The door to the parlor opened and Buck’s son Jefferson Buchanan, entered the room. He saw Savvy and grinned. “Hello, Dad. Hello, Audrey. Good to see you, Savannah,” he said.

Savvy stared without blinking and nodded to him.

Morgan leaned over to Caleb and said, “I swear to God, I heard violins when he looked at her.” Caleb nodded agreement but never took his gaze off the couple.

“Please join us, Jeff. There’s one seat left next to Savannah. I had so hoped you’d be able to be here today,” Audrey said.

“I smell a setup,” Morgan whispered.

“No kidding,” Caleb replied. “But by Audrey or Buck?”

“Hmm, I don’t know.”

Jeff sat next to Savvy. She closed her eyes and took a deep, cleansing breath. Morgan knew from experience that Savannah was back in control. “Well, Jeff, what brings you here today?” she asked.

“My father’s wedding. And you, Savannah.”

“Hunh?” Savvy squeaked.

“You. There’s so much I wanted to talk about when you were here before, but our schedules didn’t allow it. Today, I’m free all afternoon. How about you?”

“Sure, yes. I think I’m available as long as Mama doesn’t need me.”

“You go on and enjoy reminiscing about the old days. Buck and I will entertain Caleb and Morgan. Just be back in time to get ready for the rehearsal dinner,” Audrey said.

Jeff stood and took Savvy’s hand. She let him lead her to the front door. “We’re not going to leave the property. Dad, if you need me, just call. Audrey, if you need Savannah, just call my cell.”

Morgan noticed that Savvy was not as sure-footed as usual. She seemed ready to faint or fall over. “Did you notice that Savvy was at a loss for words and stumbling, besides?” she asked.
Caleb answered, “Yep. I bet that hasn’t happened before.”

“Not in this century,” Morgan said.
