Hell Within Walking Distance by Liza O'Connor #new_release #review

Hell Within Walking Distance
By Liza O’Connor
A Love Story
With Paranormal Events
This story takes place in 1980, when Hell’s Kitchen remained a dangerous place. As a young woman working in Manhattan, I was shocked how one block could make such a huge difference in your likelihood to survive. I traveled to NYC by train, so I had no option but to walk once I arrived at Penn Station. What I quickly learned was to stay far away from Hell’s Kitchen, for even in the early mornings it was NOT SAFE.

Cara faints on a subway and dreams that she wakes in the arms of an adoring husband. This charming, caring man soon claims her heart.
When she reawakens to her miserable life, the memory of her dream life gives her the courage to escape her tormentor. Newly discovered friends help her disappear by placing her in the household of a wealthy philanthropist who is determined to pull his beloved wife out of her coma.
When Cara realizes the philanthropist is her dream husband, she concludes she is to blame for his wife’s coma. Cara is determined to do whatever it takes to return his wife’s soul to her body, even if it kills her.

Excerpt
Cara stood at a crossroad. To her right, bleak tenement buildings towered over her. Graffiti-covered plywood nailed across the doors and broken out windows all screamed abandonment and heightened her sense of danger.
A few rusted car carcasses, stripped bare to their frames, remained on the sides of the street, blackened from fire. They looked as if giant dragons had attacked and eaten all but their iron bones: dragons that nested in the buildings, hiding in those gapping black windowless holes; dragons waiting for their next meal to walk down the road.
“Well?” Damon asked in a terse, annoyed tone that silently screamed once again that she wasn’t meeting expectations. “You do know how to get back to civilization, I hope.”
Cara looked to her left. This street possessed signs of life, but dangerous life. Predators lurked in the shadows. Sleeping neon signs hung from the buildings, quiet now, but later they would scream in bright blinking lights their messages: Sexy Girls…All Nude…Magical Massages.
While the signs presently slept, in the dark shadows of the doors and alleys she could see men huddled in nefarious business transactions. Cars crawled up and down the street while tired, drained women greeted them with forced smiles.
“We’re going to miss the R,” Damon complained, and without waiting for her to decide, he headed up the left road, his long legs forcing her to run to keep up.
“We’d better make the train, or I’m going to be most put out.”
She appreciated the quick, angry pace he set. When tourists, loaded with packages and money, wandered into the dens of hungry predators, missing a damn train was the least of their worries. Several of the men in the shadows watched her like wolves sighting deer as she trotted behind Damon. When they reached the end of the street, he stopped.
“Well?”
She stared at their choices. Nothing looked familiar. Either everything had changed since she was last here or... Fear paralyzed her. What if they were completely off course, moving away from the train station rather than toward it?

About the Author
Liza O’Connor has been writing books for most of her life. Only for the first ten years she didn’t show them to anyone. Then she joined a group called the Rom-critters and her she learned how to make her stories better.
Liza has published over 50+ books
Liza writes fiction, but all her books have a bit of her life in them. As strange as it sounds, Hell Within Walking Distance has much of her life within the story.
Liza is trying to publish a book a month, so more of her books can be published and read. Most of these books were written in her most creative years. But she is still writing new books as well. It just takes longer to write a new book, rather than to improve an already written book from her backlog.
She also writes in many genres, including: Historical and Contemporary Romance, Sci-Fi, Paranormal, Modern Western, Fantasy, Ghost stories, Humor, and more.

When life gives you lemons...make lemonade.

Cara has a horrible life. She's treated terribly and is unable to see a way to escape until she hits her head and dreams of a different life. When given the chance to escape, she ends up making her dream world--a reality.

Hell Within Walking Distance is a story about Hell's Kitchen but also about the hell within a young woman's life. She is forced to find a way to survive and in turn worries that she hurt someone else. I was cheering for Cara's happy ending. After all, who doesn't deserve love and happiness??

Ms. O'Connor's stories are compelling with characters who are flawed and realistic. Readers will want to keep reading into the night as they MUST find out how Ms. O'Connor's stories end.

Green Book is a movie sure to have you talking about it long after you walk away. I did some research because my own hometown was a sundown town and while I hadn't known it growing up, I've come to learn more about its history. Green Book has many uncomfortable moments which will have you squirming in your seat as you see first hand how racism impacted people. But it's a movie that will give you a feeling of hope that things continue to improve.

You can check out my review on my Movie Review Page. I'd love to hear your insights on Green Book. Did you enjoy it? What was the most moving part for you?

Blurb:

Three powerful men will ensure her submission…

Surrender is the lifestyle club where professional women seek alpha males to dominate and pleasure them. A concept Bree envisioned from the moment she fled her impoverished past. However, dreams don’t come easy. To fund her wanton Malibu club, she needs partners.

Enter Lucius, Tav, and Cody, three wealthy and imposing males who know what they want and that’s Bree, stripped and submissive to their will. Bad boy Lucius has billions but what’s money when the right woman isn’t at his side to pleasure him sexually, while he uses her in the most provocative ways. Laid-back Tav isn’t so easygoing between the sheets, his dominance irresistible. Cody’s an adrenaline junkie, enjoying extreme sports in and out of bed.

Hot and kinky play is on the sexual menu, pulling Bree deeper into a shameless fantasy that can’t possibly last. Until and unless she’s willing to offer her heart.

Excerpt:
Lucius pressed close, his thighs to hers, his hand cupping her neck. “Like this?”

He captured her mouth, their lips fitted perfectly, his bristly cheeks scraping hers, tongue plunging inside.

Gawd. She sagged against him, powerless to resist his strength, scent, and taste. Something minty but also unique, a flavor belonging to him alone.

She gripped his lapels, needing them to keep steady and to get closer. The moment she had, she ground indecently against him.

A breath couldn’t have slipped between them, her breasts crushed to his chest, not allowing her to inhale fully.

Who the hell needed air?

He deepened his kiss, taking rather than asking, using, enjoying, his roughness a thrill rather than something to worry about, and precisely the behavior she required.

Yet she still desired more.

Once she pulled the leather tie from his hair, she drove her fingers through his thick, silky locks.

A lusty grunt rose from deep within him.

She’d rarely heard a better sound.

He tempered his passion, gentling the kiss.

That was awesome too.

They enjoyed each other as she’d wanted from the moment they’d met, her feelings for him building each time he smiled at her or they shared laughter she’d tried to avoid, their friendship deepening despite her attempts to keep an emotional distance. During those empty days when she’d denied herself physical contact, she never would have believed a kiss could be so wondrous.

The world faded away, sounds retreating, leaving them clinging to each other, savoring closeness and intimacy.

Wasn’t enough. If possible, she would have crawled inside his mind, heart, and soul. Barring such nonsense, she stopped herself from coming on too strong.

He struggled for breath, the same as her, then pulled his mouth free and gulped air.

Lucky him. She couldn’t draw in enough to clear her head.

Tav slipped his arm around her waist and pulled her into him.

Whatever air she’d taken poured out and mingled with his, his mouth on hers, tongue slipping inside, his beard rasping her skin.

Her knees sagged, bumping into him, his fresh, woodsy scent surrounding them, bringing to mind a forest, reclining on fragrant grass, leaves floating down, sun winking through countless trees to bathe their naked flesh.

She wreathed her arms around his shoulders, wanting him as a shelter against doubt and everything bad.

Holding her in a firm but gentle embrace, he angled his mouth for greater penetration, his passion as deep as Lucius’s, yet also carefree. As if necking with her here was the most natural thing in the world, even though she’d kept her distance when they’d worked together. Not once sharing a meal unless they bumped into each other at lunch in the employee break room.

Those times had prepared her for now, their intimacy exciting yet comfortable and necessary.

Unable to resist, she pushed his tongue from her mouth and filled him instead.

Rather than protest, he allowed her to enjoy his clean flavor and suckled her deep.

She hadn’t expected anything less from him. Tav took life as it came, greeting whatever was in his path. For the moment, she was his sole focus and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

He eased her closer, his strength impressive yet subdued. His effort at containing it, making him tremble.

She wanted him as unleashed as Lucius would be.

And Cody.

He separated her from Tav.

“Hey, I wasn’t finished.” Tav shot him a look.

Cody shrugged. “You are now.” He grasped her wrist.

Surely, he wasn’t going to kiss it. He’d never seemed the romantic type to her.

And wasn’t now.

After he’d trapped her against the wall, he held her wrists above her head and cupped her breast.
Her nipples peaked, straining against her suit jacket.

He thumbed one rigid tip, his lime fragrance and sweet breath stoking her desire.

She wrapped her leg around his and pressed against him.

His grin spoke volumes. “Bad girl.”

“You think?”

“I know.” He brushed his lips over hers, their softness and heat striking, his smooth cheeks a balm, his tantalizing foreplay increasing her excitement.

Whoever thought wild monkey sex was the only way to go for a good time hadn’t experienced this.

Do You Love Strong Female Heroes? #new_release #Prodigy #kristy_centeno

1/14/2019

Picture
I love female characters who can kick butt. They are the ones who move the story. They fight the battles and stand up for what's right. They protect others and defend the weak. Strong female characters speak to something inside of us.

Kristy Centeno's women are strong. They face tough choices and still do the right thing. They may be scared but they come out swinging. They save the day!

Today, Prodigy- the final piece of the Giver of Life trilogy, releases. You will want to read this book. Leah is done being walked over. Now she will do what it takes to keep her daughter safe...even if it means giving up her own life.

BLURB:
Leah Parker’s fate had always been controlled by others—who she loved and who she lost. Five years after the tragic murder of her daughter’s father, she’s done everything in her power to protect her little girl from the outside world. But she’s rebelled against fate in the past and no act of defiance goes unpunished in the Enchanter community.

The ultimate power wants to correct the damage done by Jae and the only way they can do that is by getting rid of her special child—a child destined to replace all branches of Enchanter magic one day.

But, Leah isn’t willing to go down without a fight. She will do anything to save what Jae died to protect, even if she must turn against the Circle of Elders. But when her first love, Brandon Morris walks back into her life, Leah knows nothing will ever be the same again.

Leah must confront her past, before she and her daughter are erased from her family line. She must get over her guilt and rely on Brandon to ensure her daughter’s survival. But will the pain from their past destroy their friendship forever? Or will their old bond hold them together and carry them through what’s ahead?

EXCERPT:
“Brandon,” I whispered, my voice shaking with suppressed sobs. I cared so much for him, but there was no future for us. There never was. Like Dmitri said, making him believe otherwise would only harm him. I couldn’t do that to him. Or to my sister. “Emmaline loves you. I think you should reconcile. You should’ve never broke up with her—”

He came at me so fast there was no room for a reaction. He stood in front of me before I could blink twice. With a scowl on his face, he grabbed on to my arm and jerked me forward. I stumbled a few steps and was stopped by the wall of his chest. He released me, not touching me in any way, but he didn’t have to. The energy rolling off him was the same as having his fingers run all over my skin. I shivered at the thought.

I glanced up at him. I’d forgotten how tall he was. I was a like toddler standing next to him. He was so big, and strong, and…imposing. He had a physique that would intimidate anyone, but I knew he was anything but vindictive, cruel, odious. Brandon was a sweetheart underneath all those dark clothes, the black eyeliner, and ebony hair. He was warmness wrapped in a hardened exterior.

I dared not move an inch. Or even breathe. His jaw was set so firmly I worried his teeth would chip a good chunk off. His gaze roamed over my face, slowly, as if it was the first time he ever saw me. I was unsettled. Nervous. Yet, so conscious of our bodies molding together as if we were born that way.

A Talent for Trouble #new_release

I am excited to share with you a new release by Landra Graf. If you love bad boys, sexy heroines and an amazing story...you will love A Talent for Trouble!!

Blurb
:
Drug runner Emilio Morales is one deal away from being the sole runner from Earth to the upper planets—until his partner attempts a double-cross. Now, Emilio’s stuck in a disabled spaceship with an unpredictable, attractive female who’s willing to help him out if he’ll assist her in retrieving her ship from an impound facility.

Antonia ‘Toni’ Smith is sick and tired of being beholden to men. The only way to guarantee freedom is to get back her bootlegging ship to run her own business again. When Emilio kills her ticket out, she’s forced to rely on him for assistance. Emilio, the most wanted and annoying man in the solar system, is a sexy-as-hell means to an end.

But every plan the duo makes falls apart and every day they spend in each other’s company increases the tension between them.

With the death toll rising and their defenses low, can Emilio and Toni get the happy ending they want, without falling for each other in the process?

EXCERPT:
Emilio watched her like a hawk. “How the hell do you know how to do that?”

“I captain a ship. Most people don’t just get to run a vessel because they win it gambling.”

“So, you’ve heard of me?” He winked at her.

She groaned. “Yes, by reputation alone.”

“All good things?”

“If you call being a ladies’ man who attracts desperate, scar-loving station-clingers a good thing.” She left out the rumors of his bedroom prowess. Because she’d turned over a new leaf. No sex, no men and definitely no crazy stuff.

“I can tell from your expression you’ve heard other things.”

How easily he’d read her since the moment they’d faced off on Casa Manolo bugged her as well. She focused on the piloting. “Maybe that you won a fancy ship in a poker game.”

“Better to win one than lose one,” he replied.

The words stung, the sharp pain taking up residence somewhere in the center of her chest. Why am I attracted to him again? “You know what they say on Mars…can’t win big if you don’t risk big.”

“Mars girl, eh?”

Toni gave a single nod.

“Makes sense why you’re crazy.”

She wanted to take offense at his shocked tone, dismissive like so many of the men she’d met over the years. The way the upper planets still regarded woman as objects more often than as productive members of society drove her nuts. “Don’t let this dress fool you.”

“It’s doing everything but fooling me,” he retorted with a smirk.

Life on the Superstar Road #Country_Roads_Series #new_release

1/6/2019

Picture
Being married to someone who is on the road and away from home is a challenge. Even more so when there are children involved. During my marriage, my husband was working in another state and would only come home on the weekends. I became a single mother, making sure everything was running smoothly while he was away. The weekends were spent celebrating his return, cooking his favorite foods and doing fun things with the kids.

Our marriage was under stress. It could be challenging to get a hold of him and when there was a problem, I was often left to handle it alone. Just imagine how it would have been had my husband been in the limelight--a Country Superstar.

Grea Warner's Teardrop in my Eye brings to light the struggles that Finn and Lara deal with as his career takes off. Lara must juggle the house and the kids, doing everything alone. It's not easy. I've been there. I love how Ms. Warner's story draws the reader in. You experience all of Lara's emotions as she works to keep her life from falling apart. This is a must read!!

BLURB:
A teardrop sends out many ripples…

The road that Lara and Finn Murphy have taken together has been full of curves and bumps and foggy patches. But despite his demanding country music career and tragedies along the way, they found forever with each other. And now, with the addition of their two young children, their home is filled with even more love and joy.

But, when Finn goes on his summer tour without Lara and the kids, some of the pieces of their idyllic life begin to crumble. Lara struggles with who she is as an individual, especially after finding herself in a perilous situation. Their son, Chance, starts to act out because he is missing his dad. And Finn feels like he can’t protect any of them like he wants to.

Instead of it getting better upon the musician’s return, though, things only get worse. The couple, torn apart by false accusations and poor choices, must find a way to come together when heartbreaking news is revealed. Is there any way they can turn all the tears of sadness to ones of happiness?

EXCERPT:
As much as I hated it and as much as I resisted it, I couldn’t help it…I began to cry. Not a lot. Just a few simple, silent tears trickling down my cheeks.

Because it seemingly came out of nowhere, Finn was most perplexed. “What are you crying about?”

Damn wiping them away or playing his game of “nothing,” I thought. I laid it out. “Because you’re not telling me something. I know it. Please talk to me.”

“Aw, Lara…” He hated when I cried. He hated to see me hurting. And if it was so bad that I allowed myself to cry, he knew it was going to be hard to fix. “I’m anxious about the tour, that’s all,” he tried. “The long distance and the time away.”

Yes, it was almost as traditional as watching It’s a Wonderful Life at Christmas time. Finn would get cagey and worked up before hitting the road. And this year, he was going without me or the kids. We had decided that Arinn was still too young. And even though Chance had gone on tour with us months after his birth, now there were two kids. The compromise was to build in a mini-break mid-summer so he could return home.

Regardless, I knew the tour wasn’t the entire picture. “There’s more than that. There’s been something bothering you for a while now. I don’t know why you can’t trust me…why you’re not letting me in.”

“I trust you,” he answered immediately. But, he offered nothing else.
I didn’t either. If he trusted me, he would tell me. I just had to hold on. No omissions.

About the Author:
There really wasn’t any other path. Grea Warner knew from a young age that she wanted to write. She was born to write. First it was in diaries with little metal keys and in written tales that she slipped to friends in study hall. School newspapers, a college television drama, and internships in the soap opera world were next. After producing and writing a local show, she decided to delve into the world of the novelist. When her fingers aren’t tapping out her latest book filled with angst and romance, Grea can be found hiking the trails or jamming to her favorite country artists on the radio.

Blurb
Angel’s husband had barely left the country when the first attempt on her life occurred. Fortunately, Anna was at home and shot the man as he entered through a window that for some reason had been left open. Now a dead body chilled in the basement freezer.
Angel had always known this day would come. She had lived in fear of this day for the last five years. The terrorists had somehow discovered her identity. By the sounds of gunshots outside the house, she knew her nightmare was far from over. Any thought of her living a normal life from here-on wasn’t possible. God only knows what would happen to her and her children now.
Discover the new life of the extraordinary forensic auditor named Angel. She can locate improperly acquired money better than anyone. Unfortunately, that puts her and her children at serious risk.
Nor does her love life work nearly as well as her forensic abilities. Men are constantly using, then betraying her. Still, she remains positive and optimistic. Now that she is officially dead, living deep within a mountain, she hopes she and her children will be safe.
To her surprise, the biggest threat is not from criminals, but her husband, who has ordered her to be killed.

EXCERPT
While Sahid argued with Anna on their next move, Angel eased from the room and hurried to the basement as Anna had requested. Max had once told her in case of a security issue, Anna was in charge.
Once down the steps, Angel searched for someplace to hide. Damn it all! Why had her grandparents lived such a simple life? They never accumulated the mounds of junk that could have provided hiding spots.
All that sat in the large concrete basement was the recently updated oil tank and furnace needed to heat their house during the cold Virginia winters, an old futon, and a giant freezer, currently hosting the dead body of the man who attempted to enter the house through a second story window that had somehow been left open. She knelt to slide beneath the futon and yelped at the sight of a hand. The man was dead, but where had he come from?
The basement door opened and Sahid glared down at her. “I told you to…never mind. Just stay down there.” He then slammed the door shut, never giving her a chance to tell him about the second dead body.
She grabbed the edge of the futon, planning to move it away from the body, only hands gripped her mouth and waist and pulled her back into a hard body. She tried to twist out of the attacker’s grip, but he was too strong.
A low voice growled in her ear. “Angel, I’m Captain Logan, here to rescue you. We have your boys.”
She stopped fighting. She had no idea if he was really here to rescue her, but if he had her boys then she had no choice but to go with him.
“Where’s Anna?” he whispered. His question gave her hope this truly was a rescue.
“Upstairs, in Max’s office, I think. She’s going to put the house in lock down.” She recalled Anna telling Sahid the opposite. “Oh God! Anna must think Sahid is working for the terrorists.”
The basement door opened. The man released her and jumped beneath the stairs.
“Angel, you okay?” Anna asked. The tension in her voice was audible.
“Yes.”
“Try to find a place to hide,” Anna advised and closed the door.
Before she could follow Anna’s advice, the captain gripped Angel by the waist and rushed her to the south end of the basement where the furnace stood. He opened a panel and motioned for her to enter.
The face of another man stared up from what should have been solid ground. Evidently Max had a tunnel dug to her house. At least she hoped it was Max who’d done this. While both men had the hardened eyes of soldiers, she sensed no hate in them. They genuinely seemed to be rescuing her.
But she needed one promise from the captain before she could go. “Rescue Anna. She’s still upstairs.”
The captain’s eyes nailed her with a frightening intensity. “If you’ll leave with my man, now, I’ll see to Anna.”
