Summertime in Michigan #new_release

Michigan is beautiful in the summertime. The leaves are green, flowers are blooming and the temperature is still mild with only occasional days in the high 80's. Best of all, it has miles and miles of glorious shoreline. A state which borders most of the Great Lakes, water sports are a popular past time.

People own cottages along the lakes and take off for long weekends or vacations. One of these perfect summer trips is the backdrop for STEALING HAVEN- a Jamie Richmond Mystery.

Even amateur sleuths must get away from the crime of the city and Jamie has set off for the west side of the state for a vacation with her good friend. South Haven, Michigan is a beach town with great food and quaint shops. Just the place to enjoy some sunshine and even a few drinks.... but you have to know Jamie can't help getting her nose into a local burglary.

Blurb:
After months of hard work, Jamie and her best friend, Linda, are on vacation. Lounging on the sandy beaches of South Haven, on the shore of Lake Michigan, the ladies only plan is no plan. No deadlines for Jamie, the investigative reporter. No papers to grade for Linda, the high school teacher. It’s time to kick back and relax.

That lasted until lunchtime on Monday, when they shared a table with Jared, a local cop and Randy, a city official who only had eyes for Jamie. Casual conversation revealed a home invasion, which got Jamie’s curiosity going.

While the two friends explore South Haven, Jamie discovered a pattern with the home invasions. Sharing her clues with Jared, it isn’t long before Jamie and Linda are recruited to help catch the crooks.

Sand, sun, romance and a mystery to solve. Sounds like a perfect vacation for Jamie.

EXCERPT:
“Jamie, what are we doing?”

“I’m curious. That’s two nights in a row where we’ve seen someone running in the dark. Maybe there is something going on.”

“Why are you looking for trouble? We’re on vacation. Is this a way of diverting my attention from your misbehavior?” A wicked grin flashed across her face.

Ignoring her, I stood at the back of the house. The footprints were still visible in the yard. Randy had been right. There were no signs of activity near the building. But if they were running away from here, where did they come from? I turned around and faced the street, following the diagonal path. I could imagine someone racing between the two houses on the opposite side of the road. Curiosity got the better of me. We walked in that direction. Both houses were dark with no signs of life. I went between them to the backyards.

“Jamie, let’s go. The beach is waiting. Sun, sand, muscular lifeguards with tiny swimsuits could be looking for us even as we’re standing here.”

“There are no lifeguards on our part of the beach.”

“Maybe they’re on vacation, too.”

I was about to give up when something caught my eye. The back door to the house on the left, a quaint little cottage, was pried open. There were several gouges in the wood. Peeking through the window, I could see into the kitchen. The cupboard doors were ajar. Linda stood silently beside me for a moment. Then she moved around the corner. She returned, shaking her head in dismay.
