Flash fiction is taking a photograph or an idea and writing a brief scene about what is happening in the story. It is usually around 200-500 words and doesn't really delve into the background behind the characters or their actions. It is like a hot, sizzling little preview for a larger story.
I love writing flash fiction because it challenges my writing. I have to convey a thought, a scene, a feeling in very few words. This is similar to writing poetry. The author must carefully select their words to entice the reader into the story. I've written quite a few different flash fiction pieces over the last year. I'm thinking about putting them together into a book. But this is where I want your thoughts and opinions. Do you enjoy Flash Fiction? Do you enjoy reading short scenes without all the details? I value your thoughts on this. Feel free to comment and let me know! 1/13/2013 12:43:16 am
I too have enjoyed writing flash fiction. It keeps my writing fresh, not to mention the plot bunnies :) I also enjoy reading flashes, it's a great way to tease yourself with a new to you author. Pulling all your flashes together is a fab idea. 1/13/2013 12:57:29 am
I used to write heaps of flash fiction and I love it.. A friend of mine published a collection and did really well with it and I may (if I ever have the time) consider doing the same as I do actually have loads of stuff archived away someplace...x 1/13/2013 02:49:51 am
Thanks Tallulah. It helps to know that others have found it to be successful! 1/13/2013 03:46:14 am
I love writing flash fiction. I've gotten a lot of kernels for new stories from 100-1000 words prompted in some way. I like reading them too. Easy to squeeze into a busy day. 1/13/2013 08:41:29 am

Sounds like a fun read. I'm partial to short scenes that pack a punch. Comments are closed.
