AGAINST ALL OBSTACLES is a wonderful read. I'm so excited to share this book. It's about a strong woman who is in this agonizing race. She's trying to win in order to get the prize money to help her classroom. After all, a teacher spends a ton of money each year on her students which is never paid back or paid for by the school. She's fit and doesn't have a need for a guy. Rachel ends up finding a romance at a place she'd least expect... the middle of the race. But that begs the question... is he simply trying to get the money??
Author Jennifer Safrey's story pulls the reader along over the obstacles and in this book... they are truly obstacles!! The story is unique in the setting and I loved the interactions between the two characters. Rachel doesn't need Evan so it's a meeting of two equals.
AGAINST ALL OBSTACLES is now available for purchase. Be sure to snag a copy for yourself!
The Golden Crucible race is secretive, unusual, and—some say—crazy.
It will test your endurance.
It will test your strength.
It will test … your heart.
When winning is everything … can two competitors walk away from the real prize?
At 45, Rachel’s given up on love. Competition ended all her relationships, and she’s fine running her race alone.
At 38, Evan’s given up on love. He’s just not the commitment type, and he’s declared himself retired from trying.
When Rachel, a teacher and obstacle-course racer, and Evan, a former English soccer star, meet as competitors in The Golden Crucible endurance race, winning is the only thing on their minds. She needs the prize money for her students; he needs the publicity to boost his reputation.
But pushing physical and mental limits side by side with your rival for hours--for days—means getting to know that person, inside and out, really damn well.
Well enough to start feeling. To start caring. To start questioning everything.
And to start wondering if love is worth fighting for, after all.

“Because I feel like there’s something going on here.”
Rachel had been aware of his closeness since she’d first sat. She was aware she was sitting where he’d lie down to sleep. She was aware they had very little to keep them warm, to keep them safe, to keep them fed. It felt like their lives had been stripped down to the basics. Intimacy was a basic, and it swirled around them both now.
“Unless I’m reading this totally wrong,” Evan said. “In which case, I apologize. You might be thinking about your bodybuilding boyfriend right now and I’m way off base.”
“I’m not thinking about my bodybuilding boyfriend.”
“Ah, so there is one.”
“There is not. No boyfriend. An ex-husband long gone, and some boyfriends after that, but no current boyfriend. It’s been a few years since I was in anything serious.”
“So there’s something? Here, I mean.”
Rachel’s body felt tingly and alive in several private places. She was sure Evan could hear her heart beating; it was almost all she could hear. “You aren’t a fan of scandal,” she managed to say. “And this is one, if anyone sees me with you in your tent late at night. I need to go back to my own.”
“I guess that’s your way of letting me know there isn’t something.”
“Oh, there is,” Rachel said. She didn’t want to raise her voice, so she lowered it to an insistent whisper. “There’s a something. You said it, and I won’t bother denying it. But here’s what’s in the way of that something. I need to beat your butt this weekend, as you know. And as you know, you’re not a commitment guy. And also, as you know, your love life is of national interest to your home country, or has been. That’s so many red flags waving, I’m surprised a bull doesn’t come charging through here.”
