Lily Drake Book Spotlight with T. Michelle Nelson

10/11/2012

Today I'm so excited to have T. Michelle Nelson on my blog to share about her latest release: "The Life and Death of Lily Drake". I've read this book and it is amazing!  Just imagine if you had to choose between not one but two hunky vampires!  Would you fall for the rock and super sexy one or the guy who makes you laugh but is known as a womanizer. One is sure to break her heart! <3

"Fans of Charlaine Harris and TRUE BLOOD will find much to enjoy in Michelle Nelson's cracking, sanguine debut. Dark, funny, audacious and written with a confidence that belies this as her first effort, LIFE AND DEATH OF LILY DRAKE dispenses with the idea that vampires are pasty, maudlin, emo-types and restores them to all their brutal bloodthirsty glory. And in terms of heroines to root for, I daresay Lily Drake gives poor 'ol Sookie a run for her money."   - Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award-Winning author of THE TURTLE BOY and KIN.

For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy...

Dating them is the hard part.

Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom…until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.
Deciding between pizza and Chinese take-out will no longer be one of the hard decisions facing Lily Drake once she is immersed into vampire society. Humanity or immortality? That doesn't hold a candle against this question - which of the two handsome vampire cousins?

The Life and Death of Lily Drake is not your typical vampire love story. It’s a tale about the humorous mistakes a woman makes simply trying to survive not only life, but the dating scene.  How will Lily manage working full-time, taking care of her young son and fighting the undead at every turn?
Lily will have to figure it out, but who better to save the world than a mom?

EXCERPT:

She lowered herself into the almost-too-hot bathwater and breathed a slow, deep sigh. She’d worked herself up all day long. Hot baths always made everything seem a little less crappy. The faucet was still running. She liked to fill the tub to the point of overflow. When the water reached that level, Lily shut it off and submerged herself completely underwater. She began counting the amplified sound of the faucet as it rhythmically released each drop of water.

Lily had reached forty-four when she couldn’t hold her breath any longer. She popped her head back up and patted around for the towel she’d left on the side of the tub. Water streamed across her eyes and her hair was plastered to her face. She searched more frantically for the towel and felt it—and the hand attached to it.

“Are you trying to drown yourself?”

Lily jumped and hit her head on the side of the bathtub before she recognized the voice to be Mathias’s. Quickly, she wiped her face and wrapped the towel around herself, soaking it in the bathwater.

“What is wrong with you? Don’t you knock anymore?”

“I did. I became worried so I let myself inside.”

“You didn’t have to let yourself inside the bathroom!”

“I promise I saw nothing.” The smirk on his face told her otherwise, but she decided to let it go before she embarrassed herself further.Lily clutched the side of the tub with one hand and the soaked towel with the other, trying to step out. The task—attempting to keep herself covered and stand gracefully—was more difficult than it seemed.

Mathias frowned and said, “Let me help you.”

She reached her free hand up for his assistance, but instead of helping her rise to her feet, he gently laid her back into the tub. Lily looked at him, confused, but when he began unbuttoning his shirt, she had a pretty good idea what his offer of help meant. As he slipped out of his pants, Lily’s breath caught in her throat. The man was perfection from head to toe. Her face reddened when the thought of him seeing her in a complete state of undress registered.

“Mathias, will you turn out the light, please?”

“Why would I want to do that?” He looked honestly confused, as well as completely  aroused, as he took in the sight of Lily with only a wet towel clinging to her.

“Because! I’m modest!” Lily’s eyes focused downward on the droplets of water spilling from her knees. She drew the wet towel up to her chest in an attempt to hide more of herself.

“You certainly have no reason to be. You’re beautiful. Let me show you how beautiful I find you.”

Sounds like an exciting book. Those vampires do like to cause trouble.
