I grew up in a small town along the Lake Erie coast in Ohio. Amherst was a typical small town where everyone knew what others were doing. With a cozy downtown area, often people are seen walking down the sidewalks and stopping into the shops and restaurants.
Because growing up in Amherst was so fundamental in my teenage years, it was natural to set my stories along those tree-lined streets. One of my favorite places to include is O'Armours, Hot Dog Heaven.
The restaurant was founded in 1976 in an older home on the corner just up from the high school. It quickly became a place for teenagers to obtain their first job, a meeting place after sporting events, and the perfect place for a first date. Featuring memorabilia on the walls and a jukebox in the corner, Hot Dog Heaven was known for its cheesy-fries and loaded hot dogs.
Late Tuesday night, a fire started after closing and quickly gutted the three story building. Former classmates and I posted the harrowing story as we tried to come to terms with the possible loss of a town icon. The owner vowed to rebuild and maintain the small town charm exuded in the original building.
While you may not be able to visit O'Armours, you can get a feel for the place in my Wilder Sisters Series- Home is Where the Heart is. Set in Amherst, the stories revolve around five sisters who left their hometown only to find out what they wanted could only be found in the town they tried to escape.
They all left their small town only to return and face what forced them to run.
Five sisters each left Amherst, Ohio. When they come home again, they find love and family as well as a chance to redeem themselves.
When a chance meeting happens, can the two former friends allow themselves the chance to become friends again, or will the sparks turn a childhood friendship into a forever love?
Can a summer fling last a lifetime? Will Stacey and Mandy make their long distance relationship work? Or will they let the prejudices of their upbringing ruin their chance at happiness?
A Christmas Accident
When a horrible blizzard causes an automobile accident that puts the lives of those Sherri loves on the line, can a Christmas miracle save them?
Can a blind woman and the womanizer rely on each other to rescue Mr. Wilder or will insecurities and stress cause their blossoming relationship to self-destruct?
Two broken hearts mend as love blossoms, but when danger comes calling, can the two loners learn to rely on each other or will they lose all they have found?
Thank you for visiting with me and traveling to Amherst. Follow me on FB for updates on Hot Dog Heaven and my other posts.
