Passion, Poison, & Puppy Dogs
A Danger Cove Pet Sitter Mystery
Sally S. Smith & Jean Steffens
Gemma Halliday Publishing
ISBN: 9781943587469

—In this dog eat dog world, it’s people you have to keep your eye on.

When Lizzie Jones, pet sitter extraordinaire, is asked to watch over her best friend's two spoiled dogs at the posh gated community of Craggy Hill Estates, the last things she expects is to wind up in the middle of a homicide. But that's exactly what happens when she finds her best friend's cheating husband and Danger Cove’s celebrity bodybuilder champ, Mr. Jupiter, floating facedown in his hot tub. To make matters worse, the police aren’t looking any further than the wife for a suspect—isn’t it always the wife? Well, not in this case—at least Lizzie refuses to believe it.

Between dealing with Craggy Hill's hot security guard, Tino Morales—who also just happens to be the man who broke Lizzie’s heart in high school, caring for her grieving friend, and watching three rambunctious dogs, Lizzie has her hands full. So she recruits her famous granddad, retired network field correspondent, Jimmy John Jones, to help her put two and two together to find the real killer. Was Mr. Jupiter murdered by one of his women on the side? A jealous, disgruntled employee? Or someone with a bitter and deep-seated hatred of the superstar? It's up to Lizzie, Jimmy John, and Lizzie's own pug, Vader, to crack the case before the killer claims another victim...this one much closer to Lizzie’s own heart!

The Separation
Stormy Corrin Russell

Evernight Teen, 83k words
Distopian, Sci-Fi, Romance

In a world where men and women live on separate sides of a massive wall, seventeen year old misfit Eroyn Fairchild has always been too busy with her broken family to wonder why they live the way they do. When a man from the other side breaks through, Ero holds him hostage, hoping for a ransom large enough to pay for her Elder Grace’s treatment. Things get more complicated as the man is followed by two others who make Ero question everything she’s ever known about her life. As Ero searches for the truth, the lines between right and wrong blur, leaving her to choose between saving her city and saving herself.

Teaser:
One of the things I love about Grace is that she is the heaviest sleeper I know. So heavy, in fact, she doesn’t hear me dragging a thrashing body through the front door at two in the morning. For the first time in my life, I consider it lucky that we live on the outskirts of the north side. If we didn’t, I would never have been able to get it this far without attracting attention. A loud, confused sound starts to come from the net, so I kick it firmly.
“Shut up,” I hiss, looking around nervously. I’m not worried about Grace rousing, but I don’t want the neighbors waking up and noticing my noisy cargo. I kick twice more, as hard as I can. Silence, finally. With a sigh, I wipe my arm across my forehead, getting rid of the sweat beading there. I sink down on the couch, staring at the large lump inside the net on my living room floor unblinkingly. Little red flowers are blooming all over the heavy white plastic, and they grow quickly. It’s blood, I realize with a sick feeling. It’s seeping through from the inside and leaking onto the clean white carpet of our house. It can’t be real. It just can’t be.
I see Almond cut across the room and sniff at the lump with caution. With one movement, I scoop him up and press him to my chest in horror. For the first time, I realize the danger of what I've just done. I’ve invited a monster into my house.
I’ve made a horrible, horrible mistake.
It takes Luna ten minutes to get here five minutes faster than usual but it feels like hours. She lets herself in the back door quietly, but I rush into the kitchen to meet her.
“Where’s Grace?” she asks with urgency, dropping her medical bag on the kitchen table.
“What? No, I … this isn’t about Grace,” I stutter. I open my mouth once, then again, but it’s no use. Nothing is coming out, so I turn on my heel and tiptoe into the living room. Luna wordlessly follows, eyeing the netted form. I kneel next to it, holding my breath. With shaking hands, I slide the knife into the plastic and pull it upwards slowly. I know what it’s going to reveal when I pull the plastic away, but it still makes my breath leave my lungs in an audible whoosh. I can’t seem to inhale again once it’s gone. I hear Luna do the same next to me.
“Is it a…?” She leaves her sentence unfinished, and I nod. The small slit I cut in the plastic shows a thick arm under a rolled-up shirt, far too thin for our recently nasty winter. At the very end of the slit, I glimpse a swollen throat and a jaw covered in a dark shadow of hair. A chill runs down my spine and my stomach turns.
“Is he alive?” Luna asks, her voice small.
“I … I think so.” I stare at the floor guiltily. “I kicked him pretty hard to shut him up.” She scoots closer and with trembling fingers folds back the plastic to see his side, where most of the blood is coming from.
“Cut the rest of it off him,” she tells me quietly. I stare at her in shock.
“But, he––” She cuts me off with a look.
“He isn’t dead yet, but he will be if I don’t stop the blood loss.”
        I swallow hard, and comply.

Follow the heart through darkness…

As the Inquisition gains force, even the faintest rumor can brand one a heretic. In this world it is Sancha's gift--or curse--to be blessed with the gift of healing. But the villagers are in need of her arts more than ever, and she feels it is her duty to help them at the risk of losing her life. And at the sacrifice of her heart…
Enrique has never wanted a woman as he does Sancha. Determined to have her love, he woos her with exquisite passion, giving her refuge to pursue her healing in secret. But their very desire and escape from the ruthless forces of the world may be their undoing. And together, they must pit themselves against a jealous rival and archaic tradition to secure their place in a hopeful new dawn…

Excerpt:

Rusted chains rested on the floor. Bolts studded the walls at intervals sufficiently high to hold a man’s arms above his head, low enough to shackle his feet.
Enrique bypassed those items, stopping at the lone chair and long table, her volumes stacked on top. She had so many the wood was no longer visible beneath her books.
He put his candle in a holder, picked up the first volume, and turned page after page, his handsome features slackening with shock. “This is in Arabic.”
“Some are in Latin. I can read both languages.”
“This volume is on Islamic medicine.”
She put her candle into a holder. “All of them are.”
He stared as if seeing her for the first time with the image not pleasing him. “This is heresy.”
Her spirits fell. Although she hadn’t expected him to understand fully or to grin in delight, she didn’t want him to be so intolerant.
She joined him and stroked her books as she would a beloved child. “This is knowledge.”
He rested his hands on her shoulders. “Sancha, listen to me. What you have here are from Spain’s enemies.”
“No.” She pushed his hands off her. “Physicians penned these books centuries before our birth. How can they threaten you, me, or anyone else in this country?”
“I concede those men pose no menace now. However, their ancestors did and the generations that follow still do.”
“Then hate them, not those who wrote the books. What they discovered is beyond compare and saved Fernando’s life, arm, and leg. When his wounds infected, I learned how to treat them as I had Maria’s in order to save both of them. Not because of Spain’s physicians, the Church, religion, or custom. Because of Zakariya Razi. Rhazes to those who honor him.”
She gestured to the great man’s book. “Reading his work opened my eyes to so many possibilities. Men need not go lame, blind, or die needlessly if someone knows how to treat them. Rhazes’s people established medicine far surpassing what we know. A famous tale relates how he determined where to build a hospital for the community. He had meat hung in various locations around Baghdad. The spot where the carcasses rotted the least was the one he chose, because he knew what caused illness.”
She circled the table and lifted a cage with mice inside. Three fat ones eyed her, noses twitching. “I experiment on these creatures wherever I am, testing what my books claim. Thus far, all holds true. The potions and treatments these men discovered centuries ago help us now. How can that be wrong? Would you have preferred I let Fernando die?”
“Of course not.” He threw up his hands. “But this…”
“This is the future. Spain may keep its people from knowing anything so miraculous but the rest of the world will never stand still. They will move forward as we mire ourselves in unending battles and for what? A piece of land? A castle? What about people? Do they have no value except for your family?”
He frowned. “You matter.”
“Then try to understand why I do what I must. How important this is to me.”
“I can see that. You rage like a madwoman.”
“Perhaps I am.” She turned away. “You should leave.”
“Without you? Never.”
She crossed to the other side of the room before he could reach her. “You have no claim on me.”
“Not yet.”
Frowning, she looked over.
“Study what you want.” He made a sweeping gesture to take in all her books. “Experiment on whatever creature appeals to you. Heal when you will.”
Surprised at his comment, she softened her stance. “Truly? You believe in what I do?”
“You give me no choice, and I give you none. From this moment forward whenever and wherever you heal, I intend to accompany you as your protector.”

.@melissa_keir- Rock of Ages is a Fun Night Out!

Rock of Ages at The Dio- Dining and Entertainment

Rock of Ages is a rock musical built around the music of the 1980’s and tells the story of two young lovers who find love only to have their hearts broken before finding about what true love is. Sherrie is fresh off the bus from the Midwest and Drew is a boy from Detroit who meet at a Hollywood nightclub/bar. Sparks fly until Drew declares them “friends” and Sherrie sleeps with top rocker, Stacee Jax. As the Burbon Room faces a bulldozer, Sherrie’s and Drew’s dreams crash and burn.

The music has you tapping your toes along with the songs. While the jokes will have you laughing out loud. The cast of Rock of Ages features local talent as well as bigger names from venues. Rock of Ages was directed by Steve DeBruyne, who wears many hats in this production including acting as Lonny, who breaks the fourth wall, talking to the audience at times. Steve had the best jokes and funkiest wardrobe.

I fell in love with the leads. Christopher Kamm, who played Drew, was a ball of energy on stage. Sean Philibin plays Stacee Jax with a wink in his eye. With sexy, scantily dressed waitresses who doubled as exotic dancers in other scenes, there's eye candy for the guys.

The Dio Theater in downtown Pinckney is an out of the way place for such quality entertainment. Run by Steve DeBruyne with Jarod DeBruyne as a chef, the Dio is a cozy venue with delicious food, ala banquet style. Some of the cast waits tables making sure you have all the soda and water you need, as well as serving dessert during the intermission. I don’t know how they did it all! I’d have been out of breath after the dance moves and singing, let alone finding time to make sure people had drinks.

If you are looking for a fun night out…one that will get your toes tapping, The Dio’s Rock of Ages will have you smiling all the way home.

There's no place like home...especially for a wolf who shouldn't have run away

Wylder Aaron always knew Starr Joseph was his mate, but the time wasn’t right for them. To escape his hopeless feelings for her, he fled Los Lobos and joined the military, not even saying goodbye.

Starr wanted nothing more in life than Wylder. When he left, she fled too. Her sultry beauty made her an instant success as the new look for a major cosmetics firm. However, fame is fleeting. At twenty-six, she’s old news and forgotten. Worse, loneliness led her into the arms of another were-shifter with a jealous streak. During his last rage, he slashed the side of her face, promising to kill her the next time she tried to flee.

She did anyway, returning to the safety and anonymity of Los Lobos…straight into Wylder’s arms.

Excerpt:

Starr sagged into him, lost in his heat and strength. Bad move for someone who claimed to want peace and solitude, but she couldn’t help herself. She had needed to taste him for twelve years, dreamed of his stubble rasping her cheeks, his tongue deep within her mouth, possessing her.
He eased her closer, his grip steel, unwilling to let her go. He drove his fingers into her hair and cupped her skull, keeping her still in order to plunder her mouth.
A whimper rose to the base of her throat, the sound muffled by his tongue and the blood pounding in her ears. Never had she been as alive, her body molded to his, fitting perfectly. God, she wanted to drown in his effortless masculinity, laze in his kindness.
Whatever she wanted, he’d said.
This, for now. Later, who knew?
He’d hurt her beyond words years before. She understood he hadn’t meant to. However, the pain had lingered and grown, leaving her unsure about men. She’d never had a father to teach her how guys thought or behaved, only Wylder. He’d been her instructor without realizing he was even playing the role. She came to expect every guy to be like him, running from her as he had, leaving her uncertain and lonely.
Kade had been different, his intensity a comfort rather than setting off alarms. What a fool she’d been. No more. She had to take things slow no matter what her heart and body wanted.
Wylder ran his thumb over her throat, pulling a new moan from her. Forgetting control, she sucked his tongue deeper, not yet content, wanting to be a part of his heart, blood, and soul. Would she ever have enough?
She’d followed him to his job, this store, and Gee’s, hoping to get some relief from her endless craving rather than whetting her appetite for more. At least Wylder hadn’t laughed at her foolish stalking. If he had, she would have died even more inside. Instead, he’d made himself available, almost too visible as he’d never had in the past.
Because he was a changed man, she a changed woman, things could work out.
In time.
She pulled her mouth free again, her lips stinging from the force of their kiss.
“Uh-uh, we’re not through.” He brought her right back, practically devouring her, the same as she did with him, her leg wrapped around his, arms wreathed over his shoulders, the noises they made sloppy, joyous, uncontrolled.
“Ah, guys?”
She froze. He didn’t, grunting and groaning. With her palm on his chest, she pushed him back, freeing herself. Quickly, she smoothed her hair on the left side.
A friend of her mom glanced past her to him and gestured to the candy rack. “I just need the gumdrops and I’ll be on my way.”
Wylder pulled every pack off the metal pole and handed them to her.
She smiled wanly. “Thanks.”
“Welcome.” He snaked his arm around Starr’s waist again.
She elbowed his gut.
His breath puffed out. He dropped his arm. “What was that for?”
“Enough of the kissing. All right?”
“Hell no.” He crowded her.
She stood her ground and lifted her chin. Her days of being a pushover for any man were history.
His shoulders drooped. He gave her one of those don’t-be-mad-at-me smiles guys used at one time or another to get their way.
She wasn’t moved.
He sobered. “You want to go outside?”
“No.”
“Where?”
“Home.”
“Whose?”
“Mine.”
His eyebrows shot up. “Your mom’s there, right?” He scratched his neck. “Won’t she mind if we, uh, you know….”
He didn’t need to draw her a picture. “No, she won’t mind, because we aren’t going to.”
His shoulders slumped again. “You mean today, right?”
Hell, he was asking her as though she knew. “I wanted to kiss you. That’s all.”
“Wait.” He held up his hand, grew thoughtful, and stared. “Since you have kissed me, you don’t want to anymore, ever? Was I that bad?”
Her legs were still wobbly, her insides and brain reduced to mush. She was still using all her will to retain her dignity. If she hadn’t, she would have dropped to the floor, drooling like the unhinged. “Seriously, you need to ask?”
His cheeks reddened. “Only with you.”
Because she mattered or because she hadn’t given him two thumbs up? “I have to go.”
He grabbed her wrist. “Why? We can have a beer, take a walk, talk.”
Not with her tangled thoughts, they couldn’t. They’d end up in his room, humping away. Gee’s patrons would hear every whap of the bed against the floor and wall. She was already tense whenever the pack members spotted her, not knowing what they might say. Adding more gossip wouldn’t help. Once her and Wylder’s kiss in here zipped through the town’s supersonic grapevine, everyone would be looking at her as though she had three heads instead of two, like they were currently doing.
She yanked her arm away. “Bye.” She fled the building and raced past the vehicles in the lot, reaching the road.
“Starr Joseph, stop, I mean it!”
She jerked at Wylder’s shout and turned.
He was yards away, sunlight glancing off his silky hair, the rays glinting in his light eyes. His eyebrows and stubble were nearly black, his skin rich and fragrant, the scent drifting toward her with the breeze.
She bit back a wanton moan.
He pointed his finger at her. “You’re my mate, understand? Sooner or later—and I predict much, much sooner—we are getting together. Believe it.”

About Tina:

I’m an Amazon and international bestselling novelist in erotic, paranormal, contemporary and historical romance for Kensington, Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Siren Publishing, Booktrope, Luminosity, Decadent, and indie. Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times and numerous online sites have praised my work. Three of my erotic novels (Freeing the Beast, Come and Get Your Love, and Wicked Takeover) were Readers' Choice Award winners. Another three (Adored, Lush Velvet Nights, and Deep, Dark, Delicious) were named finalists in the EPIC competition. Sensual Stranger, my erotic contemporary romance, was chosen Book of the Year at the French review site Blue Moon reviews. The Golden Nib Award at Miz Love Loves Books was created specifically for my erotic romance Lush Velvet Nights. Two of my titles (The Yearning and Deep, Dark, Delicious) received an Award of Merit in the RWA Holt Medallion competition. Take Me Away and Adored both won second place in the NEC RWA contest (different years). I’m featured in the Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Before penning romances, I worked at a major Hollywood production company in Story Direction.

On a less serious note: I’m an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, I brake for Mexican restaurants, and have been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally while I’m wolfing down tostadas. I’ve flown a single-engine airplane (freaking scary), rewired an old house using an ‘electricity for dummies’ book, and am horribly shy despite the hot romances I write.

Character Interview

Answer all three (as yourself):

  1. Your name—Marianne Rice
  2. Name of your book—Then Came You
  3. First and last name of the character being interviewed—Grayson Montgomery

Answer each of the questions as if you were your main character—Architect and heir to the Buchanan Fashion empire Grayson Montgomery
  1. What is your greatest fear? That I won’t be able to find my true self. I’ve lived so long being the person others wanted me to be. I’m working hard to step out from the pressure of my family and discover myself, my desires, my new goals.
  2. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?  I wish I could stand up to my grandmother. She’s the matriarch of our family and for my entire life I’ve watched her employees and my parents bow to her. I’ve watched her mentally and emotionally abuse my mother and have become the emotionless robot she wanted me to be. It never bothered me before, or maybe I never noticed before…Thyme.
  3. What is your greatest extravagance? *smirks* My private jet. It was only used for business until I met Thyme.
  4. What is your current state of mind?  Ha! My mind was career focused until I met Thyme and Maddie. Now I can’t think straight and find myself smiling and laughing when I should be crunching numbers or designing my next building.
  5. What do you most dislike about your appearance?  I wish I was more comfortable in my skin. Being wealthy never used to be a fault. Until I met Thyme. I never used to smile much but can’t help myself these days. It’s a big improvement. I’m sure Thyme will tell you the same.
  6. When and where were you happiest? *A smile as big as his jet plane lights up his face* When I’m with Thyme and my newly discovered daughter, Maddie.

Title: THEN CAME YOU
Author: Marianne Rice
Series: The Wilde Sisters, Book #2
SYNOPSIS:
Thyme Wilde doesn’t make long-term decisions—until she falls in love with one…

Easily bored and quickly distracted, Thyme enjoys her freedom, so being a temp at her sister’s company is the perfect job. But when she takes a position as a nanny, she instantly falls in love with the five-year-old princess named Maddie—and just two months later, Maddie’s parents are killed in a plane crash, leaving Thyme in an unfamiliar role of responsibility.

Multi-millionaire architect Grayson Montgomery lives in the lap of luxury—but at a cost…

Being the sole heir of his family’s fashion empire and his father’s architectural firm, Grayson has never lacked for anything. But in return, he must stay subservient to the matriarch of his family—his grandmother—and date the heiress of their largest business partner. The only freedom Grayson has is his architectural designs, which are his true passion.

One day changes Grayson’s future forever…

A lawyer summons Grayson to Maine for the reading of the will of a woman he once knew. He doesn’t expect to be named the father of a five-year-old orphan. Then he meets his newly-discovered daughter—and her incredibly sexy nanny.

While acting as Maddie’s loyal nanny, Thyme develops feelings for her new employer that are more than professional. And after several passionate nights with Grayson, it’s clear the feeling is mutual.

When it’s made evident Grayson sees her as a convenient placeholder, Thyme must push aside her desires and put Maddie above herself—even if it means sacrificing her heart to do it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Marianne Rice writes contemporary romances set in small New England towns. Her heroes are big and strong, yet value family and humor, while her heroines are smart, sexy, sometimes a little bit sassy, and are often battling a strong internal conflict. Together, they deal with real life issues and always, always, find everlasting love. When she’s not writing, Marianne spends her time buying shoes, eating chocolate, chauffeuring her herd of children to their varying sporting events, and when there’s time, cuddling with her husband, a drink in one hand, a romance book in the other.

.@melissa_keir: Tamara Lush in the Hot Seat! #author #interview

I'm always excited to share an interview with you...getting behind the scenes information on authors is fun! Let's see what Tamara has to say once she's in the hot seat!

Hello Tamara Lush, and thank you for visiting today.  Tell us a little about yourself.

By day, I’m a journalist with The Associated Press. At night, I write fictional romance tales about complicated, sexy men and the independent woman who captivate them.

Thanks! It sounds like you have an interesting life. Now on to some personal questions. If you could go back in time to when you were seven years old, what wisdom or advice would you pass on to yourself?
1. Don’t waste your money on moisturizers. Use coconut oil instead.
2. That guy? The sexiest, most arrogant one in the room? He’s not worthy of your time and attention. Move on. (Repeat as needed).
3. Follow your instincts. They’re always right.

For what are you grateful?
I’m insanely blessed to have a husband that loves and cares for me and I’m eternally grateful for him. I’m also grateful for my health, because without that, everything is incidental. My friends, my co-workers and my dogs are all sources of immense joy.

If a zombie virus took over the world, how many days do you think you could last before you were infected? And what would you do to postpone the inevitable?
I don’t think I’d last long because I’d likely have to write news articles about the outbreak and I’d get infected quickly. I’d wash my hands a lot, though.

Ouch. Well at least you'll know where the outbreaks are! What television sitcom is most like your family? Why?
The Addams Family. We have an unusual and macabre sense of humor.

What’s your favorite thing to do to relax?
Walk with my husband and dogs on the beach.

Okay... now I'm jealous...the beach! *sigh* Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author?
I always wanted to write, in some way. I started writing in grade school. I’d write little books about adventurous men who were archaeologists or explorers and their equally adventurous girlfriends. Really, I don’t think my themes have changed all that much, I guess.

What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
I loved Judy Blume as a child, but my favorite book was Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. As an adult, I love narrative non-fiction. Cheryl Strayed, in particular, is one of my favorites. For romance, I love Lisa Kleypas, Molly O’Keefe, Tiffany Reisz and Roni Loren.

Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
My critique partner, Kat Faitour, got me hooked on writing to the sounds of rain and thunder.

How did you decide to write a contemporary romance story?
I decided to write contemporary romance because I love the genre and read it for years. I believe that romance novels are mostly stories of a woman’s experience – how a woman chooses love and life on her own terms. I believe that writing romance, and writing about women choosing (and usually getting) exactly what they want, is a deeply feminist act.

What have you learned the most from being in the writing business?
I’ve learned to have a neverending well of patience. Submitting my manuscripts to agents and editors took a level of patience that I didn’t know I possessed.

Tell us about your latest release:
My latest release is called Tell Me a Story. Here’s a blurb:

A flirtatious reading of erotica blossoms into something deep and tender in the steamy Florida heat...

Tell Me a Story

Emma, a free-spirited bookstore owner in Orlando, keeps her business afloat with innovative ideas. Her most popular evening event is Story Brothel, where customers can pay writers to read aloud to them in a story-time for two, complete with cocktails. Despite the name, the event is usually tame. But things take a steamy turn when a handsome, urbane businessman hires Emma for a session in a private cabana. Daringly, she shares with him a reading of her erotica. Soon both of them are feeling the effects … and Emma’s wondering what kind of lover is underneath his expensive suit.

Caleb may be a billionaire real estate mogul, but he’s never been captivated by a woman as he is by the lovely, quirky Emma. Her rockabilly vintage dresses make him long to strip them off and do very wicked things to her. And her refusal to share her personal life only makes him more curious.

Soon the couple are spending every available moment together. But Emma’s building is in danger of being razed out from under her bookstore … and worse, Caleb may be behind her problems. Can she trust him with her life as she does with her body? Or will the prickly walls built during her harsh past keep them apart?

Book Excerpt:
I wanted him the second I looked into his steel-blue eyes.

“How much?” he asked. It was a sexy voice, a deep voice, and I smiled—a smile that alluded to everything but promised nothing, aware of appearing coy and knowing and not-too-eager.

I was in the mood to flirt.

Before I could answer, my friend Sarah broke in. “It’s two dollars a minute. Two dollars, one minute of reading. Half goes to charity, half goes to the writer. But you can negotiate with the writer, if you know what I mean.”

The man smiled and ran a thumb over his full bottom lip as he looked me up and down.

Sarah laughed and wiggled her dark brows. “That’s why I called it Story Brothel. It’s between the reader—” she clapped him on the shoulder “—and the writer. God, I love this. I feel like a madam. Like the Heidi Fleiss of Florida fiction.”

She reached to squeeze my arm, then leaned into me and lowered her voice playfully. “Remember: half for charity. No skimming.”

I rolled my eyes. “Like I’d do that.” Sarah stood on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek.

“He looks rich. Maybe he’ll pay you extra so you can save the bookstore,” she whispered.

I scowled, not wanting a reminder of work. This was my rare night out, a time when I wasn’t buried in orders or paperwork or my writing. It was when I transformed myself from serious shop owner into romance writer, like some pulp fiction superheroine. Glasses off; wild, curly hair down; blood-red lipstick staining every napkin and cocktail rim in my path.

And maybe this man’s mouth in a short while. I was long overdue for male attention. At least, that’s what I told myself as I took in his charcoal suit, his crisp white shirt, and the platinum glint of a wristwatch dial. I hadn’t been kissed in a long time—not well, at least. And not by a man this interesting looking.

An unfamiliar song came on, some Arabic-lounge groove with strong, heavy drums. It was how my heart felt against my ribcage. Sarah moved into the crowd. I kept smiling. So did he.

“Story Brothel,” he murmured in a voice so low I could barely hear the words. Because he was tall, he had to tilt his face and his gunmetal-blue eyes downward to look at me.

I shook my head dramatically and clicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth. “You don’t seem like the type of man who’d come to an event like this.”

“I don’t?” His eyes glittered and teased. They were such a gorgeous hue that popped against his long, dark lashes. He wasn’t the most handsome man I’d ever seen, but he radiated confidence and sensuality. His features—high cheekbones, a slightly big nose, a strong jaw—wouldn’t have stood out on their own, but the combination was irresistibly masculine. Intriguing. Fuckable.

“No. And I’ve never seen you here before.”
“This isn’t a one-time only thing?”

“It’s a monthly thing, for the Orlando Literacy Council.”

“So you’re an experienced…story…?” He motioned in a half-circle with his hand, and a salacious grin crept on his face.

“Whore?” I offered with mock innocence.

“You said it. I didn’t.”

That made me giggle.

“What’s that quote about writing and prostitution?” he asked.

I tilted my head, and a grin the size of the Everglades stretched across my face. It was impossible not to react because his question surprised me. Even though I owned a bookstore, meeting well-read, hot men was a rare event in my central Florida city, which was better known as the home of a giant cartoon mouse.

“Writing is like sex. First you do it for love…”

He chimed in. “…then you do it for your friends, and then for money.”

How did you decide on your story plot?
Tell Me a Story came from an actual literary event in my city called Story Brothel, where people pay writers to listen to them read aloud. I loved the concept and wondered what would happen if an erotica writer met a handsome man at Story Brothel and read him a sexy story.

How did you choose your characters names and location for your story?
I love the sound of the name Emma. And I wanted a very masculine, yet unusual name, so I went with Caleb. I set most of my books in Florida, and Tell Me a Story is no different. It’s set in Orlando, largely because that city is a place of fantasy and fairy tales – and Tell Me a Story is a fairy tale for adult women.

Do you have a favorite scene? Why?
My favorite scene is the beginning, when Emma and Caleb lock eyes and banter. When he buys her a drink, and they flirt erotically without touching or saying anything particularly sexual. Sometimes the biggest turn ons come from witty banter.

I agree. Minds are so sexy! Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why? No, the characters in Tell Me a Story are purely fictional! I don’t live half the exciting life Emma does.

.@melissa_keir: Do You Have an Angel Watching Over You? #newrelease

4/17/2016

THE GUARDIAN
Book 1 of the Mended Souls series
by
Jacquie Biggar
Cover Designer: Killion Group
Official genre of book: Paranormal romantic suspense
Restitution begins with the truth.
Lucas Carmichael and Scott Anderson had it all, money, fame, and fortune. But one night's stupid mistake takes everything they thought they cherished and dumps it upside down.
A car accident ends Lucas' life and leaves Scott injured and bitter.
As the local ME, Tracy York, investigates the case, discrepancies begin to point to more than a simple drunk driving incident.
When threats are made to Tracy's life can Scott and his guardian angel, Lucas, protect her, or will she become another casualty?
Tracy watched those lips that had fueled thousands of fantasies edge nearer and wondered if she was going to hyperventilate. Scott Anderson was about to kiss her. How had this happened? And even more, how was she going to go back to her normal, everyday life after he left?
Then his mouth touched hers and everything went into slow-mo. Every inch of skin became incredibly sensitized, even the follicles of her hair. It was crazy. And wildly exhilarating. He smelled of wine and chocolate and she was never going to get over him.
His hands delved into her hair, holding her head in place for his kisses. And there was a reason he was a movie sex symbol, the man could kiss. Her toes curled and her fingers flexed against his broad chest. The heat radiating from his big body acted like an aphrodisiac, lulling her mind and rejuvenating her body.

.@melissa_keir: Bianca's Guide to Riding the Bus...#pnr #newrelease

4/14/2016

Bianca’s Guide to Riding on the Bus

Bianca is the horseman of conquest. She enjoys riding the bus but not necessarily all the time. Here are a few handy tips on surviving the bus ride to work in the morning.

  1. Avoid the smelly humans. Ok to be fair immortals can smell bad too but humans seem to smell awful more. Peak stick times are late late (after happy hour and last call) or on certain routes past gyms in the early morning. Peak time is rush hour after work. Lots of milling smelly humans.
  2. Hand sanitizer. Enough said there.
  3. A book. Avoid direct eye contact if at all possible. Crossword puzzle, phone, whatever. Don’t meet eyes with the crazy ones.
  4. Don’t eat or drink on the bus. Just a bad idea. Takes one deep pothole or one off balance drunk to send the food or beverage all over you.
  5. Bring flats. Heels and walking between bus stops and destinations do not make for a good morning…or evening.
  6. Make sure you have correct change or your charge card has money on it. Nothing more embarrassing than having the lesser beings stare at your like you’re wasting their time. (You’re welcome for not reducing you to a pile of dust by the way).
  7. Did I say hand sanitizer?
  8. If your friend offers you her car service, don’t be an idiot and too proud to take it. Just take the chauffeured, leather interior, shiny black, beautiful car.
  9. The ability to control people helps clear them out of the way. So have that whenever possible. Humans don’t come standard with that though…so SOL.
  10. Just don’t take the bus. That’s the best tip. Only ride the bus when you have no other option. Might I recommend fairy king’s with magic portals. They are handy for getting around.
You can read more about Bianca in On a White Horse.

On a White Horse

Blurb:
Victor Brandt has a secret. As a new resident to New York, he goes out in search of diversion, and he finds it behind a red door. The Underworld embraces him, and soon he realizes he's going back night after night just to see Mistress Lethe: a Dominatrix so demanding she will satisfy her submissive into forgetting their own name before stealing her pleasure. But soon Mistress Lethe draws Victor into her world, and he realizes it's a lot larger than he thought.

Bianca's coffee business is booming, but her love life is lacking. With each step her friends—the other three horsemen of the apocalypse—take toward happiness, she holds herself back. As visions of the future threaten everything the horsemen have built, Bianca finds a man who sees all of her: the light and the dark, and for a little while she becomes Mistress Lethe, a simple woman and the embodiment of Conquest. But fate plays cruel jokes, and after only a short time with Victor she is confronted with a decision that can save the world but cost her the first man that’s ever made her want to be human.

When a mysterious stranger arrives bearing ill omens, Bianca wonders if she can keep together her motley crew in order to save the world. Or will the threesome’s tangled emotions usher in the apocalypse? Come and see.

Excerpt:

Bianca berated herself for succumbing to such distraction. Victor, his body, sighs, and all that toned brown skin. Even after her seal was stolen, she still couldn’t get him from her mind. It’s not like they didn’t have an idea of who stole it. It made sense she’d target Bianca since she’d humiliated her when they fought with Hel in the Underworld. The fact that a hellhound had entered her home while she and Katherine were out and stole the crown enraged her. Even Victor’s beautiful body couldn’t heal that sense of violation. When she raced home and found the place empty, at first fear flashed through her for Katherine’s safety, but she called the others and located them all at Scarlet’s place. They partied along completely oblivious through the theft of her seal and where was she? Shame poured over her as her mind drifted back to Victor.

Every inch of her wanted to take Victor again and mark him as her own. His sighs resounded in her mind as she stared at her ceiling during the night. And often, since she’d woken up, she’d stop and think about him. She’d ridden him on the floor, and he’d taken everything she dished out and wanted more. For her first human BDSM relationship, she wadded in neck deep. She researched online about BDSM relationships and learned she’d claim him if he wanted her to. Collar him and then set the standards of whatever came afterward.

For a moment, she considered what kind of collar one would put on a human and if he might actually wear it. Maybe only at the club or in play. Parts of her discounted the notion because she loved nothing impeding her hands from his bare skin. Beautifully unmarred by accessories…but he also cut a nice suit.

She slammed the open book in her lap closed as the bus rattled along between taxis and tourist rigs. No point in pretending anymore. She’d read ten words since she opened it fifteen minutes prior, and three stops remained until she would exit the bus and trek the couple blocks to work. Cloris wanted her, and all of them, to use her car service, but most of them loved the independence and the ability to go about their day and live their own life. Even if they did spend most of their time together. She worried after Katherine though. The woman cared too much about others for her own good, and Bianca feared someone would take advantage of her gentle heart.

A man bumped against her as the bus hit a pothole. He grabbed the pole in front of her that aligned with the seats. All the seats were taken, or she’d have shifted to another one. She glared over at him to find him leering down her cleavage. If she were Scarlet, she’d make him hurt for the insult. Cloris would stare him down and make him regret his daring. If she were Katherine, she’d politely excuse herself to another area of the bus until departure and then forget about it. She glanced back at him as he continued staring, and she didn’t care. None of it mattered because a numb emptiness suffused her. Sitting on a bus full of humans, milling around, living their menial lives. The end of the world might be a favor to them. Give them something to fight for.

Her hands tingled with the power inside her. She shook them to try dissipating the sensation, but it didn’t work. The edge she’d worn off at the club returned with a vengeance. A reminder as that conquering power began to force its way back up again. The man shifted his hand and grazed her breast as he shifted it up the pole in front of the row of seats. Her control snapped and she grabbed his chin. For a moment, the lust in his eyes, and then behind it the disgusted dirty deeds he’d committed in his life, were all she could see. The way he used and abused women before tossing them away.

His voice broke the spell. “You know you want it.”

She leaned in and pressed her lips to his in barely the promise of a kiss, and shoved the raw power inside him. When she pulled away, she smiled and whispered against his mouth. “You will never touch another woman again. Every time you do your skin will itch and burn as if you caught fire.”

He shifted and attempted to break the grip she held on his chin. She wasn’t Cloris, Katherine, or Scarlet, but she was stronger than a human woman. She patted him on the cheek, before releasing him, and he flinched back with a pained expression.
The bus jerked to a halt and she parted the crowd to exit. Once the cool air hit her face, she realized the direction her mind drifted and stopped cold. She’d only seen Victor a couple days prior, and the time she spent with him kept the edge of the need to control at bay, but after two days without the power, it began to rise from the depths of her demanding to be used, demanding the respect. She sighed as a cold sweat sprouted at her temples. She began a heavy march toward the shop and started to wonder if working would be a bad idea. To be around customers and people making demands of her. That might not be a good mix to her already unpredictable powers. She reached into her pocket for her phone and hit one of her worker’s numbers. “Hey, Tina, it’s B. Do you mind taking my shift this afternoon?”

Excerpt

He tucks his wings into himself, but they are still so close I could touch them. He walks a small circle around me. Still a dance.

“That’s very different,” he says.

“I don’t see how. I am human. They are my people.”

He bends forward until his face is inches from mine. “Your mother had passed. You needed me. We’re allowed to appear when we are needed.”

His breath warms my cheek and it’s all I can do not to lean closer.

“Really?” My eyes search his for a sign—any sign—of feelings for me. “She died ten moons ago.” Did only pity bring him? “Why did you stay?”

A light breeze ruffles the leaves overhead. It’s warm but welcome. Michael backs away, the tops of his cheeks lit with pink. He swallows and his Adam’s apple jumps in his throat. “Perhaps I needed you.”

His voice is music, and his energy hums through me, making me bold. I couldn’t imagine him needing anyone, least of all me. With a smile, I glance at him and hold up the feathery filament. A small piece of his magic, its light sparkles and plays along my hand, the lines of his throat and jaw, the front of his tunic.

“If I return this,” I say. “What will you give me in exchange?”

“Well.” He frowns and thoughtfully strokes his chin, but his eyes are still smiling. “What do you want? Riches and jewels aren’t mine to command. I am but a humble servant.”

“Can you make it rain? It would be good for my father’s crops.”

“You know I cannot,” he scolds. “Doing so would be interfering.”

I do know, but enjoy the game, the way he looks at me as though he sees something hidden deep inside me, the secret of who I am.

“How about a kiss?” I ask.

He casts his gaze to the ground and bows his head. “Of course. A blessing.” He rests his hands on my shoulders, and even that light touch scorches me. White-hot like the sun.

Closing his eyes, he leans in to kiss my forehead, but I want a real kiss. Not the kiss of an angel, but of a lover. I rise to my toes, lifting my chin, and press my lips to his.

And on the morning of her sixteenth birthday, he is determined to finally reveal his heart to her. Instead David discovers Jane’s powerful secret. She just might be the woman of his dreams….

Maggie Heugan has her life all planned out, from her engagement to a handsome doctor, to her perfect nursing career. Then why does a chance meeting with a captivating stranger, have her questioning everything she has ever known?

Pro wrestler, Sean Miller is on a fast track to his destiny, until an unexpected injury derails his course. Now he can’t refrain from chasing the enticingly beautiful Nurse Maggie, when she just might hold the key to healing him in more ways than one.

For these two conflicted lovers, life spirals out of control, when Love collides with destiny.

EXCERPTS:
“Hold on, beautiful.” Sean grabbed her leg, and Maggie froze, looking down at his hand. His touch was hot against her thigh, and the long fingers wrapped above her knee made her shiver. Maggie sucked in a breath. Sean was holding her in an extremely inappropriate manner, one that should make her angry, not set her body on fire.

She locked eyes with him, and he offered her a wicked smile, as if he were completely on the same sizzling page. How could a man with a broken face manage to appear so devilishly handsome? Maggie shook her head and brushed aside his hand. “Let’s get a few things straight, Sean,” she said in a cold tone. “I’m never giving you a ride home, and I won’t tolerate you touching me again.”

“Got it.” Sean raised his hands above his head, showing her his immediate cooperation, and added, “About the touching part, at least.”

“Please, beautiful—”

“And that’s another thing.” Maggie placed her hands on her hips. “My name is not Beautiful, it’s Maggie. And I happen to be engaged, so you can cut the flirty games.”
Sean expression became bitter as he took that in before closing his eyes and moaning in pain. “If only I could open my pills.”

“Your pills?”

“Yes.” He squinted his eyes open, looking apathetic. “I can’t seem to open the medication my doctor prescribed.”

“Why not?” Maggie grabbed the bottle of pills off his lap and looked at them curiously. “This is the standard medicine bottle, easily opened by adults. I assume if you are capable of flirting with a strange woman, you are capable of opening a bottle of pills.”

“We’re not strangers anymore, Maggie,” Sean pointed out with another smile. “And flirting with someone as beautiful as you is easy. Opening a small bottle of pills while the world spins is not so easy.”
