Having been married the first time at age eighteen, with the legal drinking age being twenty-one, I didn't really have a big twenty-first birthday party with all the celebratory requirements.  So last year when my friends heard about the lack of a proper twenty-first birthday party, they threw me one.

But before I was allowed to attend the party, I had to get back into shape for a night of wild drinking.  I had given up drinking when I had kids, and hadn't been drunk in over twenty years. We would go out to the local bars and they would introduce me to new drinks to tantilize my tastebuds.  My favorite was the pinapple upside down cake shot.  It was sweet enough to mask the harsher taste of alcohol

At the party, I learned many wonderful games such as flip cup, which is where you have two lines of contestants each slamming, drinking and flipping their red solo cups onto the table top. We also traded all night bracelets (which I think we were supposed to use on our bottles to keep track of them) with titles like lush or frisky.  It was fun to give a bracelet to someone and tell them that they were acting like the label.  Needless to say, I had a wonderful time and enjoyed my over twenty years too late twenty first birthday party.

Now that I survived the party, we want to do it each year.  Hopefully I won't have to start training from scratch.  After all, I already throw a little coconut rum into my lemonade on occasion.  :)

What are your memories from a big party night?  Do you have any favorite drinks I should try?

I don't drink anymore but when I did my favorites were Long Island ice Teas and Sex on the Beach (don't ask me what's in it as I don't recall anymore)!

I've never tried a Long Island Ice Tea because I'm not a fan of tea, but I've had the sex on a beach. I have to be careful about what alchol I do drink. Some make me really sick.

What a fun thing to do. Loved the fact that your friends gave you a 21st birthday party even if it was 20 years later. <^_^>

since i don't really like the taste of most alcohols straight except for Tequila, I recommend a "Sloe Comfortable Screw Up Against The Wall 151 Times". LOL!
(Translation) =) A Screwdriver with Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, Grenadine and 151 proof Bacardi Rum. You can even throw in some Orange Citrus Vodka. Yummy! (Can't taste the alcohol flavors) But oh so potent. Don't have more than 1 of these. tehe. Happy belated 21st Birthday.

Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win such a fantastic prize! <^_^>

Renee,
That sounds like a strong drink! I really do have great friends. There were other games they wanted to teach me but I got hung up looking at the stars and feeling woozy! I ended up going home around midnight, most of them kept drinking!

I remember my graduation night. All of us seniors went to a friends house and had one crazy party. The guys went and bought 3 32 gallon trash cans and everyone that came had to bring something to drink. Needless to say they were filled with whiskey, vodka, fruit punch, orange juice and what ever anyone brought. Was sick for two days. But it was a great night.

Kimmy,
Those garbage can parties are rough! When I was living in Southern Ohio, we were only 15 minutes from West Virginia where you could buy grain alcohol. We had a purple koolaid party with the grain alcohol. I was amazed that you couldn't taste the alcohol but what a kick!

I didn't have a big 21st bday party either. I turned 21 over Easter weekend and pretty much every one went home for the weekend. My favorite drink is a Cape Cod (which is pretty much a Cosmo with a lime wedge).

There used to be this cool bistro here that had the best martini's! One had blueberries in it!

What is Keoki coffee? I love the McDonalds Carmel Mocha. Borders used to make a mean White Chocolate Raspberry Mocha to die for!

Lisa,
I didn't drink for over 20 years before they felt the need to get me back on the horse. Now I'm back to not drinking again...except for the occassional shot of coconut rum in my lemonade.

I'm only 20, so I haven't drunk much yet.... Just Mike's and a margarita once, and an Ameretto Sour. The last was my favorite, possibly because it had so little alcohol content. :)

I rarely drink either and If I do I don't want to taste the alcohol. But, when we went to Jamaica I discovered Coffee Cream Rum, amazing! But, I have never found it in the states.

My 21st birthday was a dud too since I had an exam and the late shift at work. I knocked out once I got home. However, I did enjoy a nerdy night of cranium with an alcoholic twist and a few games of beer pong a few weeks later. I'm not a huge drinker anymore, but I still enjoy an Irish rootbeer here and there.

My "big 21st" was snowed out. A blizzard came through so my boyfriend (now my husband) walked across the road to a local bar. I didn't even get carded. Wooo! Party! I think we had one drink and headed back home to cuddle.

My favorite drink was a variation of Long Island Iced Tea. I don't remember the name though. Otherwise, it's usually sangria.
Lmackesy at gmail dot com

Melissa link
3/25/2012 07:51:39 am

Do you ever add fruit to your Sangria? I learned this trick with ice cube trays. You put a cherry in the tray and fill it with water, then let it freeze. When you use the ice cube in your drink the cherry joins the drink and makes it tasty!

Mike

I've never been drunk, I feel stupid but I still order my strawberry daiquiris as a virgin..on the rare occasion I get one...The taste of any alcohol, at least the few I've tried, doesn't agree with me.
My only drinking horror story, is the only time I drank. lol. At a work Christmas party, they bet me to have a couple shots of tequila. I felt fine and drove home, and wouldn't you know I got pulled over because I totally screwed up going through a traffic cirlce. LOL Luckily I passed the sobriety tests.

I wouldn't have said I was drunk....I spent senior year as an exchange student in Argentina and the class went to Rio for senior break. We spent all day at the beach, I was bright red and was ready to pass out when we left for dinner at the early, for Rio, 9 p.m. We had 1 oz. apertifs which were probably 1/4 booze and no few liked them so several were passed to me. Let's just say I was happy and giggly.

I don't drink much, but I like to keep it simple. A nice, malty beer, not too bitter. Even wine gives me trouble these days. I like after-dinner drinks like Grand Marnier, Chambord, and Drambuie, but the sweetness makes it hard for me to sleep. Man, I sound dull...

I too missed the big 21st birthday celebration (I was on blood thinners due to having a blood clot a couple of months earlier). I have to take them again now, have had to for years. Since I can't drink much due to the meds, I tend to just stick with virgin drinks. Although when I did drink I loved Tequila (straight, Strawberry Margaritas, Tequila Sunrises, etc).

When my husband and I went to Jamaica years ago I had this drink called Ambassador's Reef, it had coconut rum, banana rum and one more thing in it that I can not remember. It has driven me crazy trying to find this recipe and 9 years later I still don't know what the third ingredient is. I can't even drink anymore due to pain meds and I still find myself looking for it, just so I can finally say I found it.

Melissa, I can't stand tea either, but Long Island Iced Tea is one of my favorites, 'cause a good one tastes nothing like tea. I've always assumed the tea in the name comes from the color, which is achieved by adding a little coca-cola. They pack quite a punch, due to the high alcohol to mixer content, which also makes them one of the more expensive mixed drinks to order in a bar. The local bar I used to like them from the best closed a couple of years ago, so I haven't ordered one in a while. If you can afford to buy all the different liquor's to make one, I would suggest making them at home, where you can adjust the amount of sour mash until you get a taste you like. Then when you order one in a bar, you can tell the bartender if you want more than the standard amount of sour mash.

Happy late 21st! It sounds like you had an awesome time! For mine, my mom, brother and aunt took me out and had me drink a whole lot! Needless to say, I do not remember that night. Lol. I have been to some house parties (both when I was younger and now that I am older) and both times, people get crazy. The only difference really is the older you get, the people you party with are just the ones you know, not any random people. At least that's what I have come up with. My favorite drink is called a Jollyrancher. It tastes just like the candy and you can get it in different flavors. :)
Thank you for participating in the HOP and for the giveaway!
