Her hair was too blonde, her eyes too blue, her boobs too big and her figure too lush for her too-tall frame. At fifteen she was already three and a half inches taller than him. All these complaints apparently forced men to sin against God by lusting after her. Not that she encouraged men to lust after her, mind you, but on the off chance that they did, it was still her fault in Daddy’s eyes. “Brother Wescott,” Becca Slayter said with her hand extended to her father, cheap red lipstick smeared outside the lip-line of her saggy mouth. The over-abundance of lipstick did not give her the appearance of fuller lips. Reminded of another one of her father’s complaints—her lips were too full and sensual—Madison pinched her lips together. “I wanted to extol how much your sermon last Sunday enriched my life this week. Why I was telling Cynthia Jones…” Madison stopped listening to Becca Slayter’s conversation with her dad because she didn’t much like ‘Sister’ Becca or her high-pitched annoying voice. And she was old, like thirty or thirty-five, and all Sister Becca ever did was brag about some new object she’d received. She peeked around the sanctuary and took special care not to openly snag the gaze of any man. Opening her worn leather-bound Holy Bible to the Gospel of Luke, she began to read and mentally pray God would forgive her for whatever sin she’d committed. If she were lucky, by the time Daddy finished his morning sermon he would forget all about her morally damned soul. She sure didn’t want to spend the afternoon praying on her knees. ****************************************************** "Pandora's Box" Book 1 in ROAD TO HELL series (MUST BE READ BEFORE READING HELL’S PHOENIX) BUY LINKS Decadent Publishing / Amazon / Barnes & Noble Print - Amazon / Print - Barnes & Noble Where does the road to Hell begin? What happens when your son turns homicidal overnight and your husband disappears on his way to work? Do you cower in fear or fight for your life? Madison Wescott fights against the odds. Distrustful of a God she doesn’t believe in, she finds herself face-to-face with a world she didn’t know existed and discovers her own soul is darkened with demonic connections. With good intentions? Or by demonic design? Phoenix Birmingham bursts into Madison’s life in a whirlwind of sarcasm and sexual appeal. A hero for the masses—and for her jaded heart—but few will ever know the sacrifices he has made or the sacrifices to come. Discovering her entire life has been influenced by multifaceted paranormal beings, Madison is determined to defeat the apocalyptic blueprint fate has decreed, but only one man dares to challenge the supernatural forces manipulating them. Even with Phoenix’s aid, can destiny be denied? Or will demonic design prevail while they pay the crucial price with their souls? In a small, sleepy Alabama town the battle for mankind’s liberty has begun... Pandora’s Box Excerpt: “May I?” He held up the medical supplies. She nodded and watched as he doused gauze with antiseptic. “Dr. Nix at your service,” he said with a grin, two adorable dimples charming her where words failed. Madison rolled her eyes, and tipped her head to the side to give him better access. He brushed her hair off her neck, back behind her shoulder. Such a simple gesture, yet it felt terribly personal. The air grew thick and sticky with her awareness of him. She shifted in her seat and crossed her legs. Madison stared into his eyes. Green, she thought, his eyes were green, gorgeous and intense, with ridiculously long eyelashes women would fantasize about. If they didn’t, they should. A flicker of compassion, concern, and something else she couldn’t identify flashed in his eyes. “Ready?” he asked. The husky tenor of his voice forced her gaze to shift to his mouth. Nice, sexy lips, designed for kissing. She gave a mental shake but couldn’t resist wondering how his mouth would feel on hers. “Madison?” Humor deepened his voice, a touch of a smile tilted the edges of the lips she’d been fantasizing about, and she realized she still stared at them. “You ready?” he asked again, and her eyes widened in embarrassment over her foolish stupor. She swallowed hard. “Yeah.” She whispered past the lump in her throat and forced her vision to lock on the wall over his shoulder. Good God, what was wrong with her? Her pulse throbbed like crazy, and she felt woozy. Loss of blood! Must be why she reacted that way. No other explanation made sense. Even though the antiseptic stung like hell, the gentle touch coming from such a gruff man surprised her. “It’s not bad,” he said, dabbing the blood away. “Just a nick.” Well, she could nix the blood loss theory. Exhaustion and stress were the only other excuses she could come up with. “I’ve suffered worse.” Her voice sounded off, kind of hoarse. She tried to clear her throat delicately, but he must have noticed her unease, because his perceptive eyes met hers. Again, she thought she caught the edge of concern reflected in their green depths. “This isn’t the first time he’s attacked you?” “No. It’s the first time he’s tried to seriously kill me, though.” She sighed as she closed her eyes, ready to give up fighting, the sudden tears threatening to fall. Okay, woozy and acting strange because of strain…not because of him. Seriously, as far as first impressions went, she wasn’t impressed. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Hell's Phoenix" Book 2 in ROAD TO HELL series BUY LINKS Decadent Publishing / Amazon / Barnes & Noble Print – Coming Soon Hell’s become more than just a playground for the wicked… Going to Hell was supposed to save Madison, but knowing she’s dead because of his failure leaves Nix with only one thing to live for. Revenge. With Micah’s help he learns to use his Messianic power. Anything for Mads has become his mantra, even if it means killing innocents to gather the power he needs to succeed. A tsunami he unleashes on a Gulf Coast city is stopped with magical interference, and Nix is more than surprised to feel Madison in the opposing magic. Can he and Micah set a trap to lure her out? Pandora’s Box…once you open it, there’s no turning back! Madison has done the unthinkable, opened Pandora’s Box to save Nix from Hell. And failed. She’s willing to risk her own life to rescue Nix, but she worries about the welfare of her accomplice in the mission and leaving her son behind. Following up on a lead, she’s ambushed by Nix and Micah. Shocked and hurt to discover Nix has become a willing participant of Hell, she’s more certain than ever she won’t escape the demonic fate her husband outlined for her. While in Hell, she discovers denying the emergence of her succubus is futile, which means getting Nix out of Hell after embracing her inner demon just became a very real dilemma… Hell’s Phoenix Excerpt: “You’ll heal her promptly,” Micah growled, shifting back into his human persona, as he offered his legs as a pillow for her head. She’d have pushed him away if she could’ve managed to contort her body to that angle. Madison gaped at the blood darkening her jeans and spreading down her thigh. “That hurts way worse than I thought being shot would.” “I need to get your pants off, Mads, to heal you.” Nix’s fingers went to the snap of her jeans. She knocked his hands away. “You’ll heal the others first.” “He shot the main artery in your thigh, Madison. You’ll bleed out before he finishes with them.” Micah compressed his lips together and spoke as if he ground his teeth together. “I’ve lost you twice. I will not lose you again.” “Death would at least grant me freedom from you!” Micah’s mouth flattened in displeasure. “Phoenix, I would ask you to do as she requests.” “Goddamnit, Mads, I swear I’ll heal them immediately after I take care of you.” Madison glared at Nix. “E kawoja ciok tauqelv.” I refuse your healing. Nix spewed curses in Xapil. “Impressive, you’ve learned how to curse in demon.” Nix scowled. “Stubborn.” Madison clenched her teeth in silent mutiny. Nix cupped the back of her head, tugged slightly and kissed her hard on the lips. Excitement zinged through her system. Her attraction to him always presented itself at the most inappropriate moments. “I find that stubborn trait sexy, baby.” “Flattery gets you nowhere, Nix.” She winced at the tug against her wounded flesh as he rested her against Micah’s thighs. “What does?” Nix jerked the hem of one pant leg up and tugged the blade strapped to her ankle out of its harness. “Good deeds.” He brandished the knife he’d given her for her thirtieth birthday and grinned. “Does healing them count?” “No.” Nix rolled to his feet and leveled her with his stare. “You’re a hard woman to please.” “Cease the flirtations with my wife.” Micah’s grip on her shoulders intensified. “Heal those bottom-feeders, and then heal her.” *************************************************************** Genesis Queen" Book 3 in ROAD TO HELL series Buy Links: Amazon / Decadent / Smashwords Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn. She describes herself as a hopeless daydreamer masquerading as a “normal” person in Southern society. When not writing, she’s a full-time basketball/football/guitar mom for her two sons and a devoted wife to her real-life hero-husband. She’s addicted to writing, paranormal romance novels and movies, Alabama football and coffee…addictions are not necessarily in order of priority. She is convinced coffee is nectar from the gods and blending coffee and writing generates the perfect creative merger. Many of her stories are spawned from these coffee highs. Well they are more like young adults. Two of them live with me full time and the other two only come to visit. One of my biggest pet peeves is when the children load the dishwasher. I've taught them how to do it. I've showed them how to get it done in a way that really allows the dishes to get clean! Yet today I found glasses laying sideways on top of other dishes. Also the whole dishwasher was just too full! Someone should have run it before now, yet I'm the only one who knows how to put the pod in and push the start button. It goes without saying, I'm the one who also knows how to empty it. I'm sure this is a lost cause until the children go live on their own. Speaking of that, is there anyone who would like to take a couple of children into their own homes? They are free- but don't expect them to do much!
Share your pet peeves with us! It's your chance to complain about something and get it off your chest. After all, we all have things that drive us nuts! Do you love a good shifter tale? Wolves are a popular figure in paranormal romance and Amy Lee Burgess has written a wonderful series- Wolf Within. Don't forget to check out all her books in this series! Guest Post: My series of shifter novels, The Wolf Within, has developed quite the cast of characters over the past four books and many of the recurring characters’ names have a story behind them. I’d like to share a few with you. Constance Newcastle – She’s my protagonist. Every book is told from her first person point of view, so her name would be one I’d hear, write and think over and over again. I knew I was going to write a novel for NaNoWriMo in 2010 and I knew it wouldn’t be about vampires (because at the time I’d just spent two years writing about vampires), but I didn’t know much else. Halloween night I went to bed thinking I have to come up with a name for my protagonist. As I dozed in and out of a light sleep, I saw a shadowy outline of the woman who would become the focus of my novel. She would be blonde and have blue eyes. She would be from New England. She would be a wolf shifter or maybe a werewolf. Then this name floated into my head – Stanzie. At first I rejected it because I’m not a big fan of made up names for characters in novels unless they are science fiction and my novel would not be set in a sci fi scenario. What if it was a nickname? Short for something? I mused. Then I fell asleep. I woke up on the morning of November 1st and the first thing I thought was – I have to start my novel and my protagonist’s name is Stanzie. It wasn’t quite time to get up yet and I am notoriously lazy when it comes to rolling out of bed in the morning, so I snuggled under the covers and dreamily contemplated possible real names for Stanizie. First up was Constanza and I rejected it after a moment because it sounded too Italian and I wanted Stanzie to be a blonde from New England and it just didn’t fit. But Constance did fit. A perfect New England name. Trouble was, I’ve never really liked the name Constance. I’d never contemplated using it before, especially for a main character, but it did fit and I was going to use Stanzie. So she became Constance. By now it was past time for me to get up and so I dragged myself out of bed and to the computer where at 5:32 I wrote the opening lines of a novel that would become Beneath the Skin – When I jerked awake, a smothered scream on my lips, the digital clock on the nightstand read 5:32 in the morning. At one point in the first or second chapter I realized I had to come up with a last name for her and a name popped into my head – Newcastle. I liked it, so I ran with it. It wasn’t until weeks later on my way to the grocery store one night that I looked up from the red light and saw I was on the intersection of Westpark and…Newcastle. Funny how the mind works sometimes, huh? Liam Murphy: Every romance has to have a hero, right? I already knew my hero would look like Stuart Townsend. (I base all my male characters on actors or musicians that I find wildly attractive!) I decided to make him Irish since Stuart Townsend is Irish. Plus, who can resist a hot Irish wolf shifter, right? Now we circle back to my vampire novels. For the two years prior to that fateful November in 2010, I’d been writing a series of vampire novels that I published in installments on my blog. Only a handful of people had access to these vampires and one of them, one of my staunchest supporters and enthusiastic readers was named Kim Murphy. What better way to express my gratitude for all she’d done for me than name one of my characters after her? So Murphy found his name. I have Stanzie call him Murphy most of the time and at first that was because I didn’t have a first name for him. My favorite Irish first name is Liam, but I had a vampire character in my other novels named Liam. He had a small part and was in no way significant to the story, but I still hesitated because I’d used the name already and I hate to reuse names. But everyone in Beneath the Skin couldn’t go around calling this poor guy Murphy all the time, so I used Liam as a placeholder thinking I would come back at some point with a better name. I never did get around to it. Since Stanzie tells the stories, at least 80% of the time he’s referred to as “Murphy” and every time I write “Liam” it still jolts me a little. To me, he’s Murphy. Oh, and every chance I get I remind Kim that I named Murphy for her. It’s a running joke between us now. She lives in Chicago and I’m in Houston, so we communicate mainly through Facebook and email. At least once a week I send her a message that says simply: I named Murphy for YOOOOOOUUUUU! Jason Allerton: Jason is the powerful Councilor that Stanzie and Murphy work for. He brought them together and he sends them out on their adventures investigating issues in the various packs around the world. He’s a very powerful, commanding person, but a compassionate one. He’s always there to pick up the pieces and the calm one in the midst of chaos. From the start of Beneath the Skin, his last name was Allerton. I don’t know where I came up with that except that I thought it sounded rather authoritative. His original first name was something else - Stephen perhaps? I’ve forgotten at this point, but I changed it about a third of the way through the novel. Entering NaNoWriMo that year was not my idea. A writer friend challenged me and a group of other writers to go for it. Four or five of us did. One of them was my friend, Jaye – short for Jason. He was incredibly enthusiastic about this challenge and embarked upon an epic novel about magic and mayhem and named all his characters after those of us who’d answered the NaNoWriMo challenge. Well, I could not let this gesture of solidarity go unanswered, so I immediately changed Allerton’s first name to Jason in Jaye’s honor. Paranormal romances are not really Jaye’s bag, but he gamely read at least the first novel and told me he was pleased with his namesake. Several other characters have names that are strikingly similar, if not exactly matching, some of my friends’. I’m having a lot of fun doing that. A little inside secret that we can share. However, most of the names I use are not chosen with such deliberation and care. Most just appear in my head as I’m writing about the character and I go with it. I can only think of two or three characters where I had to either change their names midway through or had to think more than a few seconds about what they would be. I love naming things. Maybe that’s why there are so many names crowded into my skull just waiting for a chance to leap out onto the page. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Inside Out by Amy Lee Burgess Amazon Barnes & Noble Lyrical Press There's no place like home...or is there? When Stanzie is asked to investigate her birth pack- Mayflower--she isn't prepared for what she finds. No one respects the Alphas and the newest adult member of the pack is being encouraged to leave. Why? To make matters worse, the men are dangerously intent on mating and shifting with her. How far will the pack she thought she knew go to get what they want? Without her bond-mate, Liam, Stanzie must face this alone and, barely ahead of threat of violence, must solve the mysteries, and fast. WARNING: Vulgar language, sexual situations, group sex, violence A Lyrical Press Paranormal Romance EXCERPT: Alan looked at me and panic flooded his silver blue eyes. “Stanzie.” My name was a horrified plea. I could see the ghost of a wolf’s muzzle beneath his mouth. He held out a hand and recoiled when he saw the dark fur on his palm. “Take off your clothes, Alan,” I urged, but he stood there, transfixed. I hastily unbuttoned his plaid shirt and pushed it off his shoulders. “Help me,” I cried as I tugged at his sleeve. “I don’t know what’s happening to me,” he whispered. His body gave a bone crunching shudder and he stared at Faith and Scott’s wolves, terror etched across his face. The wolves waited together, shoulder to shoulder. It was a damn good thing I hadn’t shifted myself. Poor Alan was clueless. I fumbled with the button on his fly and then the zipper. His throat rippled and he threw back his head and howled. The noise nearly scared the shit out of me, but I somehow managed to get his zipper down and then I pushed him onto his ass so I could pull his jeans off. He was no help at all, caught in the throes of the first emergence of his wolf. His body morphed in and out of focus. It was like trying to undress someone by strobe light and I had to shut my eyes so I wouldn’t lose my concentration. Alan whimpered and whined. Shifting was painful sometimes--especially when we fought it and he was. He didn’t know how to relax into the chaos and let it flow. He still struggled for control, for a way to reason out the process, and that was impossible. Shifting did not make sense. It just happened. “Let go. Alan, just go with it,” I coached in a quiet voice as I sat as near as I could to him. He writhed on the pine needles and screamed as his bones shifted beneath his skin. “It hurts less if you just let go.” “Stanzie!” My name turned into an anguished howl and just when I had begun to get scared, it happened. Alan blinked out of this plane and when he blinked back in, he was shifted. His wolf was gorgeous. Dusky black with ice-blue eyes. A touch of gray at the tips of each paw. Big too. Bigger than Scott’s gray wolf. He rolled to his feet and sprawled onto his face when he tried to walk. Two legs to four was a bitch for some people. It had never fazed me, but Grey told me it had taken him half an hour to figure out how the hell to walk the first time he’d shifted. I grinned to remember the story and reached out to pat Alan’s wolf on the head. He whined at me. “Get up and walk. Four legs are fun,” I told him. I was on my hands and knees now, so we could look eye to eye. If he got up, that is. Faith’s wolf pranced over and nudged him with her dainty muzzle. He whined again and she gave a coughing bark. In wolf speak she told him to get off his ass. Scott’s wolf approached me and stared at me so hard I knew he tried to tell me something, but I couldn’t figure out what. Then it hit me. Duh. I was still in human form. I stood up so I could strip off my jeans and t-shirt. Scott’s wolf waited impatiently. Alan’s wolf had gained his wobbly feet but seemed stuck in one position. When Faith’s wolf nudged his back end with her nose, he promptly fell over again and I snickered. Alan’s wolf gave me a reproachful look and I patted his head in apology. Scott’s wolf moved behind me and bumped the back of my knees so hard I fell over. Alan’s wolf wheezed with lupine laughter. “At least I can walk on all fours,” I muttered. Naked, I crawled away a few feet to give myself space for shifting. Only nothing happened. *************************************************************************** Author Bio: Amy Lee Burgess Website Goodreads Amy Lee Burgess wrote her first ghost story at age ten. Weathering Rock by Mae Clair Amazon Barnes & Noble Lyrical Press Kobo Books Drawn together across centuries, will their love be strong enough to defeat an ancient curse? Colonel Caleb DeCardian was fighting America’s Civil War on the side of the Union when a freak shower of ball lightning transported him to the present, along with rival and former friend, Seth Reilly. Adapting to the 21st century is hard enough for the colonel, but he also has to find Seth, who cursed him to life as a werewolf. The last thing on Caleb’s mind is romance. Then fetching Arianna Hart nearly runs him down with her car. He can’t deny his attraction to the outspoken schoolteacher, but knows he should forget her. Arianna finds Caleb bewildering, yet intriguing: courtly manners, smoldering sensuality and eyes that glow silver at night? When she sees Civil War photographs featuring a Union officer who looks exactly like Caleb, she begins to understand the man she is falling in love with harbors multiple secrets--some of which threaten the possibility of their happiness. Finding a decent guy who'll commit is hard enough. How can she expect Caleb to forsake his own century to be with her? Excerpt: “Stop it!” Arianna shook off Wyn’s grip, pivoting to face him. “Are you crazy?” Before he could answer, something slammed against the door. Caleb screamed. The sound knifed through her like the violent jolt of an electrical wire. “Caleb!” She launched herself at the door, panicked and terrified by the thought of the man she loved in horrific pain. “Don’t!” Wyn stiff-armed her aside and grabbed the knob, forcibly holding it in place. “Get a chair. Something, anything! We’ve got to keep him locked inside.” “What are you talking about?” “Arianna, get a fricking chair. Now!” There was another crash, and then a bang as something heaved against the door, making it shudder from top to bottom. Arianna heard a snarl that turned her blood to ice. The door rattled in its frame, weakening as something battered against it. Something inhuman locked in the room with Caleb. A cold fist clamped over her stomach. “Wyn, what’s going on?” “Chair!” he spat. “Get me a damn chair.” The raw urgency of his voice plowed through her confusion. She darted into the dining room, snagged a chair, and dragged it into the hallway. The thing in the parlor was still hammering away, heaving itself against the door in an attempt to burst through. Wyn’s face was white with strain as he struggled to hold the door shut with both hands. He rammed the top of the chair beneath the knob, wedging it securely into place. A blood-thirsty howl exploded from the other side, kicking Arianna’s heartbeat into overdrive. “My God, Wyn, what’s going on?” She lurched for the door. “Don’t. You don’t know what you’re doing.” Wyn caught her around the waist and swung her up against the wall. She tried to squirm free. “I know Caleb’s trapped in there. We have to help him! There’s something in the room. Can’t you hear it?” He held her wrists, pinning her arms to the wall. “Listen to me!” His eyes were wild, his face inches from hers. With a single frenetic skip of her heart, she realized he was as terrified as she was. “There’s nothing in the room. Only Caleb. Do you hear me, Arianna? It’s Caleb.” “No!” She shook her head, unwilling to believe what he told her, but another ear-splitting snarl fanned her fear higher. Nothing made sense. Not the stark fear in Wyn’s eyes, the sweat-slickened grip of his palms crushing her wrists or the chillingly inhuman sounds coming from the parlor. The man she loved could never sound so guttural or barbarous. “I don’t care!” She ripped free of his hold. “I don’t care if he’s by himself or in there with something else. You have to help him!” She lunged for the door, but Wyn grappled her around the waist, holding fast. They were still struggling when the sound of shattering glass rang through the narrow center hall of Weathering Rock. Holidays were a financially tough time for a family of seven. Mom and Dad sacrificed a lot to give us a wonderful Christmas each year. I loved to make homemade gifts for my family. They were only a token of my love for them, but my sisters and parents made me feel as if my gift was more precious than gold. Growing up as the oldest of five girls, I figured out the truth about Santa Claus before anyone else. Yet it was up to me to keep the fantasy going for my sisters. I wanted them to have those perfect memories of childhood and the holidays. And no matter how many times we fought, they were my sisters-my family- and their happiness mattered to me. A few weeks before Christmas, I would type up a letter from Santa and put it in the mailbox on a Sunday. Then I would ask one of my sisters, usually Stacey to go to the mailbox for something where she'd find the letter. The detailed letter from Santa helped convince my sisters that he was watching over us. It always made me smile when Stacey or Sherri would read the letter and remark about all the things Santa knew. On Christmas morning, I could hardly sleep. I'd wake up early and head downstairs to check on the presents and the tree. I wanted everything to be perfect. Sneaking back up to my room, I would wait until everyone woke up and then when we were sitting in front of the tree, I'd mention that I'd seen or heard Santa, just to make sure my sisters continued to believe. My sisters believed far longer than most of our friends. They still talk about their memories of the holidays when we get together. Being an older sister had its challenges but certainly had its rewards! I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Don't forget that my own story will be re-released in January with Secret Cravings Publishing. I'm so excited to share with you one of my favorite new authors, Sasha Summers. Her Red Carpet Series books leave you breathless and wishing for your own sexy hunk! Her latest release: Hollywood Holiday came out on Dec. 7th and I know you will love the story of Gunner and Jenny. (MK) Hello Sasha and thank you for visiting today. If you could go back in time to when you were seven years old, what wisdom or advice would you pass on to yourself? (SS)Keep smiling, be positive and hopeful, no matter what. (MK) For what are you grateful? (SS) My kids. They keep me sane and happy. But 2012 has given me some new things to be thankful for! One of them is InkSpell Publishing!!! I love that my stories get such love from my publisher – it’s humbling and inspiring all at once. (MK) If a zombie virus took over the world, how many days do you think you could last before you were infected? And what would you do to postpone the inevitable? (SS) According to the FB quiz, I’d be a survivor – I’m ‘in the know’ on all thing zombies and post-apocalyptic stuff (I’ve written 2 YA virus/zombie books after all). I’d have no problem making the sacrifices necessary to keep my kids safe – watch out world. :) (MK) What television sitcom is most like your family? Why? (SS)Hmm… Well, a mix of The Middle and My Name is Earl (LOL!) and a dash of Modern Family… Yes, holiday’s are interesting!!! (MK)What’s your favorite thing to do to relax? (SS)READ! Or draw/paint… (MK) Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author? (SS)No, I used to want to be a veterinarian because I didn’t think I could be an author – I mean, it seemed so exclusive and abstract. (MK)What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult? (SS)Well, I devoured the Barbara Cartland library in my house (I couldn’t wait for my first kiss!), Rosamunde Pilcher, George Orwell and Margaret Atwood (other end of the spectrum, right?) (MK) Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing? (SS)Music and my computer. J Sometimes I like to print up pictures of my character inspiration too. (MK) Do you have a common theme or item that appears in each of your books? (SS) Besides love :) - probably family – like, big, loud, character-laden extended family. Maybe it’s my Italian roots? (MK)What have you learned the most from being in the writing business? (SS)Having touch skin is important, but so is recognizing and absorbing constructive criticism. I think every writer would love to think that each and every book they write is perfect… then reality hits. :) Instead of giving up on a project because it was shredded, I try to fix the things most (majority rules in my book) mentioned and make it work. Here's an Excerpt from Hollywood Holiday: “I’m fine,” I said, wanting to mean it. The plane bounced again, then dropped before leveling out once more. “So is Gunner a Marine nickname or something?” I asked. My throat felt tight and dry. “I mean, you’re a Marine, right?” “Was.” I glanced at him. “Was? It’s not one of those once a Marine, always—” The plane dropped again, and my stomach dropped with it. “Oh, God,” I groaned. “Medical discharge,” he said. “I’m not much use anymore.” From where I was sitting he was about as perfect a male specimen as I’d ever seen. There was the slightest hint of frustration, or sadness, in his tone, but the plane began to shake and jostle and I knew I was going to have a panic attack. “Jenny.” He folded up the arm rest between us. “Hey, look at me. You’re okay. It’s just like a roller coaster ride.” “I throw up on roller coasters.” He laughed. “Okay, then don’t think about roller coasters. Bad idea.” I nodded, covering my face with my hands. The ping sounded again. “This is your captain speaking. Looks like we’re in for a rocky trip. We’re flying into a storm system that…” But I didn’t hear anything after the rocky trip comment. “Rockier than this?” I asked Gunner, whispering. He shrugged. “I know you’re fine and everything, but…” He paused, holding his hand out. I stared at his hand, willing myself not to grab it. But the plane dropped a good fifteen feet and I didn’t care. I grabbed his hand. He pulled me against him this time, wrapping his arm around me and holding me close. (MK) I love Gunner. He's my perfect guy! But let's find out more about you! How did you decide on your story plot? (SS)I’d written a big scene with Jen in one of the very first drafts of Hollywood Ever After. The scene ended up being cut but Jen stayed with me. I knew I wanted more Hollywood stories, and luckily InkSpell did too, so I dove in and gave her her very own special love story. (MK) How did you choose your characters names and location for your story? (SS) Well, most of the characters were mentioned or established in Hollywood Ever After, which made writing Hollywood Holiday’s world that much easier for me. (MK)Do you have a favorite scene? Why? (SS)Definitely! I love the scene where Jen and Gunner are working through some fight choreography for her movie. It’s super hot and sexy and *wonderful* (MK) Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why? (SS)I tend to find something in my heroine’s that click with me. With Claire, it was finding herself. With Jen, it was being brave, liking herself, and holding her head up after some not so great stuff happened to her. (MK)Let our readers know how they can get a hold of you… Website Twitter Facebook Goodreads Pinterest Is there anything else that you want to share… feel free!! (SS) In a world full of wonderful books, thank you for picking mine! I sincerely hope you enjoy it/them and encourage you to contact me and let me know what you thought. Happy reading! If you love vampire stories, you are going to love Deborah Palumbo's series. Her vampire isn't the old Dracula wanna-be. He's a hot new type of vampire. But I'll let her tell you about it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First I want to say I am very happy to be here today with you. I'd like to tell everyone that I am a self pubbed author, exclusively Amazon, enrolled in KDP select which means Amazon Prime Members can borrow my books for FREE! Otherwise, they are only $2.99 for ebook and $7.95 paperback. I write Paranormal, mystery and historical romance. It was a long journey to get here; something I've always wanted to do since I was a little girl, but didn't until fate stepped in, and during a long period of illness and confinement I wrote books. Now I have 9 published and many more are sitting in files ready to be dusted off! I wrote a screenplay with acclaimed actor/writer Jordan Rhodes which is my claim to fame. LOL. I loved the experience of screen writing especially with Jordan, but my true and first love is writing novels. Today, I thought I'd focus on my paranormal series in honor of my new release, book 3 in the series, The Banished One. First though, I think it's best to first write a little blurb about book 1 in the series, The Undeparted for those of you aren't familiar with the series, and then tell you about The Banished One. So here it goes…. Handsome Quentin Castle, the father of all vampires is a multi-millionaire, not some cape wearing, blood-dripping-from-the-mouth vampire, although he does live in a gothic castle and he loves to bite. In fact, he's been around millennia and is completely evil and lustful, although since meeting the beautiful mortal Cassandra, he's in a spiritual transition. He's desperate to win Cassandra's heart, but doesn't want her love and devotion because he did the "mesmerizing vampire thing," so he tries to woo the reluctant Cassandra the mortal way first. As to what he actually ends up doing…well, hopefully your readers will read the novel and its sequel THE ASCENT OF THE UNDEPARTED to find out...I CAN SAY NO MORE! Now onto the Banished One, book 3. THE BANISHED ONE : Love, murder, sex and VAMPIRES. (for 18+) A sleepy little town has a secret: there's a serial killer vampire on the loose. The lustful and evil Lucius is still wreaking havoc on the sleepy town in Tower City, and since he's supernatural he can't be captured by normal police procedure. A frustrated Lieutenant Welby refuses to believe that the one responsible for those dead bodies in his town is a vampire; that defies logic. There's got to be another explanation for those fang marks in the victims' throats. Welby remains a staunch disbeliever in vampires until a series of preternatural events and the coroner's scientific evidence causes him to change his mind. Welby then follows the old town rumors right to Quentin, the father of all vampires and his gothic castle to enlist Quentin's supernatural aid in capturing Lucius. Will Quentin, the only one who can stop Lucius' vampire tirades, help the Lieutenant or make him one of The Undeparted? Will Quentin battle Lucius and send Lucius to the bowels of hell for eternity, finally ensuring that Cassandra is safe from her old beau? Will the old coal mining town be safe at last? I hope this tidbit entices anyone who loves vampires and the paranormal and mystery and romance, to give the series a read! Thanks so much for having me! Business and Pleasure by Emily Wood Can mixing business and pleasure ever result in a happy ending? When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene. A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service. Even if their relationship is strong enough to survive her insecurities, what will happen when somebody from her past shows up and threatens to reveal her deepest, darkest secret? Excerpt: Lucy looked around nervously. "What's wrong?" she asked. "I…don't know," Mia admitted. Perhaps she was just being paranoid. "Mia." She heard a familiar drawl coming from the shadows. Her heart raced in anticipation as she turned to see the speaker. He walked out of the shadows and toward them like a jaguar stalking his prey, but Mia didn't feel intimidated, only excited by his presence. "You shouldn't go sneaking around in the darkness. You could give a girl a fright." Mia laughed. "I could leave, if that would please you," he purred. She loved the way he emphasized please. He gave no indication that he was going to leave. Mia was glad. "Er, maybe I'll just go wait around the corner," Lucy said awkwardly. Mia nodded to acknowledge her, feeling a little guilty, because she had actually forgotten Lucy was still there. "So, what are you doing here?" Mia tried to seem nonchalant, despite the fact that her body was having some kind of chemical reaction to his presence. As if from nowhere, the handsome man produced the bottle of champagne he had purchased earlier that night. "I do believe we have plans to share this." He took a step closer to her. "Oh. I would, it's just we aren't supposed to socialize with the clients outside of the club," Mia said teasingly, although it was technically true. "Tell me, Mia, do you always do what you're supposed to do?" It seemed as though he had expected her reaction. "No, I guess not." "I've been watching you, Mia." "I've noticed." She took a step in his direction and looked challengingly into his dark eyes. "So, do you like what you see?" They were close enough to touch, and Mia's every nerve was tingling, hoping to feel his fingers on her skin. He swayed forward and, for a moment, she thought he was going to kiss her, but he leaned toward her ear instead. "I have a business proposition for you," he breathed, sending a shiver through her body before he pulled away from her. It took Mia a moment to compose herself, and his eyes sparkled with amusement, no doubt he was enjoying her confusion. "Business…a business proposition?" Mia attempted to sound as casual as she possibly could. "I'm returning to my home in Tuscany tomorrow," he announced. Mia felt her heart sink, but was determined not to let it show. "Oh, it must be beautiful in Italy this time of year. But what does that have to do with me?" "I was hoping you would accompany me." I love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things…it's all great inspiration for my books! Site The Christmas Dare by Joan Chandler ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BLURB: Self-professed Christmas addict Gia Dixon, and by-the-book Ethan Castle have been best friends all their lives. When tragedy strikes Ethan’s family, Gia’s the rock he depends on to pull him through the darkest days. Then, a shared, long-forgotten memory leads to an unexpected yet tender kiss. Can a simple Christmas dare help them find true love? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt: She made a face at him as she prepared to get out of the car, and then flipped around to her knees to reach between the seats to gather up her packages. As she pulled everything forward through the gap, she leaned over to kiss his cheek. He caught her by surprise when he turned to face her, causing their lips to meet. Her eyes widened, while his turned dark. “Gia,” he said, the name coming out of his mouth in a low rasp. She closed her eyes but didn’t move. She couldn’t speak. Then she sensed when he was about to kiss her again. She tilted her face up to receive it, her lips parting to let him know she wasn’t opposed. Ethan put his hands on either side of her head, his long fingers wrapping around to bury themselves in her thick, blonde hair. “Gia,” he whispered again as he closed his mouth over hers and slipped his tongue inside. She twirled hers around it, gently sucking. They were lost in the moment, oblivious to whether anyone else was around or not. They forgot where they were. They even forgot who they were. And in their place, these two sensual, passionate creatures tangled their arms around each other and kissed as if their lives depended on it. Finally, Ethan sighed and pulled back a little. “Tell me that this is okay with you. Please say that it is.” Gia had trouble finding her voice, so instead she pulled his mouth to hers again and greedily kissed him. When it ended, she asked breathily, “Does that answer your question?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AUTHOR Bio and Links: Joan Chandler is a Florida native who has lived in the Deep South all of her life. You can do it by yourself, but it’s usually not as fun. I’d planned to discuss the holiday setting in Trouble Won’t Wait, but then I thought about the name of this blog, and figured Sexy Between the Covers merits a little more fun. So. Let’s talk about sex, baby! Or at least, sex in romance novels. Or characters suffering from a lack thereof. Romantic tension is key in any romance novel, and so is sexual tension. As we all know, both tend to escalate, the longer two lovers are kept apart. Some couples in romance novels are able to “hook up” as soon as they know they’re right for one another, while others…must suffer. Which, in turn, hopefully makes the reader suffer as well (insert Evil Author Laugh). I’ll confess, I do love a story where the poor couple is about to explode/boil over/seek medical help because they’re so sexually frustrated. It makes their eventual “coming together” that much hotter. In Trouble Won’t Wait, Mandy’s impending divorce is not yet public knowledge, and she’s determined to remain celibate until it is. She believes making love with the new guy she’s falling for would make her just as “bad” as her adulterous husband. And though she and Adam do a good job of avoiding/fighting temptation, one tough night Mandy slips a little. Desperate to control something after a close call with personal danger (trying to avoid spoilers here!), she tempts Adam into one-sided phone sex. Listening to him turns her into a turned-on hormonal mess, but knowing she can please him reassures her when she needs it most. I finished writing the scene, probably as pleased with the final results as Mandy was. But wait. People were going to read this scene (hopefully!). My face got very hot. I hadn’t come across phone sex in anything I’d read at the time (even now, after editing 60 novels for other people, only 3 of them have phone sex scenes--and they’re hard core erotic romances). Was phone sex over the top? My critique partners and beta readers didn’t think so. They said the scene is a believable, non-premeditated reaction for Mandy, given her situation. So I kept it. And now I try not to think about it when a friend or family member (Hi Mom!) tells me she’s reading my book. And you? (No, I’m not asking about your sex life! Geez, my mom might be reading this.) Have you read other books where the characters have phone sex? Thumbs up, or thumbs down? Autumn Piper Got romance? Autumnpiper.com Twitter: @AutumnPiperAuth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trouble Won’t Wait: http://amzn.to/UvfJBb Good things may come to those who wait, but trouble waits for no one… Cheating is a dealbreaker...or so Mandy’s always thought. But when she catches her husband getting some “strange,” she realizes how hard it is to cut and run, or even file papers. She agrees to a month of counseling, which will give her time to grieve the loss of her marriage before she has to tell the world—and the kids. Then she meets Adam, who gives her a hunky--if mysterious--shoulder to cry on, and that thirty-day waiting period seems like an eternity. Adam has no problem confessing that he’s watched Mandy from his window for months as she runs by his house. If he told her why, though, she’d freak out for sure. He knows they’ve got a future together, if he can think of a way to explain his past. And he’s sure the rat-bastard who cheated on her is putting the moves on her again, but he won’t be the revenge guy. The month-long cooling off period she agreed to is lasting forever, and might just be indefinite, if trouble keeps getting in their way. WARNING: Eccentric old lady pushing salt-of-the-earth advice, bossy big brother, kooky counselor, super-secretive hunk, and perfect justice served amidst adult situations and language. EXCERPT: I snap the phone shut. Adam pats my back. I’m feeling a little proud, and a lot sick. A wicked combination of nerves, exhaustion and barely eating has me shaking, my heart racing, legs suddenly weak. “Hey, you okay?” Adam’s voice is soft, worried. I can only nod. If I speak I’ll be sick all over my shoes. After a minute or so, I’m not lightheaded anymore, and stand. God, how embarrassing, to go all weak in front of him! “You’re pale.” He strokes my cheek with his fingertips. I must look awful, but he seems concerned, not disgusted. “You’re freezing. Come on.” He leads me toward his house. Halfway to his back gate, it comes to me: I cannot go in there, not in this mood. “Adam. Hold on.” He stops and faces me. I press my eyes with the heels of my hands. “Do you want to be my revenge?” His laugh is warm, lusty. “Would there be opportunity for advancement? A possibility for a permanent position?” “Probably not at this point. Revenge would be a temp position only.” “Then, no. I’ll keep arms’ reach away from you, Scout’s honor.” Arms’ reach, rather than arms’ length… Freudian slip? I’m not sure anymore. “I have no intention of ever sleeping with him again, and I want a divorce.” That should be clear enough. His bushy brows shoot up. I’ve piqued the wanta-be therapist’s interest. “Why do you feel that way?” God, could it be more simple? “He had sex with a woman we know, while I was in the same house! Anybody, even one of the kids, could have walked in on it! It makes me sick to think of him touching me.” “Do you still love him?” Jesus, did Mike put him up to asking that? “It doesn’t matter. I can’t forgive him for what he did. I’ll never forget what I saw, it comes to me at all hours of the day and night.” “So you do still love him, but you’re angry, possibly jealous of his having another partner without your consent.” Without my consent. This guy probably advocates swapping and threesomes, all the fun and games, as long as both spouses consent. I snap my gawping mouth shut. Good ole Baldwin looks me straight in the eye. “What if you were to have an encounter with an outside partner, to even the score?” Is it the smoke from the candles or his suggestion making me choke? “You mean like a revenge affair?” Stampeding thoughts of Adam shred my calm like buffalo through prairie turf. I feel flushed. * * * * As I clomp past Adam’s back fence, a very wet snowball clobbers the back of my head. I react in time to see a second tightly-packed missile heading at my chest, and move aside without a moment to spare. Adam thinks he has an advantage hiding behind his fence, but he doesn’t expect me to charge straight for him and run through the gate so he can face me like a man. In his yard, we wage silent war for several minutes. The only audible evidence of the battle is the splatting of snowballs exploding on impact, and an occasional grunt as we bend our old bodies over to form our weapons. I’ve been stockpiling mine, awaiting opportunity. Which just arrived. He’s bent over, packing and rounding a huge ball. He must think there’s some Snowball Fight Code of Ethics, and I won’t attack if he’s unarmed. He’s sadly mistaken. I launch my stash in quick succession, until his entire backside is white. He waves his snow-whitened glove in the air, begging, “Truce, truce!” “You started it, troublemaker!” I cautiously approach, making sure he’s going to abide by his truce and it’s not an ambush. His cheeks are pink and his eyes are bright. “I see the wheels turning, tell me what you’re thinking,” he prods softly. “How lucky I am that I met you at just the right time.” “You’re tryin’ to kill me, aren’t you?” It makes me giggle, while he hugs me hard against him. With all our outerwear, it’s more of a big squeeze than a hug. It’s time for me to go, and as I back out the gate, Adam says, “I’m crazy for you, remember.” I answer with, “Me, too. Bonkers. Nutso.” I turn and run. Author Bio: Autumn Piper Website Blog Goodreads I write contemporary romance with a high heat index to match their American southwest settings. Known by my writing buddies as "Angst", I have a penchant for making my characters suffer. My stories may be tributes to the old saying, "No pain, no gain", but my Hero and Heroine always get the happily-ever-after they so deserve. I love sunny days, hot bread, the ocean, and that fluttery feeling I get inside at the first spark of a great romance. In between being a wife, mom of two teens, editor and writer, I like to read, garden, take morning walks, and make people laugh--probably succeed here when I try to jog. For me, an excellent book has characters I can sympathize with or hate (sometimes both at once), a story I simply must see through to the end, and realistic dialogue. Give me those key elements, and I'll read any genre or time period, any author. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Amazon gift card of $15 will be awarded to one lucky commenter from this Media Page at the end of the 8 week book tour - Please include your email address with your comment - Good Luck! Today I'm excited to share another one of my favorite people's books with you. Holly Gill is a wonderful person and always generous with her time and help. So to return the favor, I put her in the hot seat! lol Hello Holly and welcome to my blog. I’m so excited to have you here today. I know that the readers are looking forward to learning more about you. Please tell us a little about yourself. I am a wife to Nigel of almost twenty years and a mum of three children Rhys, Victoria and Alisha. I live in Grimsby, England and work as a care assistant at a residential home and in my spare time I write erotic romantic novels. My writing career started when I was a young child I wrote simple romantic material and allowed my imagination to run away then when I was 19 started writing Erotic/Erotica romantic and fitted it around being a mum and wife and after twenty years my dream has come true of being a published author. In my spare time I like visiting my friends, listening to music, watching movies and travelling the English countryside. Now onto some fun questions! If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why? Wow there is so much I would change, not even sure where I would begin. If you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow? Nothing as I put everything down to life experiences. I am a believer things happen for a reason, and wow does life set to try!! When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive! June, getting my first contract with Secret Cravings Publishing, receiving the e-mail to say we have accepted Desires for publication. When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful? I am always helping and offering advise where I can, my best friend suffered a bad break up a few years ago and I dropped everything to be with her. Yes she was grateful and still is, always reminding me how I was there for her when she was at her all time low. What television sitcom is most like your family? Why? Not too sure to be honest, we are unique in ourselves. What’s your favorite thing to do to relax? I like to be driven around in the countryside and reading a book on my kindle. Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author? Yes, I have. It all started back in junior school. I loved writing essays and when given one I use to write pages, even got told by the teacher to write less… I never listened! What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult? I never had any!! I was not a reader at all in my younger days. I preferred writing. However, today I like all kinds of authors, I don’t have a particular one I follow. Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing? Hot Juice… but always drink it when its cold!! Grapes have to have a punnet, I have lost three stone recently so the healthier the better. What have you learned the most from being in the writing business? Loads and still learning. I struggle more with keeping up with everyone when I work and hate being away. I am also learning more about myself and finally the real me is allowed to come out. After years of hiding away, I can finally come out the closet and be myself. Tell us about your latest release: (blurb, excerpt, cover) Desires blurb: Desires—a place where fantasies are made flesh and dreams become real. From BDSM to being a dog, Desires can provide it with bells on, if that’s your kink. Stacie Clifford’s only desire is to regain her sexual confidence after her recent escape from an abusive marriage. She joins Desires looking for re-education in the joys of her body. There is only one condition; her contract states emotional attraction between tutor and student is forbidden. Stacie is fine with that; her heart is so battered she has no desire to give it to anyone else. Then she meets her instructor, Dan. Instantly attracted, at first Stacie thinks it will help to make her sexually comfortable with him. But when she realises she is falling in love, she can’t tear herself away, contract or no. Stacie knows that, no matter how kind and caring Dan appears, he’s just doing his job. Can Stacie overcome her own Desires and walk away? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt: “Where would you begin?” she said, suddenly eager. “That’s up to you. On your notes you said you liked your breasts being touched, maybe…totally up to you…but maybe we could begin there,” he said. Stacie panicked. “You would see me?” “That’s for you to decide. It would be better if I did, but it’s your choice, Stacie,” he said. Stacie’s sudden bravado fled. “May I use the bathroom?” “Of course.” Not wasting a second she headed into the stunning en-suite. She closed the door and pressed her back against it, feeling a total wreck. Her head filled with concerns. She was wavering, not altogether sure of the right thing to do. Her breathing became rapid and panicky. She pushed herself off the door and sat down on the closed toilet lid, taking deep breaths to try to calm herself. “Come on Stacie, sort yourself out. Yes, he’s gorgeous, nothing like you expected, but you’re paying for the session with him. This is a sex club. What did you expect?” she muttered to herself, keeping her voice low. She didn’t want him to hear her talking to herself. He probably already thought she was enough of a fruit loop. Stacie headed over to the sink and stared at her own petrified face in the mirror. “Right, girl.” She glared at herself right in the eye. “You’ve come here to get help. You either walk and be boring and alone for the rest of your life, or you have that nice young man out there teach you.” She gazed back at the bathroom door, with Dan the other side of it. Acid panic splashed about in her stomach, and a lump the size of Everest rose in her throat, but she knew what she had to do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Adult excerpt She squeezed her eyes shut and relished the brush of his hands on her flesh as he exposed her to his view. Stacie inhaled deeply, pushing out her chest toward him, knowing that he had full view of her cleavage bursting out of her sparkling bra. Stacie placed her hands back on her breasts, squeezing and kneading the soft lush flesh. Her mind filled with flickering random images. Dan kissing her, Dan touching her, Dan making love to her while she screamed in ecstasy. Her pussy quivered and she squeezed her muscles, feeling pulses shooting directly from her nipples to her core. How much longer could she wait for him to touch her? Desperately, she moved her hands up and down her hips and waist. Then back to her breasts, squeezing them tight, feeling more eager than ever, feeling frustrated. She wanted, needed to be naked, to feel flesh against flesh. Again Stacie felt Dan come back close to her. He wrapped his arms around her reaching for the back of the bra to unclasp it. All he had to do was lower her back against the satin cover and she would let him take her, then and there. Stacie quivered. She was ready. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How did you decide on your story plot? It all started as I wanted to write about a sex club, and spent ages working out how I should compel the story without being just about horny people having sex constantly. It took me ages to work it out and then Stacie Clifford came to mind seeking help in re-educating herself sexually and the story unfolded from that. How did you choose your characters names and location for your story? I found images that fitted the characters on the internet. The names I picked by looking at the images and went with that and the location I wanted somewhere large enough to hold an exclusive sex club with period features and had enough rooms for all the fantasies, let alone accommodation to fulfil the guests of Desires. Do you have a favorite scene? Why? When Stacie first sees Dan!! Why? She imagined all kinds of bad things and what she didn’t like in a male, and when her eyes set on him, he was nothing like she visioned. Always makes me gulp. Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why? Yes I do, Stacie and how she lacks self-confidence has hidden herself away, just being the person who is in the background and runs around doing everything for others and forgetting about herself. Let our readers know how they can get a hold of you… http://hollyjgill.blogspot.co.uk http://www.facebook.com/hollyjgillauthor https://twitter.com/HollyJGill Is there anything else that you want to share… feel free!!
