My Wolf Cowboy By Rose Wynters Genre: Paranormal Romance, BBW Romance Wolf Town Guardians – Born to walk this world as both wolf and human, these men take their role as protectors very seriously. Enjoying sensual pleasures as they please, this group of alpha werewolves are the finest when it comes to protecting their hidden settlement. Guardians are the masters of self-control, taking pride in their authority and hard, muscled bodies. That all changes at the first scent of their mates. Their control snaps. The mating heat begins. This is their stories. To claim his mate, Connor will have to break all of the rules… It’s a good thing rules were made to be broken. Connor Bouchard is a werewolf with a huge secret. He’s mated, but he’s done everything he can to avoid claiming her. But the wolf that lives within him has had enough. And even if it means war, this alpha cowboy will have his mate. Natalie Miller spent her entire life living on the Amish settlement in Missouri. Her world was safe… Until the night everything exploded in her face. She learns that nothing about her life was what it seemed… Even her. In a fiery blaze of horror, secrets are revealed… And an enemy of old comes back into play. Forced to accept Connor’s protection, Natalie refuses to indulge in the attraction that lies between them. She didn’t count on the heat, though. It burns within her as she craves a satisfaction that she never needed before. Natalie finds herself wanted by two men, both of them willing to fight to the death to have her. Only one of them is destined by fate to have her, though. Connor has to seduce her, the sooner the better. The full moon is quickly approaching, his opponent determined to possess his mate. Can Connor tame this wild filly before it’s too late? He stopped in front of a stall. A horse watched them warily, her body locked in place. She was a gleaming shade of dark chestnut with a white star on her forehead. There was something almost vulnerable about the horse, something that touched Natalie deeply. “She’s beautiful, Connor. What’s her name?” “Her name is Star,” he replied, staring at Natalie. “And she’s yours.” “What do you mean?” She gasped out, staring between him and the horse. “This is my surprise?” “Indeed it is.” Connor looked at the horse with a frown. “She’s a rescued horse. Her previous owners treated her horribly. It’s a wonder that she even survived, but she did. Star is resilient, but she’s not able to trust anyone. When I heard about her, I knew she needed you.” He stopped to look down at her, his expression unreadable. “Even more, I think you need her.” “Thank you, Connor,” Natalie said, her voice trembling. She was touched by his gift, more so than words could say. Overcome by it all, she surprised them both when she hugged him. His arms wrapped around her quickly, holding her tight. A long moment passed, and then another. In her mind, she fit perfectly within the shelter of his arms. She wondered if Connor felt the same. “You’ve got to be shitting me,” a male’s voice interrupted them, his tone loud and incredulous.“Connor, even in the barn? Really?” He sounded disgusted as he added, “This man ought to be neutered. It’s not safe to let him roam the streets, woods, or even barns. Once he was even caught messing with one of Alexander’s maids, and you want to know what’s worse? He was wearing red lipstick.” Natalie jerked away from Connor. She was mortified by the other man’s words. Peeking past Connor’s large frame, she saw a large Native American male standing about twenty feet back. He was with a pretty blonde female who looked extremely exasperated. He had to be another guardian, his size and demeanor left no doubts in her mind to his identity. Connor rolled his eyes and smirked before turning around to greet him. “Oh, hell,” he drawled out in a mocking tone of voice. “So Marrok is back and looking just as grouchy as he always did. What’s the matter, old boy? Did you piss your mate off on the honeymoon and get your sorry ass thrown out in the doghouse?” Buy Links: Amazon Barnes and Noble All Romance eBooks Rose Wynters is the author of the Wolf Town Guardians series, the Territory of the Dead series, and the Endurers series. Do you base any of your characters on real people in your life? Absolutely! My younger brother died over twenty years ago, and because he is still in my heart, naturally I made him the hero of Smash. They have roughly the same qualities except the age and their love relationships lol! I based Melissa, heroine of Smash, on an avatar that I thought represented me perfectly well. She is mini-me and we get along really well! Other major characters, Stacey (which I’m writing her story as I’m typing this) is based on a friend and her love interest John. John was a surprise as I didn’t base anything on him, except I knew he had to be different to David and Stacey. Researching him was fun! How do you research for "steamy" parts of the book? I read a lot! Everything from erotic to erotica, fiction and writing references gave me some inspiration, otherwise I just think how it would work, picture it in my mind and go from there. I make my sex scenes fun, or see how sexy I can get it. I try to push the limits each story and sex scene I write. How long did it take you to write the book? I started writing it in June and it was completed in August. Then just the editing took the longest of 4 months. How do you motivate yourself to write? Since writing is my job, I treat it as such, I get up at the same time every day, take Cody (my puppy) for a walk, sit at my laptop and write. Depending on deadlines, I will either make sure I write or edit X amount of pages, or words. My writing process is I write down on a blank page what is going to happen in each chapter, I then do a bit of research on things I’m not 100% sure about, find pics that would suit my characters and start writing. That process can take up to a day or two, then no excuses I sit and write. What are you working on next? I’m currently working on Stacey’s story - Smash 2. I’m also working on other short stories which I hope to self publish in the future. What was your favorite book as a child? Do you think it influenced what you read or write now? I love any books that made (and make) me escape, fiction always. As for a fave book as a child, I can’t answer that as I don’t remember, but now, anything with a happy ever after is my fave =) The book that got me into reading and writing was Maureen Child - A Crazy Kind Of Love. After reading that novel, I grabbed one of her Harlequin novels and after reading that, I wanted my name next to hers on a book. That is a dream still, though with what I currently write, I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon! Smash by Susan Child Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance Can a vampire and a human find love, or will the rules of his society tear them apart? When Melissa Waters attends the opening of Smash, a newly renovated nightclub, she meets a man who will change her life forever. David thought his time with Melissa would just be a one-night stand, but he can't get the beautiful redhead off his mind. He wants more. But she's human. David's father, the king of the vampires, will never allow them to pursue a relationship. He will stop at nothing to ensure that his son mates with another vampire. When he abducts Melissa, David is in a race against time to locate her and save her life. Content Warning: contains graphic sex and explicit language David got up from the bar and walked to the shadows so he could watch the beautiful redhead. He looked at her with a growing need to shelter her from the club. More importantly, what and who was in the club. He'd never felt this way before. What was it about this woman? She was human for gods' sake! Why did he feel this primal pull toward her? He nearly smiled as she looked over her shoulder at the bar to find he was no longer there. At least he knew he wasn't the only one affected by what was between them. When she looked back to the man sitting at the table with her, David wanted it to be him that she was looking at. Was the guy her boyfriend? At the thought David felt a growl coming on…she was his. His imagination ran wild as he started to picture his hands running through her shiny, wild red hair. How her head would tip up to look at him. Her mouth would part as her eyes closed, and he would lean over to have a taste of her neck. Slowly, his elongated fangs would draw softly over her pulse and she'd shudder, exposing her neck and giving him better access. It wasn't until after she graduated that she caught the reading bug. She had to go to a bookstore to sell off her textbooks and a particular book caught her eye. This book stood out from the other second-hand books because it had a pink cover. It was only a couple of dollars, so she thought Why not? But she couldn't quite bring herself to read her bargain book. It had a pink cover! Then, after it tormented her for three weeks, she finally picked it up and…could not put it down. She finished it in two days. After googling the author Susan found that she'd written a heap of books for Harlequin Mills & Boon as well as Single Titles. So of course Susan had to buy all her other books. And when she realised that there were other Mills & Boon authors out there, she just had to search out their books too. And she loved them! Susan got a ton of inspiration from those books. But the most important thing she realized was that she wanted to write those books too. She wanted to be a paranormal author! College isn’t as easy as I thought it would be, especially with my best friend Evan becoming someone I hardly recognize. But then I met Gabe. He changed everything. My life will never be the same. Gabe I lived my life day to day, waiting for something great to happen. Then she walked into the coffee house, with her long legs and killer smile. I had to know her. Nothing was going to stop me. She hypnotized me from the moment I laid eyes on her. And after the first kiss, my fate was sealed to Paisley. Content Warning: This book is recommended for ages 17 and up. Adult situations, including sex, underage drinking, and drugs will be found within these pages. Kristy and I found ourselves a corner. I sipped a little more of my beer, finally getting the bottle a little more than halfway gone. Nursing the drink probably wasn’t the best idea, but as long as I kept this in my hand, I didn’t feel like such a loser. Maybe my friends were right. It was time to quit taking the easy route. I needed to have fun. “Who is that hot guy? I think he’s checking you out.” Kristy poked my side. I followed her gaze. Gabe. “Go talk to him.” She pushed me. “I, uh, I already did.” Her eyes lit up. “Seriously? Well, who is he?” I shrugged. “I met him before work at a coffee shop. He stared at me the whole time. Then tonight, when he got here, he watched me like he is now.” I should feel self conscious, but I didn’t. “As I waited for you, he came and talked to me, but Evan chased him away. To be honest, he’s freaking me out a little.” Kind of, but he intrigued me so much more. “He can’t keep his eyes off of you.” She was right. Even as he spoke to the guy with him, his eyes never left me. My heart raced. I honestly didn’t know what to think. It wasn’t like I’d never dated before. I’d had a few boyfriends in high school, but nothing serious. “Go talk to him,” Kristy pressed. “Who?” Evan showed up at just the right time. Go figure. “No one,” I said quickly. “She’s being silly. That guy.” Kristy pointed. Great, now he knew we were talking about him. “She needs to stay away from him.” Evan put his arm around me again, only now he put a little more weight against me. If I didn’t think he’d fall, I’d have moved. Kristy stared at Evan’s arm a moment then asked, “Why? He’s hot.” “I don’t know. But my roommate says he’s trouble.” Of course he was. He parked his bike wherever he wanted. “I need to use the restroom. Hold my drink.” I handed it to Kristy. I wandered around the house. It was two stories, surely they had a restroom down here, but I didn’t find one. I headed up the creaky stairs. Sounds of groaning welcomed me at the top, making me giggle. Some people were having a lot of fun. After using the restroom, I checked my appearance in the mirror. I turned by head back and forth. Maybe I did need to let my hair down. Tugging the elastic out, I let my long locks fall over my shoulder. I fluffed it with my fingers. The crease wasn’t so bad, and besides, more than half the people here were drunk. They weren’t going to care how my hair appeared. I left the bathroom and stopped in my tracks. Leaning against the opposite wall was Gabe. “Uh, hey again.” I grinned awkwardly. “Having a good time?” “I guess.” A girl walked up wobbly, holding the wall the whole way. She pushed me out of the way, slamming the bathroom door. Now I stood close to him. Near enough I could touch him if I wanted. “You sure that guy isn’t your boyfriend?” I nodded. “Positive.” “He comes across like he is.” His blue eyes bore in to mine. “Well, he isn’t. Why would I lie?” He shrugged. “Walk with me.” I glanced around. We were upstairs, and there wasn’t anywhere to go. I knew once I went down stairs and Evan saw, he’d stop us. “It’s not a good idea.” “Why?” I leaned closer to him, inhaling his intoxicating scent and said, “From what I hear, I should stay away from you.” He chuckled. “Is that so? And what do you think?” I think I should see where he wants to take me, but I didn’t say that. “I don’t know you.” “Then get to know me. Come on. One little walk. What could go wrong?” The bathroom door opened and the drunk girl reemerged. “Awesome party!” I laughed and watched as she concentrated on walking. Poor girl. I hoped she made it down the stairs. “So?” He raised an eyebrow. It was tempting. Take a walk with him, talk, get to know him, and find out why everyone thought he was trouble. “I think I’m going to pass.” The cutest smirk I’d ever seen appeared on his face. “Paisley, you’re really going to make me work, aren’t you?” The sound of my name on his lips was like music. “How did you know my name?” That was stupid, he could’ve asked someone. “From the coffee shop when you got a drink.” “Oh, yeah.” He reached out and brushed a lock of hair from my face. My breath caught when his fingers lightly touched my skin, and I swear every nerve was on end. “I like a good challenge.” He walked away, leaving me standing there, speechless. Ooohhh... A series about wolf shifters! Don't forget to enter the contest below! Wolf's Strength Genre: Paranormal Tension grows between old rivals... Cold-blooded murder sparks a feud that could lead to the deadliest civil war in Pack history. Alpha Devin Caedmon and his council are tempted to risk all that is precious to protect their bloodline. Tristan Arnou, the rival Pack's leader, isn't the only force trying to tear down the unity holding them together. All threats must be eliminated before their entire race is destroyed. Forbidden love burns like a wildfire... There is one woman who Blake DeLuca loves more than anything else: Naomi Valentine. Despite the escalating battle and power struggles among their leaders, the erotic fire between these two lovers has yet to be extinguished. Naomi's heart belongs to Blake, but her allegiance lies with Arnou. She's left with two choices...assume her duty or accept Blake's eternal bond? In Wolf's Strength secrets are exposed, and memories that were buried long ago have resurfaced. The game of deception is a deadly one. There can be no peace until the bloodshed ends. “Why, Naomi? Why do we have to go on like this?” She swallowed. “There are a million reasons why, and you’re aware of every single one of them.” “Let’s run away. Somewhere far…and then we won’t have to worry about it.” That had been the plan when they were young, but now they were adults with important responsibilities. “Stop talking nonsense. You know that’s impossible. You have your duty and I have mine.” As she said this, she glimpsed a bit of remorse in his eyes, but there was something strange mixed with it. “You’re different. Your eyes are…” “Then the news hasn’t reached your Pack?” he inquired. “There are traitors among Arnou. Tristan and his Council are selective about whom they share information with.” She peered across the other side of the building, sensing her brothers had not left the area. “I have to go.” “Wait!” He tightened his grip on her hand and lifted a brow. “What do you mean traitors?” She nodded. “Real traitors. Apparently, vital secrets were released about Arnou’s plan for our Pack. Tristan has interrogated many suspects. He threatens the life of any who cross him.” Blake’s nose flared and his fingers tightened on her waist. “Get out before it’s too late.” “It is too late,” she said firmly. “Back to the subject. What news are you referring to?” “I don’t want you concerned.” “Really? Or is it because you think word will reach Arnou after you’ve told me?” Blake grinned but only for a split second. “Trust me, your leader knows what happened. Maybe he’s ashamed to admit his failure to his followers.” “What failure?” In that moment his eyes grew red and he stared at her under heavy dark eyelashes. She tried to pull away, but his firm hold on her prevented them for parting. “What’s been missing for centuries that both Alphas want?” Naomi narrowed her eyes. “They both want absolute power of the North American territories. But what do you mean? What has been missing?” “It’s been so long, but have you forgotten already?” He lowered his voice as he spoke this time. “As an Elite we’re handpicked to guard the Alpha, eliminate his threats, and clean up after his messes. I’m not paid, nor do I make it my priority to delve into anything else.” “Ah…is that so? You and I both know you don’t follow Arnou’s rules to the T.” He slid his nose against the side of her neck, causing her to shiver against him. “I’m a threat to your leader and the pledge you made to him, am I not?” Naomi bit her bottom lip as Blake’s canines replaced his nose against her throat. “Just tell me what the fuck you’re talking about. What is missing?” His manhood hardened against her belly. “What should I do with that naughty mouth of yours, huh?” He pressed his hot tongue against her pulsing jugular. Her knees buckled as he released the pheromones from his tongue and awakened her wolf. It was his way of marking her internally, and her hungry pores absorbed all of it. “Tell me,” she urged. “I—” A long howl from the distance startled them both. It was Nathan warning her she needed to hurry. “Come with me—permanently,” Blake demanded without releasing her. “And you’ll know everything.” “No.” She pulled out of his embrace. “I have to go before someone discovers us. Why are you still here? You’ll get caught too.” “I know the sheriff downstairs. We’ll handle the cover up.” “Must be nice to have ranking in the human world.” His lips spread into a smile. “The sheriff isn’t humankind.” “Figures.” Caedmon royalty had connections like that inside as well as outside the shifter world. It almost made her think they had more of a chance than her Arnou leader. Blake frowned. “How do you expect me to protect you from so far away?” “You left me years ago.” She pointed at his chest. “You should have thought about that before you made that decision.” “Don’t…” He tried to reach her, but she continued to back away. “You still want to use that against me? We agreed to a plan years ago. You didn’t follow through.” She swallowed. He was right. At the last minute she’d all but betrayed him. “I would go with you, but just like it was years ago, there is more than my life at stake.” ******** Wolf’s Desire (Caedmon Wolves, 4) When Keira becomes a widow, she realizes that the life she once had wasn’t normal after all. His words were enunciated slowly as she gripped the edge of the sink, pressing her back into the hardness…it was no good, she couldn't go back any further. "Uh-huh." Daisy cleared her throat, trying to eradicate the huskiness present every time she'd spoken to him that morning. Micah's eyes narrowed. "What's wrong, Daisy?" "Nothing." She licked her lips. "Yes, there is. Are you regretting last night?" She swallowed, but her throat was bone dry. "Last night." She sucked in a breath as he stood in front of her and his hands landed on either side of her with a thud, coming to rest on the countertop. "Have you got a boyfriend?" She shook her head. "No." "Keep it that way." "Pardon me." "Don't go looking for one…we have unfinished business." She lifted her hands and pushed at his hard chest, which of course was a complete waste of time. "Now look here, you can't tell me what to do." "Yes, I can." He kissed her hard, short, and succinct, and the power behind it made her knees tremble. "No, you can't. If I want to go out and find a man, I will." She spoke defiantly with her chin held high, but it was lost in the fact that her chin only came up to his chest, and she had to strain further to look him in the eye. Her fingers tingled at the heat emanating from him. The smooth cotton of his shirt was soft to the touch, and his heartbeat was strong as the beat echoed against her fingertips. "I don't think so." "Excuse me." She pulled her head back and looked at him. "Don't start thinking that you can bed someone else." Her cheeks heated as she tried to push him away. "What the hell? You can't tell me who I can go to bed with…you hardly know me, and you most certainly don't have the right." "After last night…you do want me, and if I hadn't stopped we would have been in that bed together. I would've made you forget whatever it is that has made you lose your confidence. You're one of the sexiest, most beautiful women I've ever met, and when I do what I have to…I'm going to show you exactly how much I really want you." "That's just arrogant." His smile was slow and sexy, and she was pretty sure that had he not been holding her up she would've glided to the floor in a stream of unbridled lust. His hardness was pressed against her stomach. "Arrogant?" He shook his head. "No, that's not justifying the way I feel, but I'm confident you feel the same way." "You think so, huh?" When she'd offered him a bed last night he'd refused. He kissed her again, a little slower this time. Their kisses were hotter than a sauna on a cold day. She could hear the baby in the background, but it was as if she was a distant voice. He parted from her just enough to speak and she watched his lips move. They were sexy, and she had to push herself to listen to what he was saying. "I have to fly out today. I have a meeting tomorrow I need to be at, but when Amy goes down for her nap, we need to talk. I need to tell you why I'm here." She frowned as his words penetrated her sex-befuddled mind. "What do you mean why you're here? I thought it was something to do with a golf course?" "Actually…that was a lie." "I knew there was something not quite right about that. If a golf course was going to be built I would've known. Jeez, you can't sneeze on this island without everybody knowing before you've even finished." She narrowed her eyes. Something was definitely going on. She pushed him away, catching him off balance. * * * * The look of worry that crossed her features made Micah want to kick himself. He hadn't meant to say anything, but damn it all to hell, he didn't seem to have much control over anything when she was around, including speech. He was trained to take all kinds of torture and not say a word, and now he only had to look at her and he was like some dribbling teenager. "Daisy, I'm–" Before he could get his words out the frantic tone of her voice stopped him. "You're from them, aren't you?" She leaned over, lifted Amy up from her chair and wrapped her arms around the baby. "You can just go back and tell whoever it is you work for that I don't have it…zilch…zitto, and even if I did, you wouldn't get a dime from me." Travel and work take a toll on Marcy and Paul’s marriage, bleeding the passion out of a once loving relationship. One day, Paul decides he’s had enough. He takes Marcy on a weekend trip to rekindle their romance and won’t take no for an answer. Marcy’s sick and tired of Paul’s constant travel and the wedge it drives between them. Depression skyrockets her weight, so she’s surprised when Paul wants between her thighs all weekend – over and over again. Can she put aside her fears and reach for what she wants so badly before this second chance at love slips right out of her hands? After hiking a few miles through trees and mud and ferns, he spread out the blanket in a nice soft, secluded spot, laid her on it and plopped down next to her. Rolling onto his side, he kissed her, his tongue delving deep into her mouth. She locked her lips around his tongue and sucked. Down below, her panties grew moist as Paul speared her mouth repeatedly and moaned. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and tugged him closer. God, she’d missed this. Seconds later, he pulled his lips from hers. “Take your shirt off.” She gasped “Here? What if somebody sees us?” Paul raised one eyebrow. “We didn’t see one person on the way in, and besides, I don’t care. I want you. Here, now.” His dark fingers went to work on the buttons of her shirt. When he had them all undone, he spread the material wide. His hands slid below the fabric of her bra to palm her ample breasts. Marcy was already embarrassed, but somehow the daylight and the unusual circumstance had her sweating bullets. How long had it been since they’d made love with the lights on, much less au natural? She desperately wished she was skinnier. Paul’s hands slid her bra down and she laid her own hands over his, stopping him. “Paul, I’m not sure about this.” “Shh. I love your breasts this big. Let me see them.” He reached behind, unhooked her bra and slipped it off. Her creamy, large breasts spilled out, the nipples semi-hard. She felt naked, exposed. But when his large hands covered them and squeezed, some of her nervousness ebbed. He lowered his mouth and sucked on one, then gave it a little bite. The scrape of his teeth tightened the bud and sent tingles from her breast to her pussy. He nibbled again, then gave the other nipple the same attention. “Paul.” Oh God, her pussy was already wet. She opened her legs and writhed underneath his possessive caress. “Yes, baby. I want you to touch your breasts. Hold them, squeeze them while I get us undressed.” She gulped and put her hands on her breasts. “Like this?” “Yeah. Pinch the nipples. Harder.” Paul took his shirt off and tossed it aside, revealing a taut six-pack stomach. How the hell he kept in such great shape while on the road she didn’t know. Her man was as gorgeous today as the day she’d married him. Jamie Shultzer's life is in a tailspin. Her husband has left her for another man, and to top it off, she's stranded on a desolate highway in the middle of Nebraska. The last thing she needs is another complication, especially when it shows up as the tall, sexy as hell, and much too young for her, Mark Adams. Though to be fair, he's only ten years too young, and she has to find some way to repay him for rescuing her. Mark wants to be the good guy and leave Jamie alone. After all, her son is his friend and Jamie is in the middle of a divorce. But he's been smitten with her since the first time he laid eyes on her years ago. Now that she's available, it's hard to say no to her sweet tasting lips, and even harder to walk away from her willing body. Is this the start of something wonderful, or a disaster in the making? Content Warning: contains graphic sex and explicit language Jamie's car rolled to a stop by the curb in front of her home. Mark hopped out and started undoing the chains that he’d attached to the undercarriage of her vehicle. She got out of the truck and stared at the dark front porch. It looked so vacant and unwelcoming. "Don't drive it until you fill it with coolant." Mark gave the hood of her car a pat. "Or at least water." "Okay, where do I put said coolant or water?" In the glow of her security light, Mark gave her a grin that could be called nothing less than dashing. Crooked, with the adorable dimple that she remembered when he'd made a brief appearance at her son's college graduation party. He walked past, a little too close, and his body brushed hers. He smelled of clean wet earth. The black t-shirt he wore fit the play of toned muscle beneath it to perfection. Jamie licked her lips; she'd like to approach him like a popsicle. Lick him head to toe and back up again. They'd seemed to have shared a moment of chemistry while driving back to her place. She grasped onto the way Mark had looked at her. The way a man looks at a woman he desperately wants to kiss. Jamie couldn't remember the last time she'd experienced such a feeling. It'd been startling and she'd panicked. Mark reached inside and popped the hood before walking to the front of her car. "Come over here." His voice was low, gravelly, seductive, and she floated toward his command like a moth to a flame. She'd come anywhere, and anytime, with him. Bad porn music started to play in her head. Bom chica wow wow. She squeezed her eyes shut. Good God, she would be in the middle of a messy divorce soon, what the hell was wrong with her? "You'll want to put it in here." He pointed to a part of the engine that looked like a square plastic container. Her head was swimming; lack of oxygen most likely. Her blood had rushed south to her naughty regions. "Okay." Her voice squeaked, and she cleared her throat. "You don't want to fill it to the top, her unit can't take that. Just put it to here." Oh, come on! The double entendres were killing her. She couldn't help but notice his long, strong fingers. Long fingers might mean a long… "Uh-huh, great." She bit into her top lip until it stung. "So, that should be it." He dropped the hood and brushed his hands together. "Do you need anything else, Mrs. Shultzer?" It was an open-ended question on his part that left Jamie with way too many answers. She blinked and then focused her gaze once more. He was still there. Her pulse quickened. Her heart hammered in her chest. Slowly, she stepped around the wooden rocker and silently crossed the porch to the entrance. Just to the right of the steps she stopped, placed her hand around the carved porch post and leaned into it, her cheek resting against its smooth and cool painted exterior. Her gaze never left his, and his followed hers as she moved. Inhaling deeply, the misty air hung heavy in her throat. Claire held her breath for a moment and then slowly and silently let it out, trying to clear her mind of the haze. The nearly full moon provided a shaft of light, perfectly illuminating the man. Waves beat steadily against the shore behind him, an ever-present drone in her ears. Funny, she thought. The sound used to drive her crazy, now it was barely noticeable. The wind pushed cloud cover in front of the moon’s beam and again she searched the night for a glimpse of him. There! He’s closer. Definitely closer. She jumped and fought panic. Her heart skipped a beat. The first night he had stood at the foot of the lighthouse, barely a specter against the illuminated white. The next night he’d ventured nearer, away from the lighthouse. Now he stood barely twenty yards away, slowly walking toward her on the boarded walkway leading to the steps of her porch. An image of a man. A hologram of sorts. A ghost? Her imagination run amok? He fascinated her. Too far away—always too far away to see his eyes—but she knew they were black as pitch, rimmed with clear bright whites. He stood tall, with his fists placed on either hip. His broad stance was solid, roped with muscle. His hair was long, silky, and as black as his eyes. Soft. She could feel the texture on her fingertips. How? She didn’t even know what, or who, this man was. But she knew these things about him. Somehow. He stepped forward. The night breeze ruffled his loose, white shirt, opened halfway down his chest. The wind lifted and swirled her silk nightgown around her legs, and she wondered if the sight of it aroused him, as the glimpse of his bare chest aroused her. She hugged the porch post as he took a step closer. And then another. Her spine prickled with fear as well as curiosity and anticipation. Oh, God. He’s coming closer. Claire locked her gaze with his, stepping away from the post and backing across the porch until her rear bumped into the screen door. He stopped and stared. Mesmerized by his gaze, she felt a mystical pull, some sort of power emanating from him, propelling her closer. That push-pull rivaled the fear she felt in her heart. He took another step forward. With each step his body became more solid. More real. Claire shifted sideways and grasped the cold doorknob behind her. Too close. A soft ocean breeze blew a dark strand of hair across the man’s face, and suddenly she felt compelled to stroke it from his eyes. She wanted to reach forward, caress his temple, peer into those dark eyes…. She released the doorknob and took a half step forward. He stood still. She stepped forward once more— But before she could continue, clouds passed in front of the moon, leaving her in total darkness. She stood, waiting, the connection broken. Her chest heaved in anticipation. Her pulse raced. Her breathing came in short, shallow gulps. She waited, but when the wind-whipped clouds passed out of the moon-glow’s path, she saw that he had vanished. Nothing but empty black night filled the open space between her cottage and the lighthouse. Nothing. Had he ever really been there? Claire shook her head and blinked. Without fear, and with her heart beating a rapid tattoo, she rushed off the porch steps, turning in circles, her eyes straining through the night, searching. “Come back here!” she yelled. “Who are you?” But the night swallowed her plea. Only the ocean winds heard her call. * * * * * * Whether writing traditional contemporary romance or building paranormal worlds, bestselling romance author, Maddie James, pens stories that frequently cross a variety of romantic sub-genres. Enjoy an excerpt: “Well, how is it supposed to go?” Micah demanded. “Don’t you know how to work a car seat?” “Why would I know? I’ve never had a baby. You’re the one who’s supposed to be mechanically inclined. Why can’t you figure it out?” “I sure wouldn’t have designed this ridiculous contraption in a way that’s impossible to hook in the car.” “Oh, wait,” Alice gasped, remembering something she should have recalled earlier. “I think it’s supposed to face the other way.” “That can’t be right.” Micah turned the carrier as she’d indicated. He was bending over into the car, and he looked just as hot and frustrated as she felt. “Why would they make the poor babies look at nothing but the back of the seat?” “I don’t know. Maybe it’s safer or something. Let’s just try it. Maybe the belt goes through like this.” Micah fed the belt through the grooves, and the buckle got stuck at one point. “Shit,” he muttered, trying to free the belt. “Shit.” Then he glanced up at her. “Sorry.” “You don’t have to keep saying sorry,” she replied, slightly snippy. “I’ve heard worse, you know.” “I know that. But do you really think I should be teaching her bad language this early?” “She can’t even talk yet.” “Well, she can hear.” “Fine,” Alice grumbled, tilting the carrier slightly to make room for Micah’s run of the belt. “Watch your language then.” He gave her a cool glare, but it changed when Alice was able to snap the seatbelt closed. They both tested the carrier to make sure it was stable, but they couldn’t get it to move more than an inch, no matter how they tugged on it, so they assumed it would do for the short ride to Micah’s house. Alice sighed in relief as she finally climbed out of the car and walked around to the driver’s side. Micah was leaning against the car, wiping sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. He looked exhausted, defeated somehow. Despite her annoyance just the moment before, she felt another pull of sympathy. She reached out to put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s going to be all right.” “Is it?” he asked, opening his eyes to meet hers. “Yeah. We’ll figure this out. We don’t know anything yet.” “But what if she’s mine? What if her grandparents really doesn’t want her? What if I’m the only parent she has? I can’t even manage to get her strapped into the car.” ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. I went to him, the grass wet and cool against the soles of my bare feet. In a moment, he knew my presence though I had not uttered a word. He held out his hand to me and together we stood watching the moon reflect on the silent water below us. The Blog Affair Alissa Baxter Chick Lit/Contemporary Ubuntu line from Decadent Publishing Escape to Africa 246 pages BLURB: Twenty-something, white, South African Emma Bradshaw has a pattern of falling for unsuitable men and starts a blog about these so-called âserial datistsâ. Her search for new beginnings takes her to Cape Town, where she gets a job working for sexy author, Nick Reynolds. Romance with her boss is a no-no, but slowly, Nick works his way around her defenses. Trust him, or not, especially with her awful track record with men? When an anonymous male reader of the blog challenges her on her ideas about the male species, Emma realises she must confront her past and find her true self before she can move forward...and love can blossom again in her future. Excerpt: Damn him. Damn him. Damn him. Like a bad apple, he just had to pop up in her new home. Sheâd left Durban to escape him, and here he was, back again, tormenting her as ever. Awful enough that memories of him were with her all the time, without him turning up in the flesh. And what flesh it wasâ¦. âYou had a good time in Italy?â she inquired. Phil nodded. âGreat. Well, I have things to do. Bye.â âRunning away, Em?â Emma, who had starting walking toward the door, stopped in her tracks and turned around. âIâve moved on, Phil.â âYou mean youâve moved away. You havenât moved on.â âWhat makes you so sure?â Phil gazed into her eyes before looking down at her mouth, and Emma swallowed hard. He always made her insides twist into knots, and the fact she couldnât bear to be in the same room with him for even five minutes clearly showed she hadnât moved on. She had to put him behind her, though, and stop allowing him to upset her equilibrium to the degree he did. But as she studied his once-loved face, she let out a tiny sigh. How did you just move on and forget someone? Especially when youâd once believed that someone was the love of your life? She stood immobile for a long moment. Then, without a word, she turned around again and walked out of the room. * * * * * AUTHOR BIO: Alissa Baxter was born in South Africa, and grew up with her nose in a book on a poultry and cattle farm. It sounds like you have an interesting life. Now on to some personal questions. If you could go back in time to when you were seven years old, what wisdom or advice would you pass on to yourself? Don't stand on the corner of your street and tell all the cars that go by to "F*" off. Especially when the last vehicle turns out to be your dad. *shakes head* I bet you ate soap for that one. For what are you grateful? My health. If I didn't have that nothing in this world would matter. And my family, of course. They're my strongest supporters. If a zombie virus took over the world, how many days do you think you could last before you were infected? And what would you do to postpone the inevitable? That I couldn't tell you. It would depend on where the virus originated. Did it attack the elderly and infirm first, or everyone at once? I'd probably run for the hills and battle with every drop of strength I had. If I caught the virus, the thought of eating my daughter would give me enough incentive to put a bullet through my skull. What television sitcom is most like your family? Why? American Dad. But we're the Canadian version. LMAO! That's a funny show. What’s your favorite thing to do to relax? Create cover art, of course. It's like Valium for me. Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author? Oh, yes. I wrote poems and stories and drew pictures since I was able to hold a crayon. My twin sister was good at sports and everything else she laid her hands on. Me, I was quiet and a bookworm. Until I became a teenager. Then I let loose. What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult? As a child, it was Astrid Lindgren, the author of the Pippi Longstocking tales, and Anna Sewell, the author of Black Beauty. They were both strong women, and I admired them so much. As I grew older, I discovered fantasy and J.R. Tolkein. Then came Anne Rice. They are and always will be my two favorite authors. I've ready Pippi Longstocking to my class. What a great book! Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing? Yes, a burning candle. There's something magical and soothing about writing by candlelight. What have you learned the most from being in the writing business? To trust in myself and my voice. And to read a publishing contract. When I first became published, my first two submissions went to two different publishers. Both were accepted. One publisher was fantastic; the other? *shudders* It was the worse, and best, experience because I learned so much from it and about the publishing business. It's also the main reason I became a cover artist. I think we all have those tales of scary publishing contracts. Tell us about your latest release: Crimson Cries, IV: The First is my latest release. It's the 4th novel to my vampire series called The First. This series would have released before the Twilights and True Bloods, but, as I mentioned above, I had a publisher hold it hostage for three years. The series delves into the first paranormal entities (vamps and wolves). I blend biblical facts with fiction. It's definitely not your ordinary vampire series. Eden's Hell was nominated for an EPIC because it was different from all the vampire novels out there. You'd be surprised to learn just who the first vampire was. *grins* How did you decide on your story plot? Quite by accident, actually. I entered a writing contest in my writing forum. The prompt was to write a chapter length story about a unique vampire. I won the contest, but every judge and reader had one major critique. It was too short. They wanted my character to star in her own novel. So I wrote Dark Diary. Then came Kindred Blood. When the fiasco with that publisher happened, I was halfway through Crimson Cries when I pulled the series from that publishing house. Then I shelved the entire project and began writing a stand-alone vampire novel. Halfway through the writing process of Eden's Hell, I realized it had to begin the series. I truly believe everything in life happens for a reason. That horrid experience was supposed to happen. How else would I have begun writing Eden's Hell? It was just meant to be. How did you choose your characters' names and location(s) for your story? I've always loved the name Daniella. I wanted to name our daughter Daniella, or Danielle, but hubby didn't like it. Rolfe was a last name that sounded regal and strong. Thus, Daniella Rolfe was born. Eden's Hell is set in California because it was a good place for a vampire like Addison Eden to hide. The second novel, Dark Diary, is set here in Winnipeg, where I live. Then we travel to England and Scotland because I've always dreamed of going there one day. The last novel is set in Spain. Do you have a favorite scene? Why? Yes, I do. In Dark Diary, Daniella is in the kitchen with Aiden Blackmore, who is a Winnipeg detective that's (ahem) assigned to protect her. Believe me, Daniella needs no one to protect her. She suddenly realizes she's fallen for him—a human—and not just any human, but a man of authority (a cop). She's lived in anonymity for seven centuries. Aiden's found out what she is and has a difficult time coming to grips with the reality of it. He's questioning her about her past and hits on some intimate questions. She wants nothing to do with him, but he corners her. Here's an excerpt of the scene: To her surprise, Aiden took her other hand and spread both her arms out against the wall before leaning close. When his lips brushed lightly over hers, he sucked in a deep breath. The smoldering fire building inside her deepened to an ache so intense, she knew and saw nothing but his face. His gaze bored into her, never once straying, and the passion therein was unlike any she'd seen. Again, his lips feathered against hers, as if asking permission. “I won't stop, Daniella,” he whispered hoarsely. “I can't stop. Please don't make me.” Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why? That would be Daniella Rolfe. She's rich, beautiful, and powerful. She's everything I wish I was. I bet the fans wish they were here too! Let our readers know how they can get a hold of you… You can drop me a line at my author website www.dawnedominique.com or visit my cover artist website at www.dusktildawndesigns.com I love hearing from readers and authors. Is there anything else that you want to share… feel free!! I have a new release coming out shortly. It's called The Tears of San'Ferath. I was a fantasy author before I began writing paranormal and Tears is straight-up fantasy with a kick-ass heroine, a freelance mercenary, and a land that's lost its mage'ic. I've been struggling with the last chapter, but I hope to have it completed by the end March. Then comes edits, proofing and publishing. And yes, the cover art is done. ☺ If you'd like to see it, it's on my artist webpage under the"Fantasy" section. Eden's Hell, I: The First In the beginning... God created man and called him Adam, a fine specimen replicated in his own image. He then created woman to ease Adam's loneliness and named her Lillith. Unfortunately, God realized his mistake too late in giving woman free will, for she would rule her domain-not man. When Lillith left Adam, God created another for his first-born son, and gave her the name Eve and a kingdom called Eden, but by then it was too late, for he'd unleashed Hell into the world of man. His face was paler, his movements sluggish. As he approached the full length windows, he waved a hand and a portion of the glass slid to the side. Uneasiness churned in the base of her stomach. He’s still hiding something. She followed him out, inwardly thanking him for sharing some insight into the vampire lore. He'd kept her safe so far, and she wouldn’t begin doubting him now, especially now that she was head over heels in love with him. Their night of quickie passion lingered at the back of her mind, a distant dream, a yearning of hope that neither of them had mentioned. He seemed cold and distant, almost as if he’d placed an impenetrable wall between them. Whether it was for her benefit or his, she didn’t know. She stood a few feet away, unsure. Addison’s ebony silhouette revealed tensely squared shoulders. Instinct made her adopt the same demeanor. He turned his head away when his arm snaked around her waist to draw her close. She buried her head into his shoulder, her emotions on overload. His touch felt colder, and she was keenly aware of the marbled muscles pressing into every dip and rise of her body. When they left the ground, she gulped in air, forcing the fluttering butterflies down as far as they would go without her throwing up. When he stopped and hovered in midair, the zero gravity brought sour bile to sting her tongue. She realized this flying wasn’t as fun as it had been the first time around. She held fast and ignored the strands of hair whipping about her face as they flew through the evening sky. With her eyes squeezed shut, Eva did something she hadn’t done in a long time. She prayed. Dark Dairy, II: The First The lives of a deranged serial killer, a seven centuries old First vampire and a City of Winnipeg detective collide in this second novel of Dawné Dominique’s The First series. Daniella Rolfe, a seven-century old First vampire is unwittingly drawn together with a City of Winnipeg detective, who happens to be investigating a string of some rather bizarre serial murders. It doesn’t take long for her to discover that this mere mortal man holds more power over her than any she's ever known. And Aiden...he's only dreamed about women like Daniella. Blood battles and broken vows are just the beginning of Daniella Rolfe’s woes. She pushed her glasses back up her nose and rolled the body over, staring inquisitively at him over the thickness of the lenses. He swallowed the brick-sized lump lodged in his throat. “Have the officers outside make a sweep of the area.” “It's being done now, but that's not the reason why I called Barlow to get you down here. I want you to see this for yourself.” She proceeded to unbutton the victim's shirt and then pushed the material aside so only he could see. He gawked, speechless. Carved in rudimentary printing into the washboard stomach was: Aiden Blackmore. Dixie's eyes narrowed. “Ya mind telling me why your name's there?” “Jesus, help me,” he whispered, feeling the blood drain from his face. He just about fell on his ass and had to put a hand down on the concrete floor to steady himself. “Clear the area,” she shouted without looking up. “Now!” Startled police officers began shuffling out. Soon, there was only the two of them and one dead guy. “Aiden, you gotta tell me what the hell's going on here. This follows the same MO as the others; they all bear identical incisions over both wrists; they're young men about the same height and weight, and their throats have been ripped open. The initials aren't on his back like the others.” Dixie's nose wrinkled. “This time he preferred writing on the front of the envelope. By the way, the victim's prints are on route to forensics now. Let's hope we get a hit.” Aiden swallowed a searing bubble of bile. All he could see was his name etched into the poor man's flesh. “A copycat?” he managed. The victim's brown curls, now stiff with dried blood, looked like a cherub...a chewed up cherub, mind you. “I'll bet you a trip to sunny Florida that we find this guy's more than a few pints short. Look at the blood by his throat.” Using the end of her pen, Dixie pointed to the cement floor. “Judging by the tear to his jugular, his body should be soaked, yet the blood pooling is small, the edges only beginning to dry. Nor is there any postmortem staining,” she added as she removed her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose. “If this is a copycat, how the hell does he know about the wrist and neck wounds? We haven't released that to the public. Aiden? Aiden, are you listening to me?” His attention remained riveted on the young man's stomach, at the sprawling name staring accusingly back at him. “Hey, you gonna ignore me?” The coroner‟s sarcastic drawl cut through his angst. Aiden straightened. He knew this day had started out too good. “What do you want me to say, Dixie?” he snapped. “You got a time of death?” “An hour, maybe two at the most.” He peered toward the corridors leading to both exits—one where he'd entered and the other, the main entrance of the warehouse where several officers had left moments ago. “Who called it in?” She shrugged. “An anonymous caller. You and Barlow listen to the tape. Maybe the voice will spark something. In this neighborhood, who can tell.” After clearing her throat, she waited a minute before asking, “Anything you wanna add?” Right now, he wished he'd grabbed a few extra painkillers. Hell, a whole mitt full. His head swam with these new implications, and for the life of him, he couldn't understand how he'd become personally involved. Had he been getting close to the killer? Fuck! He had absolutely zilch on this guy. The asshole was not only laughing at him, he was ramming him up the ass as well. Somehow, this had become personal. If Aiden had to sell his soul to bring this demented fuck to justice, so be it. Kindred Blood, III: The First There is nothing thicker—or stronger—than kindred blood. Being married in Scotland sounds like the perfect romantic getaway, doesn't it? For Daniella Rolfe and Aiden Blackmore, the nightmare they'd left behind was just the beginning. When Aiden is kidnapped, Daniella will go to any lengths to ensure he's brought safely back to her, no matter the amount of blood to be shed. Together with Spencer Dalton, a private investigator she hired to help find Aiden, they begin to unravel more than they bargained for. Broken vows are the least of Daniella's worries now. When her eyes narrowed, both her pupils liquefied until the entire sockets became black. “Jesus!” She pressed her face close until their noses almost touched. “Stand behind the curtain—and—stay—quiet.” It had to have been his imagination, or for sure he'd finally lost whatever marbles he had left. When he dared to blink, those black pools of hers now blazed blood red. He shied away and pressed himself onto the sill of the window. Now he was positive he'd lost it. “Where are you going to hide?” His heart hammered inside his chest, which thankfully muted the voices out in the hall. Then a loud click sounded and Nigel's front door opened. He stared in panic at the entrance of the bedroom, listening to the approach of footsteps. Daniella flipped the brocade fabric of the drapes over him. “Stay put.” Spencer inched further into the window, wishing he could meld with the glass. From a small pleat in the fabric, he saw her move to the corner opposite the computer. What in the hell is she doing? He wanted to scream at her to hide any place but where she currently stood. She couldn't have been more conspicuous than if she were a Christmas tree with marquee lights. He blinked again, and the next thing he saw was her hair taking on a life of its own. Tendrils lengthened and darkened, and moved about her face and body. Like a belly dancer's veils, the strands grew longer, wider, gathering the shadows in the room into a sensuous waltz that glided around her until-- Poof! One moment she was there, the next she was gone. As the voices grew louder, Spence squeezed his eyes shut and wished he'd never met Daniella Rolfe. Crimson Cries, IV: The First Can she leave behind her past in order to do what's necessary for the future? When Paladin Sandalio, prince of the vilkacis race, shows up at her door with the same cryptic warnings as her father, Daniella Rolfe has no choice but to believe the Nuasiar Nine walk the world again. With vamps and wolves dying side-by-side, and innocents caught in the crossfire, she knows it won't be long before the veils are set asunder. Trusting those she's detested for centuries is no easy task, but learning that entities like them were not created by accident will be the greatest challenge of all. New vows will be taken—now she will show them real fear. Purchase your copy: AMAZON Discuss this book in our PUYB Virtual Book Club at Goodreads by clicking HERE Excerpt: “Your blood is the reason why they’re searching for you. Especially now. They want the strength of a First to defeat the Nine. There are some who believe Sanehet is the father of us all. He helped in creating the vampire race of old, yes. However, the true creator…" He hesitated with a shake of his head. "Your father veiled others because of his loneliness, but only a drop of his blood did he share. Nothing more.” He held up a hand when she opened her mouth. “You’ve taken from him what he’s offered to no other.” The statement landed like a slap across her face. “Then why not come to me? Console me? Be a mentor? A damn parent? How about explaining what I was? Instead, he sent a servant?” He reared back, his eyes glinting dangerously. Unshed tears stung, but she refused to let her guard down. “Every strand of humanity I thought I had is now gone. I’m a monster, like him.” Saying aloud words she’d thought so often since Stronick Castle was a bitter pill to swallow. She rose and began pacing, hoping to stifle the anger and hurt. “He instructed you to teach me not to kill while he gormandized half the population dry like some, some—?” “Vampire?” Contempt hardened his face. “I did as he’d asked. I was a messenger, nothing more. I swore a blood oath to do just that. For what it’s worth, I didn’t know he had a born daughter until after he addressed me with the task.” “We can’t change history. We leave the past behind, yes?” she whispered. “But the future is always alterable. I’ve wrapped myself in arrogance far too long. I thought I was untouchable—” “As his blood flows through you, then so does a portion of his soul. When he’s granted leave from this side of the veils, you’ll inherit it in its entirety, along with all his powers.” “Soul? Powers? Do you think me that naive?” “Are you capable of love?” A multi-published and award-nominated author of paranormal erotic romance and fantasy, Dawné Dominique's novels instantly hook readers until that last page is read. Although published in the US, she's a Canadian author through and through. The second novel of her vampire series, Dark Diary, II: The First, is set in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she resides with her family, and Gunkers, a stray cat she recently saved, and Chumbly, their newest addition to the feline household. She embraces life with one simple rule: “Everything in life happens for a reason, be it good or bad, and it’s because of this we learn to never take anything for granted.” Her latest books are in The First Series: Eden’s Hell, Dark Dairy, Kindred Blood and Crimson Cries.
