Melissa's Musings

Six Sentences Sunday- Jan. 29th

1/29/2012

The wedding invite arrived today. The ivory paper with the fancy black trim was tasteful but filled me with dread.  Looking at my sister’s name in flowery script crushed my dream that this whole event was just a joke.

No matter that she’d shared her news with me on the phone a month
ago, I was still hoping that something would happen to change their mind.

Sexy Saturday- Week 3

1/28/2012

Picture
I'm a visual person.  I love the sights of men.  Their bodies are sexy with their hard edges, muscles and chest hair.  But the sight of men is only one part of their sexiness.  Today I want to talk about their accents.

There is nothing better than sitting with your eyes closed and listening to Gerard Butler speak in his movie, "PS I Love You."  The accent makes me swoon each and every time!  But his Scottish Brogue isn't the only accent that drives me to tingles.

Picture
Just the other day on the radio, they were letting a listener know that he'd been selected for a "Singles Mingle" contest.  The listener was from England and spoke with the most delicious accent.  The radio hosts assured the listener that no matter what he looked like, he was going to go home lucky the night of the mingle because of his voice.

I've had friends in England, Scotland and Austrailia and vouch for their abilities to get women just bI couldn't wait to listen to them speak on phone.  They could talk for hours.  Accents trump looks but looks don't hurt!

Six Sentence Sunday- 1/22

1/22/2012

Taking hold of her purse, Betsie grabbed her keys and opened her
apartment door.“Thank you again for everything.  Would you like to come in for some coffee or lemonade? My grandma taught me to use my manners.
That is unless you are afraid that I will bite. I am a Wolfe after
all. ”

Sexy Saturday- Week Two

1/21/2012

Picture
last week I wrote about the sexiness of guys in a shower with the water trickling down their bodies.  Today I'm going to share with you another thing that I find sexy about men.... a man in a uniform!  I know that many women feel a little weak in the knees when they see a guy wearing a uniform, working that fire, saving a woman's life or just wearing their dress blues.  A man in a uniform, especially when they wear it so well, tells the woman that they are a person who believes in protecting others.

Picture
Movies like "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Top Gun" brought to life that fantasy of military men who loved their country so much that they put their lives on the line for it.  As well, they loved their women so passionately that they cherished them. Who doesn't get a little weepy over the scene where the hero is coming home to the wife and they run to each other.

Picture
Men in uniform are men who command respect.  They are obviously guys who are good with their hands and don't mind getting into a situation that might be messy.  They can think on their feet and are commanding.  There is something super sexy about peeling back the layers of a guy's uniform to reveal that smokin' hot body beneath.  It's like you are unwrapping a piece of delicious chocolate only for you to sample.  They present this polished look for everyone else, but you as their woman, can enjoy the treats underneath!  Have a Sexy Saturday!  Enjoy!

An Undying First Crush-
She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Just the sight of her filled my body with tingles (not just down there) and brought the sound of angels singing. All I wanted was for us to spend eternity together, or at least to sit at the same table for lunch.

We were in the sixth grade, Misty was her name, and she had beauty way beyond her years. I on the other hand, did not have a mullet, but being a fat, pimple faced kid with thick glasses and the last name of ‘Woody’ wasn’t much better. It
wasn’t going to be easy to win her heart, especially since I was terribly shy and the laughing stock of our class. Being given wedgies everyday made it hard for my pleasant personality to shine through.

Second to Marcia Brady, Misty was biggest crush I’d ever had. I wrote her name on all my folders in my Trapper Keeper (remember those?). She consumed all of my thoughts. I had the pleasure of sitting next to her in English, maybe that’s why I still have some grammatical issues because my mind was elsewhere during class. Of course her feelings were far from mutual, and was dating a jock. Despite all the obstacles, including the fact she treated me with no respect, I didn’t give up hope. The day would come when my dream would be realized.

That summer Misty moved away, she was gone when school started the next year. She had disappeared without a trace. I didn’t even get to say goodbye. All my dreams of our wedded bliss were dashed. I was left with nothing, not even knowing how far away she was. Only one thing was for sure, I probably never even crossed her mind.

For the next 10, almost 20 years I never forgot about Misty. I’d often wonder about her whereabouts and well being. She still held a special place in my heart.
There is always only just one first crush. Chances of ever seeing her again were
slim to none, and even less that she’d have any interest in me. True life isn’t
like the movie or romance novels.

Then due to the powers of Facebook, I found her! Still with the same stunning good looks, as if she hasn’t aged a bit. Plus, lives in the same vicinity. And even
remembered me. It’s not all perfect, she is married. Has been a couple of times.
We’ve had some very nice chats and she recently started working at a
restaurant/bar just a couple miles from me. I’ve been invited to stop in and see
her.

Misty is the girl of my dreams, I’ve been wanting to see her again for close to 20 years and now the opportunity is almost literally at my doorstep. And I haven’t taken advantage of it. A part of me is overly anxious, yet another part of me is scared. Unsure of going back to the sixth grade and unleashing all my feelings for her that have been locked away.

Whatever shall I do?

Six Sentence Sunday- More from my latest work.

1/15/2012

Picture
She couldn’t have four people living in her apartment but she really hated relying on others. What if
they didn’t have the tea she liked to drink when her throat was sore?  What if she needed that extra blanket
that she kept in the box at the end of her bed for when she was cold?
It felt too permanent to be leaving her home.  It wasn’t as if she was going on a vacation. She’s being forced to leave her home because someone was trying to kill her.

Sexy Saturday- Day One

1/14/2012

What do you think is sexy? Today inspiration struck when my husband was in the shower.  I'd love to have a discussion with you about what is sexy.  Do you like certain types of guys or girls?  Do you like certain clothes or is it their job?  What do you find sexy? Over the next couple of Saturdays, we're going to talk about sexy images.  Make sure you tell your friends!

Picture
Guys in the shower are intensely sexy as the water sluices down their body. I love to watch the water dripping down their backs and over their muscles. The razor gliding across their face and the way they run their
hands over their heads causing the water to fall in drops to their feet.

Picture
The smell of freshly showered male is passionately arousing.  Don't you want to run your hands over this guy's body?

What do you find sexy? Write and let me know.

Six Sentences Sunday Jan. 8

1/8/2012

The detective looked down at the small form huddled in the police issue green blanket and noticed her shaking body. Crouching down to be face to face, Jonah immediately noticed how delicate her features were and how her golden hair cascaded around her face like a painting of Michelangelo. She had a pixie-like face with green eyes that seemed to angle upwards, a small nose with a dusting of freckles, and a heart shaped pair of lips. I’d love to see her eyes sparkle with laughter. I wonder how tall she is.

A Look Back at 2011

1/1/2012

Picture
Picture
Another year has ended, resolutions have been written for 2012 and now it's time to look back at the year that has passed.

This year has been a year of ups and downs for me.  I've had a lot of challenges with work and my health which has impacted every part of my life. I'm learning how to take care of myself again, rather than taking care of everyone else around me, letting my own needs fall by the wayside.  Many of my resolutions for next year have to deal with balancing my needs against my desire to put everyone else first.

Some of the highest parts of this past year have been my writing. I can officially say today that I am an author.  The stories that I've had in my head are finally finding their way into books. In addition, some amazing friendships have been formed with authors that I look up to.  They've been my biggest supporters and have helped me become an author in my own right.

Another high point of this year was spending time with my high school friend, AC who also had her share of challenges.  Even after fifteen years, the moment we saw each other, time seemed to slip away and we were back to the bond we shared in high school.

Finally, I'm very grateful for my family, my huband, inlaws, and children who've stood by me this year throughout all my ups and downs.  They could've easily walked away from my issues, but have been my biggest fans.

I hope that as you look back on 2011 that you'll find many
