Jobs in the Afterlife? #New_Release #Death's_Name_is_Ira

6/24/2017

Most of us like to think of the afterlife as a wonderful place where we can go to rest, relax and enjoy time with friends and family. But wouldn't that get a little boring for some of us? What if we were there without our soul mate?

I know I would probably go stir crazy after a decade or so (okay maybe ten minutes) and would want something to do. But what kind of job would there be in heaven?

In Death's Name is Ira, Ira is given a noble job of helping other people to cross over. He's the first person they see and I can't think of a more helpful job. But for Ira, it's about more than the job...

Check out the cover, blurb and excerpt to find out more....
Picture
Love doesn't end after death... but dying certainly complicates things...

For Ira Collins, death presented a far more purposeful alternative than life. Serving as one of the proud members of the Reaper Corps, he found meaning and fulfillment in the process of helping those who have died adjust to their new existence in the spiritual plane. For Ira, the work was so rewarding that it was even worth forgoing reincarnation for.

However, when he is tasked with reaping the reincarnated soul of the woman he loved back when he was alive, Ira finds himself in a very difficult situation. Should he betray the Corps for the sake of the woman he loves, or live up to his responsibility to the rest of the reapers, and let her die?

And as if this was not complicated enough, Ira must also help solve a disturbing mystery plaguing the spiritual plane, involving the disappearances of souls…

Excerpt:
“You see, Mr. Campbell, what I have to tell you may be difficult for you to accept. I only hope you’ll listen to what I have to say with an open and unbiased mind. I realize that may be difficult, given how outlandish my claims will seem, but I promise you that I am telling the truth. You may be skeptical or, more likely, disbelieving, but if you would just humor me until I can finish my explanation, I think eventually you’ll realize I’m being completely and utterly honest with you.”

He paused again, offering Campbell a second opportunity to speak if he wished to. Campbell frowned and did not say anything, but gave the stranger a slight nod of consent.

“Thank you,” Ira said, solemnly. “I’m here, Mr. Campbell, because you are dead.”
He said the words so matter-of-factly that for a moment Campbell was sure he had misheard him. “Dead?” he repeated and then gave a small, scoffing laugh. “How can I be dead? I’m sitting here right now, talking to you.”

“Yes,” Ira allowed, nodding, “but I’m something of a special case. As far as every other living being on this planet is concerned, Michael Campbell died in his sleep a few moments ago, just as I walked through the door. You died of a heart attack, the result of complications from your surgery.”

“The surgery was a success,” Campbell said, shaking his head, for a moment allowing himself to believe this stranger in his room was not the madman he obviously appeared to be, if only for the sake of argument. “I spoke to my doctor a few hours ago— he told me everything went well. I’m supposed to be going home tomorrow for chrissake!”

The man gave his small, gentle smile again. “Unfortunately, Mr. Campbell, doctors are often wrong. Reapers, on the other hand, are scarcely ever.”

Sounds like a fun time right? What job would you want if you were given one in heaven?

Happy Father's DAy! #Dad #Papa #Father

Dad's are daring... They kill the spiders
Dad's are Strong... They open the stuck jars

DAD'S ARE FUNNY... THEY REFUSE TO LET YOU DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL YOU LEARN HOW TO CHECK THE OIL ALL ON YOUR OWN...And you spend five days just trying to open the hood because you can't find the latch underneath it.

MAYBE THAT LAST PART WAS JUST MY DAD...
Picture
As we celebrate Father's Day, it's important to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful things your father does for you. My dad is of an age where the men went to work and brought home the money, did the outside chores, fiddled with the cars, and had a few hobbies. He carried the weight of the family's success on his shoulders.

Vacations and new clothes were few and far between. New cars nor fancy mansions weren't in the cards either. We did have a nice home and food on the table. Our yard was our playground and we basically never wanted for anything.
Picture
Picture
My poor dad had five daughters, which for a man who loved hunting and fishing, was a hair-raising event. We all learned how to shoot and fish. We mowed the grass, weeded the garden and cared for the animals. But many times Dad didn't know what to do with five hormonal women.
Picture

But through it all, he survived! Or Thrived! And he turned out five successful women who are strong in our own rights... From nurses to heads of departments, to store managers and mothers... He's now a Grandpa, a Papa....

Recently, he's downsized and moved to enjoy the water each day. With the change of towns, he's closer to his daughters and the fishing which he loves. The change to a new city meant leaving his friends and comfort zone behind. I'm so proud of him for stepping out and finding a place he can donate his time.

Dad is volunteering at a local airstrip which has a museum where they are restoring older airplanes and boats from the World Wars. Here's a couple of photos of his job.

Currently, he is working on a PT boat. This boat is one of the few remaining ones still in operation. He's completely rebuilding the boat down from the studs and hope to have the boat back up and on the water this fall.

I realize I'm fortunate to have my dad in my life. He's an amazing man who has worked tirelessly for years to make me a better person and now is giving of himself for something amazing. Sexy_Shane- A Man and His Dog #new_Release

6/14/2017

There's something about a guy with a dog. Maybe it's knowing that he can and does care for something more than himself. Maybe it's his fun loving nature. Or Maybe it just brings out the sweet in a guy. But when you pair a man and a dog, it sets my heart aflutter.

In Undeniable Love, we get to meet sexy tattoo artist, Shane Reed. He's never going to settle down... that is... until his dog becomes a hit on the news and he falls for a local reporter. Here's an excerpt...

“I see.” She studied him closely under her long lashes. There was an amused smile on her lips. “Shane? You wouldn’t be opening up to me like this to manipulate things between us, would you?”

“Maybe.” He leaned in closer until her breath tickled his nose. “Is that so bad?”

“Yes!”

“Why?”

“Because….” She paused, no longer seeming to know how to respond. She was probably conflicted. Maybe part of her ached for his touch. And maybe another part of her wanted to stay a good little southern girl.

He inched closer to her mouth. This was his chance to bring the good girl half to the dark side. “Let’s just go with the flow.”

She studied his lips for a long time and then lifted her gaze to his. She put a hand on his chest. His heart pounded underneath her fingers and his body tightened in anticipation. This is it, he thought. It’s finally time to taste those inviting pink lips.

“I think we should change the subject.” She pushed out of his embrace, and walked over to one of the tattoo stations, running her hand across the black tattoo gun.

Good girl half wins. For now.

Picture
Shane Reed won't be swayed by love. He's a city boy with a passion for tattoos and melting women's hearts. Until he finds his bachelor status threatened by a beautiful news reporter he just can’t seem to forget.

Josie Brooks won't let anything get in her way. She's in Chicago to make her weather correspondent dreams come true. But when a dashing stranger comes crashing into her life, can she really ignore her heart’s desire to save her career?

When two paths entangle…resolves can be broken, hearts can be stolen, and a love can become undeniable.

Blurb:

In a pirate’s lair, nothing is as it seems . . .

Shipwrecked! When Royce Hastings is found washed up on the shore of a verdant tropical island, he tells the natives he is a merchant headed for Mozambique. The truth, however, is far more mercenary. Noble by birth, the once favored Royce has lost his fortune and family; now he is a hired henchman on the trail of an elusive pirate. His “shipwreck” was a fake. He’ll stop at nothing to infiltrate the island and capture his prey. His mother and sisters’ lives depend on it.

The last thing Royce expects is to be captured himself. But the lovely young woman who tends to his wounds in the tropics quickly takes hold of his heart. Simone is the island’s healer, and her skilled ministrations not only awaken his soul but disturb his conscience. His path has been predetermined; his identity must remain concealed at all costs. Yet the passion he feels in Simone’s sultry, loving arms cannot be denied. With his loyalties torn, Royce must make an agonizing, unthinkable choice. . . .

“The story is brimming with risqué retorts and searing sex scenes.”
—Publishers Weekly on Passionate Pursuit

Excerpt:

Of all the people to discover him, Royce hadn’t expected such a beautiful young woman. Simone the other native had said.
She couldn’t have been older than twenty. Her light brown skin complemented her dark hair. The ends grazed her waist. He detected a bit of European in her exotic features, and island custom in what little she wore. Simply a red silk cloth tied about her hips. Her breasts were full and lush, begging for a man’s touch.
Wary that she might scream, he’d released her quickly and had expected her to run.
She checked his arms, hands, and head. He supposed for injuries.
At last, she finished and peeked at him.
Cautiously, he pushed up, hoping she wouldn’t bolt.
She sat back on her heels.
Needing an ally here, he tried a smile.
Hers was wondrous, broad and carefree, no deception or caution in her soft brown eyes.
His arrival would eventually change that. No better way to destroy a woman’s trust and happiness than wresting her from an island Eden to imprisonment, lifelong slavery, repeated rape, and birthing children only to have them torn away.
Guilt and shame churned in his gut. Fear for his family competed with the other emotions. “Are you the only one here?” Besides, Tristan, his crew, and the other island woman. Their conversation had mentioned Tristan, but not Diana or Peter.
Simone tilted her head. A tress fell across her breast. Confusion swept her lovely face.
Royce had deliberately spoken English so she wouldn’t know he’d heard her speak French earlier when he’d feigned unconsciousness. He next tried Portuguese and received her same bewildered reaction. At last, he used her language.
Her eyes lit up. “My people live here. Once we have you in the stone house, I can see to your injury.” She touched his thigh. “Does it hurt?”
Not as much as when he’d arrived on this shore. “My head is worse.”
She brushed back his hair, her touch as light as an angel’s.
Despite his callous intent here, and what prudence demanded, his lids slid down, his heart pounding as hard as it had when she’d stroked his ribs.
She explored his wound carefully. “I can make a potion to take your pain away. As soon as the men arrive I—”
Voices and footfalls interrupted.
Tristan led the way, his manner and appearance precisely as rumor had described: tall, golden skin, blond hair, and light eyes that offered naught except challenge and possibly death if anyone dared threatened him or those he loved. Following him was an equally tall man with long red hair, his face and chest freckled. Had to be James Sullivan, Tristan’s friend and former quartermaster during their piracy.
An adolescent boy, fifteen or so, brought up the rear. Gangly, as youth were prone to be, he had long dark hair streaked with blond, his skin brown from days outdoors. Diana’s brother, Peter. His features matched Bishop’s depiction.
Tristan, James, Peter, and island men trained their pistols on Royce.
The land to their side jutted out, rocky and reddish as those found in Madagascar. A white woman stood there, wind whipping her dark hair and simple sheath-like gown in violet silk. Her slightly rounded belly didn’t prove pregnancy, though Royce would have staked his life on it. She wore a choker about her throat, the diamonds glittering in the light.
Royce’s pulse pounded. Diana was here, as Bishop had predicted. Along with too many armed men, as Royce had feared, though all islanders, not pirates.

Mary Mason starts the book out friendless.

When she became pregnant with two different men’s babies on the same night and that odd fact got out a few months later, Mary was not only fired from work for no legitimate reason, but all her co-workers dropped her like a rock as a friend. Even a woman she had known since college refused to pick her up from the hospital when she needed help.

Instead, Captain Danton of the Vice Squad attempted to get her to solicit him, but gave up when he realized she was in serious pain. So instead he took her to the hospital that had just sent her home. Between the doctor and Mary, he discovered she wasn’t a hooker, but before she was recently fired, she’d been the DRG conglomerates’ controller.  “Off Record” Mary shared what had happened.  Just as well she wanted it off the record, because there was nothing he could do about it now. Charles Lott was one of the wealthiest men in the town. But Captain Danton did believe her story of being deceived by her ‘fiancé‘ who turned out to already be married and raped by her boss. She had a tell when she lied, but her shocking story rang true.

Thus, Mary’s only friend in the entire town is the man who planned to arrest her for solicitation when he arrived.

EXCERPT
Before the policemen could approach, the women from their SUV jumped out of the car and started screeching. “Officer, arrest that woman. She was having sex with that man out here for everyone to see.”
The other woman nodded. “We heard him offer her a hundred dollars if she’d…well you know. And she did. Right here in front of God and everybody.”
Cooper and Blankenship were getting a kick out the women’s false claims and were now asking for details.
Chad looked at the clearly frightened woman beside him. “Do these women know you?”
She nodded. “They’re dedicated to making my life hell.” Her tired eyes met his. “I am not a prostitute.” She looked at her leopard dress in disgust. “This isn’t mine. My clothes and purse were missing, so I had no choice but to dress in this to leave the hospital.”
He frowned. “Did you report it to the hospital?”
“No. I knew who took them. There wasn’t anything the hospital could do.” Her eyes went to the women still elaborating on what they had seen. Problem was these women didn’t want to say the words needed to describe the crime.
He pulled out his wallet and showed her his badge. He felt her fear double.
“Look, I was just doing my job. I had already determined you weren’t soliciting, but unfortunately, dressed as you are I can’t leave you sitting here, so either I or these officers will need to take you home.”
“You,” she said in an instant.
He frowned. “Have you ever met these policemen before?”
Her hands shook. “No, I’d just prefer you.”
God, she was a terrible liar. He could hear it in her voice and see it in her body. “Have you been arrested for prostitution before?”
“No! I told you I’m not a prostitute. Until last week, I was the controller of DRG Commodities.”
He stared at her in shock. No tells of lying in that claim. “I can check that out.”
She sighed with relief. “Can you do it now, because I do not want to go anywhere with those men.”
“Let me take you to my car. I can do it there.”
He reached down and helped her up. He watched her body shiver from the pain standing up caused. To hell with taking her home, he was taking her back to the hospital.

Mary seems to be someone she isn't but that doesn't stop the police chief, Chad, from seeing the real her. When two women (and much of the town) set out to ruin Mary's life, she's not willing to sit by and let it happen, but after giving birth to twins, she's a little worn out. She wants to fight but doesn't see how to stop the vicious people who want to harm her and her innocent babies.

Chad steps in to help Mary only to discover there's more going on in the police department than a few crooked cops. Now not only is Mary in trouble but Chad may lose more than a job...he may lose his life.

Ms. O'Connor's stories always delight. She takes ordinary situations and turns them on their ears. Everything seems outrageous but really does happen in the real world. Gossip and jealousy can turn ordinary people into killers. Corruption of the police department happens in big cities like Detroit and small towns across America. But just when you think life is bleak, Ms. O'Connor shows us that not everyone is evil or selfish... life really does have a happy ending.

A must read!

EXCERPT Of STARR GONE
Starr
The rational part of my brain screams at me to kick Sami in the stomach. Kick her and send her flying across the room. The irrational part disregards any and all concern for my own wellbeing. The irrational part only cares that one of the friends I thought was dead is alive.

I tilt my head away from the whip and whirl around. “Oh my god! Sami!” I rush at her with my arms flung out. She shoves her palms into my chest. “I don’t think so,” she says and sends me flying backwards.

My arms flail wildly searching for something, anything to hold on to. Her reaction doesn’t make any sense. I thought she was dead. I thought she and Jody were dead. I mourned for them. I vowed to avenge their deaths. We should be celebrating not fighting.

Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Jody. Any concern I hatched for myself during Sami’s attack disappears.

Jody’s alive. She’s alive.

I leap at her, but Sami’s whip bites my kneecap. White-hot pain sears my leg, paralyzing me to one square foot of this dingy room.

I search Jody’s face for answers to a million questions. Questions I’m sure she has the answers to, but she avoids my gaze. “Jody, what’s going on?”

Sami sighs loudly. “You’re a smart girl, Starr. Figure it out.”

“No,” Frank grunts. “Get out of here.”

I raise my chin. “You did this to Frank.”

Sami smacks the whip in her hand. “I did.”

Stepping back, I place myself between the tip of her sick plaything and my best friend. “Why?”

Her lip rises in a snarl. “We were trying to find out where you were.”

“Why?”

“Once again you’re screwing up my life.”

Nothing she says makes sense. We were friends. Nighttime sleepovers, true confessions, best of friends. “I thought you were dead. I thought you and Jody were dead.”

She flicks her wrist. The snakelike tip bites my ankle. I stumble back. “Of course you did, because it’s all about you isn’t it?”

Hot liquid seeps across my foot. I show no weakness. You can’t with a predator. “I don’t understand. We’re friends. We’ve always been friends. I’ve never done anything to you, to either of you.” I search Jody’s face, but she still refuses to look at me.

“We’re friends?” Sami snarls. “Do you know how much I hate you? Every day of our friendship I hated you.”

The piercing fangs of her words hurt more than a whip ever could. The air in my lungs whooshes out of me. “Why?”

“Because you’re Starr,” she snarls. “You’re tall, blond, blue-eyed, with that girl next door wholeness. Guys love you. Girls want to be you. I’m sick and tired of hearing, ‘Starr this, Starr that.’ I. Hate. You.”

“Sami,” I plead. “I never meant to hurt you. I had no idea you felt this way. Why didn’t you say anything?”

Her lip curls as if she’s found a most distasteful piece of lint on her shirt. “Of course you didn’t do anything. That was the problem. You’re so freaking perfect. You’re so freaking nice. You never want anyone to be upset with you—you make me sick.”

A Starr gone. A team betrayed.

You never know who your true friends are until a gun’s pointed at you. One will take a bullet, and the other will pull the trigger. Starr learned that lesson the hard way.

The perfect smile. A killer attitude. General Treadwell wanted nothing more than to turn Starr Bishop into the ideal assassin, but she’s far more valuable as Jessica Chamberlain, granddaughter and heir to Chamberlain Chocolates. Luckily, he’s found two enthusiastic replacements. They lack Starr’s intelligence, but no matter, they possess their own weapons of persuasion along with a flair for the dramatic, and that’s never a bad thing.

Di, along with Christian, Frank, Ben and Coda, are determined to keep Starr safe, but the depths of betrayal crack the very foundation of the team. When Starr becomes a pawn in a game of power, money, and manipulation, Di channels her WWSD (What Would Starr Do) to rally the team. She owes her best friend that much. No... More.

About the Author:
Kim Briggs once smashed into a tree while skiing. The accident led to a concussion, a cracked sternum, temporary notoriety as a sixth grader returned from the dead, and the realization that fictionalized accounts are way more interesting than just slipping on the ice.

An unhealthy obsession with conspiracy theories combined with a love of travel and happily ever afters led Kim to write her YA novel, Starr Fall, where a secret organization decides 17-year-old Starr Bishop is not only the model student, but the ideal assassin. While in hiding, Starr meets dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood. Cue the swoon worthy music. But it’s not all happily ever afters for Kim. Her NA novel, And Then He, explores the dark and scary corners of the human psyche. Following a night of innocent flirting with a handsome stranger, Tiffani finds herself in the midst of a nightmare she can’t escape. And Then He is available through Amazon and other major book retailers. Starr Fall released November 2016 with Inkspell Publishing, followed by Starr Lost in January 2017 and Starr Gone in June 2017. Her novella, Avalanche is part of the Valentine Kisses Anthology and released February 14, 2017.

When she’s not doing something writerly, Kim can be found jumping into snowdrifts with her three kids, husband, and dog. She’s careful to avoid trees.

Blood. Everywhere.

Macy Gibbs looked down at her shaking hands, stained red, still clutching the bloody knife. Her gaze dropped to the man lying on the floor at her feet. His eyes stared empty into space. Fluid oozed from the wound in his chest where his heart should beat.

Her ears began to ring, her vision dimming. They would execute her for this. In this country, she wouldn’t get a trial. Women had very few rights here. An American woman had none. Especially one married to an Azbak man.

Revulsion turned her stomach. Married. What she’d been in was anything but a marriage.

The sound of the door handle turning snapped her out of her stupor. One thought ran through her head as she dropped the knife. Run.

Panicked, she spun in a circle, searching the small bedroom for an escape she knew she wouldn’t find. She’d been locked inside this room for weeks. Had there been a way out she would have found it

Her eyes trapped on the door. Only one way out. One choice.

To keep fighting.

Forcing her legs to move she slipped behind the door just as it opened. A tall figure moved stealthily into the darkened room, lit only by a dim lamp in the corner. On auto-pilot, Macy struck, aiming for his jugular.

He ducked her blow, his hand coming up to capture her wrist. With a forceful tug, he had her arm pinned behind her, her back pressed to the wall and a forearm against her throat. Not enough to hurt her, but it felt like an iron bar across her neck. Afraid to breathe, she looked up into a pair of stunningly beautiful green eyes. The way he stared back at her made her blood race. Direct, lethal.

Her vision narrowed. Warmth slid down her leg but she didn’t feel the pain of her injury. Memories of what her bastard husband had tried to do to her filled her head. If she hadn’t fought back…

“Hey, breathe.”

Her attacker’s voice, low and smooth, broke through her thoughts. Macy blinked. Why did he sound so far away when she could feel every hard inch of him?

The arm on her throat loosened. She drew in a breath that made her head spin. “American,” she whispered, fighting to remain upright. He wasn’t one of Aziz’s men. Where were the guards? Surely, they must have heard her tussle with their leader. Then again, they were fully aware of what went on in this room and had not once intervened.

A hand gripped her chin, warm despite the chill in her bones. Gave her a shake. Her eyes snapped open.

“Come on, we’re getting out of here.”

Meet Jennifer:
NY Times & USA Today bestselling author, Jennifer Lowery grew up reading romance novels in the back of her math book and on the bus to school, and never wanted to be anything but a writer.  Her summers were spent sitting at the kitchen table with her sisters spinning tales of romance and intrigue and always with a tall glass of ice tea at their side.
Today, Jennifer is living that dream and she couldn’t be happier to share her passion with her readers.  She loves everything there is about romance.  Her stories feature alpha heroes who meet their match with strong, independent heroines.  She believes that happily ever after is only the beginning of her stories. And the road to that happy ending is paved with action, adventure, and romance. As her characters find out when they face danger, overcome fears, and are forced to look deep within themselves to discover love.
Jennifer lives in Michigan with her husband and two children.  When she isn’t writing she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
