I am from the UK so I don't know a lot about US Independence day but I love the enthusiasm and the celebrations! I hope all US and non US citizens (who celebrate it) the best 4th of July!

Malika,
It is interesting that we celebrate a holiday about gaining our independence from England, but as a teacher I have a whole different perspective of the American Revolution. If you think of it as England as a parent and the colonies as teens, it makes a lot more sense.

I have always loved this great nation, and have been in almost all of the states. I recently moved from Utah to New England, and will be spending the 4th in Boston, with my son. I love history, & I am very excited to be here now! I have waited more years than I care to admit to be in Boston this time. I spent the 4th of July of 1974 in Philadelphia

DeEtte,
I've been to Boston and the history is so rich there. I hope you get to see it all. Don't forget to visit Harvard as well. It has been years since I was there but there were some great places to eat along the river near Harvard Square and who couldn't resist the bakeries in Little Italy! OMG the cannoli's were to die for!

Tessa

I'm from Helsinki, so we don't of course celebrate independence day here on the fourth. but I have lots of American friends, some of whom live here, and we celebrate together.

Melissa link

Tessa,
I like that you are open to celebrating with your friends. That is what the holiday is all about, family and friends coming together to celebrate independence, which can take so many forms. How is the weather in Helsinki? I would love to visit!

I live in Germany, but have spent several US holidays in the States and I always love the celebrations with family, friends and neighbors

Danny, Does Germany have a celebration like the Fourth of July? It sounds like you travel a lot! What do you do for a living?

I have always loved what the 4th stood for and made sure that my kids knew why we were celebrating. They grew up with great pride in their country and when my son joined the Army he was so proud, as was I. Now that he has his angel wings, my grandson said that the fireworks were for Uncle Dane, to say thank you and we love you. The fireworks this year will be extra special.

Sue,
What a touching and heartwarming story. I am so honored that your son felt that our country was important enough to give his life over. I hope he knows how much we appreciate his and your family's gift. Fireworks are so much more special when they mean something to our families. I will certainly look at them differently now after your story.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Laurie. I live in a suburb of Detroit so we get to combine the two holidays and have a downtown firework festival and street fair. This year it was held this past Monday. They always go way out! It is nice that we are able to share holidays that way!

Hi Lisa...It is always about the kids! How old are yours? It sounds like they are younger. Mine are now adults and so it isn't as much fun as it used to be watching their faces light up with the fireworks. But then again, I have a whole different relationship now too!

Hi Lacey, That sounds like a wonderful time! Do you know what you are cooking yet? Hot dogs and burgers are a staple but I love a good steak! How about you?

I've always enjoyed the fireworks and family barbecues...haven't been to a parade in a while, but it's tempting for some reason!

Melissa link

Hi Trix! Parades are tons of fun. Have you ever walked in one? I haven't seen as many parades for the Fourth as I have for Memorial Day.

I love July 4th. I love spending time with my family and friends! I love the cookouts and the fireworks...This year I'm looking forward to spending time with my niece. This is her first Independence Day and I can't wait to see her reaction to the fireworks :)

Introducing children to holidays is one of the best parts. They show us fresh eyes and add to the excitement. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

I don't necessarily celebrate the 4th but I do enjoy a good cookout...especially if the grill is filled with all the yummy meat products shown in that picture above! Enjoy your 4th...stay cool and safe!

Thanks for the giveaway.

Karen,
I'm a steak girl if given a choice. But I do love burgers and hot dogs on the grill. For some reason, my ribs do better in the oven. I usually marinate them and then slow cook them so that the meat just falls of the bones! I hope you get a cookout in soon!

I live in Phoenix and with the dry conditions don't expect any fireworks this year, but I grew up in Boston and that grand city knows how to do the 4th right. There is nothing like joining the throng in Copley Square to cheer on the pyrotechnics exploding over the harbor.

Not too excited this year. No plans due to families work & vaction schedules and we are having a very dry, hot summer with heat advisories and bans on fireworks and such. I am housitting alone and just plan on watching a fun movie or reading a good book.
