Don't forget to enter the giveaway! ![]() Thunderstruck by Laura DeLuca Taranis, the Celtic god of Thunder, has spent an eternity longing for the touch of a single mortal woman. He has followed her through incarnations, but always his powers were too much for her to bear. Tara is a deaf woman, struggling to fit in the hearing world. She hides a gentle heart behind a tough exterior. Will she let down her defenses when a handsome mute tries to win her heart? And even if she does, can Taranis’ love come without a death sentence? Excerpt: Taranis watched Tara climb onto her moped. She ran her fingers through her short black hair before pulling on her helmet. Mortals would never have been able to see so clearly, but even from across the street he could make out every detail of the art that was etched across her muscular yet feminine arms. They were drenched in color from the corner of her shoulder to the tips of her elbows. On one arm he saw a frog and a crow alongside the Puerto Rican flag, which was the heritage she had chosen in this new life. There was even a flamenco dancer adorned in a pink and green gown, forever frozen in her graceful dance. The other arm displayed a garden of colorful flowers— roses and lilies in blue, black and orange. Taranis imagined the fragrance of those flowers would be more intoxicating than any within the earth because they were drenched in her natural scent. He also noticed that mixed in among the tattoos that spoke of her Latino heritage; there was also a Celtic tribal band wrapped around her left ankle. Taranis knew it was a sign that a part of her was still drawn to the life she had lived before—the life he had been a brief but traumatic part of. Taranis pushed the negative memories away. This was a new era. A new world. One where anything was possible. There were times when the magic of technology seemed to dwarf the powers of the gods themselves. First sign language and then computers with their artificial voices had made it much easier for Taranis to blend in among the mortals. Taranis especially loved the women of the twenty-first century. They were so bold and fearless, unafraid of demanding equality from their male counterparts. Tara was a prime example of that feminist drive. It seemed in each life time, she grew even stronger and more durable. He admired her strength and perseverance, but he also saw the sad and lonely woman she hid beneath the tough and snarky façade. For two years he had watched her, yearned for her, but he was biding his time and building her trust. He had interacted with her in his human guise. Yet, he hadn’t given into the temptation to pursue anything more than a casual friendship, even though her smile insinuated she was open to more. He knew it was fear that restrained him. Each time he thought about romantic innuendos, he remembered Calista lying dead in his arms with blood dripping down her pale neck. Still, he hungered for Tara with a passion unlike anything he had ever known. He had waited centuries for her to return to him after his failure with Calista. He was sure that in this new world where their paths had finally crossed again, he would find a way to make her love him. He didn’t want to risk her life, but Taranis had a secret hope. He believed the very characteristic that she considered her greatest flaw would be the one thing that ensured their happiness in this life and all that followed. When my publisher announced they were doing an anthology called For the Love of the Gods, I didn’t really plan to participate. Then while I was standing in the shower, I was struck with inspiration. But I can’t take full credit for it and neither can my muse. Thunderstruck only exists because of my friend, editor, and fellow author, Tara Chevrestt. She is not only the person who my main character is based on. She’s also the beautiful model on the cover of the e-book! It’s no surprise that Tara is an inspiration to many. She is an amazing writer, a no-nonsense editor, and an active feminist. She has a spunk and fire few people can claim and she’s never afraid to tell things how they are. Tara is also deaf, and while she’s faced a lot of discrimination because of her lack of hearing, she’s never let that stop her from getting what she wanted. More importantly, she doesn’t let it stop her from being happy with who she is, imperfections and all. This was the image I wanted to convey when I wrote Thunderstruck. Tara’s colorful vocabulary and the fact that she can kick some serious butt are only a small part of the story. The most important lesson I wanted people to take away with them is that, like Tara, we should all embrace who we are, including the imperfections that make us unique. Tara’s motto is “Strong is Sexy” and she proves those words every single day. My fictional Tara could never do justice to the real lady, especially not in only thirty-five pages, but it gives you a little piece of the fire that drives a strong woman forward. Get to know Tara and you’ll have no trouble believing she could capture the love of a god. My name is Melissa and I'm addicted to the 1 Night Stand series by Decadent Publishing. I've read bunches of them and still find each one fresh and interesting. Here's one of the latest! Check out the hot guy on the cover! Sexy!! Looks like my wallet is going to be smaller this paycheck! ![]() Seal the Deal by JoAnne Kenrick A 1Night Stand Story Isle of myth and magic. Destined mates. One extraordinary date. After being ditched at the altar, Finn Kneale isolates himself at Port St. Mary’s magnificent lighthouse. A violent storm ravishes the coastline, pitching the maritime tower into the Irish sea and transforming Finn into a seal. Carefree at first, he soon longs to walk as a man again. When leap year arrives, bathing land and sea in magic, Finn temporarily regains his human form. If he can’t find his soul mate in twenty-four hours, he’ll be back to cavorting among the waves. Anne Ward—resident midwife and newcomer to Port St. Mary, Isle of Man—guards some wild secrets of her own while avoiding entanglements with married doctors. A believer in fate, she seeks out Madame Eve’s exclusive agency to help find her destined mate. 1Night Stand matches these two lonely souls. But will their extraordinary date allow Finn and Anne to open their hearts to magical possibilities and Seal the Deal? Excerpt: Finn Kneale slid from his watch-point rock a few miles out from the little tourist trap where he had lived for most of his life. Under the miraculous February 29th lunar eclipse, he delved into the depths of the Irish Sea. The orb hanging over the ocean like a dimmed lantern held his last chance to undo the spell shrouding him in misery. Water lapped, and he twisted, clapping flippers over the sea foam. Waves crashed over his mottled gray-and-black seal self. Excitement rushed through him and exited in a loud, brassy roar. Then he unleashed another and another, each increasing in volume for the benefit of his aquatic friends. The barked announcement told the world Finn hoped to meet his mate tonight. He floated in the shallows, waiting, watching as the old, white lighthouse fluctuated in and out of existence. The sliver of moonlight cast a silvery glow over the once-in-ruins building sitting proud again, high on the cliff’s edge. Its beacon shone bright, yet the gray sky pitched gloom below. He had all of twenty-four hours to seal the deal—as long as the lighthouse stood—then the energy balance would return to normal along the rocky shores of the Isle of Man, the historical maritime building vanishing once again. At least, that was the story his father had relayed every morning for the last four years. Shimmying his slippery body across the pebbled beach of Port St. Mary, he took cover between tall, bulky rocks for the transformation. Safely hidden, he squeezed his eyelids closed and tried to envision his human self. Too much time had passed; he wasn’t sure his memory was close to the mark. Think, Finn, think. Soft cotton towels against his whiskers, the warm touch of the sun on his shoulders as he worked the farm, tasty homemade soup tangy on his tongue. Soft flesh of a woman beneath him. Oh, to be admired for his manliness rather than his cutesy seal features and bubble-blowing talents. Fragmented recollections of the little things were all that had survived years of watching the shoreline. Ferris Dalka used to be Carpathian but over time, the mixing of his blood with the Lycans caused him to physically change. He’s a new breed who is setting out to exterminate the vampire/werewolf threat. Tatijana of the Dragonseeker clan was trapped in ice unable to do more than watch the horrors that went on around her. When she finally receives her freedom, she isn’t about to let a man tie her down. She has too much life to live. Ferris and Tatijana meet and sparks fly. Neither is ready to settle down. Both have issues. I loved the feisty nature of Tatijana. She’s sassy and confident even with all that’s happened to her. She goes toe to toe with Ferris but not in a bossy mean way. Ferris is a true hero. He’s willing to give his life for those he loves and protects. He’s trained his brother how to kill him should Ferris ever turn Vampire. Who gives someone else the knowledge to kill them??? I have read all the books in the Dark Carpathian series by Christine Feehan. I’ve really enjoyed some of the earlier books but found myself frustrated with the same old story over the past few books. The male Carpathian’s are bossy and expect modern women to do what they say. Then the women fight back and of course there’s danger. But this book- Dark Lycan-shows a new storyline and ties into the original characters. I’m looking forward to this series once again. ![]() Promise Me Eden by D’Ann Lindun Eden and Adam Pelletier were high school sweethearts ready to embark on the happiest event in their lives. However, they face an unfathomable loss. But the pain doesn’t bring them closer. It pulls them apart as each of them deal with their pain in different ways. A series of events lead them to realize what’s important in their lives and just how different they are. I’ve been fortunate to have read other books in the Cowboys of Black Mountain series and have fallen in love with the men. They are hard-working, caring, no-nonsense guys. They are men’s men! I’d take any of them home. However, I could really empathize with Eden’s frustration at her husband in this book. Sometimes, I need some reassurances as well, support and talk rather than silence. Mrs. Lindun has written a wonderful series with compelling characters that draw you into their lives. As I read, I was right there with Eden and Adam, seeing their town and feeling their frustrations. I’ve not read the books in order, so I feel that you wouldn’t have to either to enjoy them. Some of the characters show up in the other books of the series. But each book tells its own tale of a cowboy and the woman that captures his heart. If you love a wonderfully written, sweet and sexy romance, you should pick up this book and series. Now I’m off to read another one! If only D’Ann would tell me where to find my own cowboy! Today I'm not only sharing an author who was here before, but Amy Lee Burgess has six books available in her hot paranormal romance series. You can take your pick. I'm going to feature her latest release book #6- Across the Line. But be sure to check them all out!! Amy Lee is sharing her thoughts about the dance to the bedroom.... let's show Amy Lee some love. ******** In a romance novel, the dance to the bedroom can be immediate or drawn out, but no matter where it happens in the book, sparks have to fly and the reader must be transported. Without some crafting, a sex scene could fall flat or be unintentionally cheesy. Overworked, it can become mechanical and labored. Where is the right balance? For me, it’s with the characters. I want to know what they sense – what color are the sheets? Is that incense? His cologne? What does it smell like? Is his beard stubble rough on her cheeks? What does her hair feel like when he’s got a fistful as he’s kissing her? What does his skin taste like when she licks him? Is there music playing in the background? How does his voice sound he tells her he loves her? I try not to overdo it. I like to cover all five senses, but I don’t catalog every last thing they are sensing. If I am writing from a man’s perspective, I focus a lot on the visual since men are visually stimulated. What does her body look like as he strips off her shirt? With women I focus more on sensation – how does his body feel against hers as he moves over her on the bed? Is there a bed? Location is also important and fun to play with. Some of my favorite sex scenes have taken place in unconventional places – against a stone wall in an ancient castle or on a staircase (Logistics for that one took quite a bit of plotting out!) The Pack members in the Wolf Within series cannot shift into their wolves without having sex first. So sex plays an integral role aside from romance. When they are between eighteen and twenty, they are paired with a mentor who will initiate them into how to shift and work with their wolves. This involves sex, but without romance. It is very uncommon for someone to bond with their mentor. That person is usually older and experienced. Handling those types of sex scenes need special finesse because they are sensual, yet they are not romantic. It is an intimate exchange based on mutual trust and Pack desires not (usually) focused on the romantic. In the fourth novel in the series, Inside Out, Stanzie initiates Alan, a young man from the Mayflower pack. Here’s how it went: *** “Oh, God.” Alan clutched at my hair as I ran my tongue across his belly and unzipped his jeans. We were on my bed, empty water bottles on the nightstand, shades drawn and a stick of patchouli incense burning on top of the radiator. Enough sunlight filtered beneath the shades to fill the room with a dim light. I wanted Alan to see everything, but not be blinded by artificial light. “Stanzie.” His voice was full of dark excitement coupled with anxiety as I pushed his jeans down to his knees and he struggled to help me. He wouldn’t let go of my hair and it made it hard to move, but I didn’t try to get him to release me. He wore no underwear and he’d shaved for me. He was a sweetheart, this guy. I licked the tip of his erection and he gasped. His fingers tightened with an almost unbearable pressure on my hair. I took him in my mouth and he groaned--a sound of raw longing that sent a thrill of desire through me. Virgins were hard work. I wasn’t used to taking the lead or at least doing most of the heavy lifting. Experienced partners knew how to toss control back and forth between them, but Alan knew nothing. I was down to my bra and panties, and I reached one hand around to unhook my bra. When it was off, I moved on top of Alan and let my nipples brush his chest. He let go of my hair when I kissed him and his arms went around me as we twined our tongues together. My fat lip was still a little swollen and tender, so kissing hurt, but it was a good pain and the more I did it, the better it felt. Alan liked to kiss and, with just a little practice he would be great at it. Already he made my breath come shorter and shorter as I got into it and, when he reached a tentative hand between my legs, I spread them wider to encourage him. His fingers were warm as he worked against the silk barrier of my panties which prevented his full exploration. His erection poked at my belly, the tip slick and wet. As I kissed him, I shimmied out of my panties and moved his hand back between my legs. His touch was feather light and tentative so I took one of his fingers and guided it inside me so he could feel how hot I was for him. “Stanzie,” he said again, and moved his hands to my hips. I shifted my weight to my knees and eased him into me inch by inch. He cried out and gritted his teeth as he strained to hold himself back. I moved up and down slowly, but it was still too fast. “I...can’t. Stanzie,” he cried. “Shh, hold still,” I whispered. I froze in place, my mouth against his hot neck and he held onto me and shuddered. “Think about something else, baby. Anything.” “I...oh, God, this feels so good. I...” His hands moved to my hair again and we rested together, perfectly still, for several heartbeats. I kissed his neck then the smooth line of his jaw and began to move again. This time he moved too. He followed my lead and we established a rhythm. I kissed him, the kisses deeper and deeper until we both were breathless. I sat up and let him watch me move on top of him, his hands on my hips. His eyes burned with unearthly silver and I felt his wolf awaken. Feral energy rippled across his body and cast out a heat that snared us within it. He felt it too and shock spread across his face. “What the hell is that?” he whispered and his eyes turned to ice white with just a tint of blue silver. He came hard then and a wild shout of triumph and lust ripped from his throat. His fingers dug into my flesh. I moved on top of him as my knees sank into the mattress and I made him scream again before he gave a convulsive shudder and went limp beneath me. *** How’d I do? CONTENT WARNING: Vulgar language, some sexual situations ~~~~~ Across the Line by Amy Lee Burgess {Excerpt} We didn’t get three feet through the apartment door before he had me on the floor, tearing at my clothes. I ripped at his too. He kicked the door shut with his foot while simultaneously tearing at my clothes. I sank my teeth into his shoulder and he yanked my hair hard. “Are we playing rough?” he asked me. For an answer, I head butted him. “That’s for being a giant asshole.” We rolled over and over, smashed into the coffee table and knocked the lamp in the corner over. The crash of the bulb shattering was loud as hell. “We’re not rolling around in glass.” Murphy lifted me up and I locked my legs around his waist. He staggered us over to one of the sofas. We crashed down and the springs gave a protesting wail. I scratched his back with my nails and he bit my lip until we both tasted my blood. It smeared across our faces as we kissed and he shifted so I straddled him on my knees as he sat upright. “I love you,” he said as he tongued my earlobe. He sucked on it, sending a shooting burst of pleasure through my body. “I love you,” I told him. When he lifted his head, his eyes gleamed with tears he blinked away. “Say it again,” he begged. “Tell me again.” “I love you.” I cupped his face with my hands. Beneath my fingers, his cheeks were smooth and warm. When his wolf colored his eyes amber, my wolf reached for his through me. He pulled me down so he could kiss me and our lovemaking turned slow and gentle. His touch was reverent and lingering, his kisses a drug that pulled me into him, so my heart beat in time with his. He brushed his lips, feather light, across my bruised jaw and bleeding lip, whispered to me in Irish as we moved together in a slowly building rhythm. A rush of energy, my soul to his, and I buried my face in his sticky warm throat. God, I loved this infuriating man. ![]() Amy Lee Burgess is a transplanted New Englander living in Houston, Texas with two dogs and lots of DVDs. I remember those years clearly for me. The Flowering Series addresses those changes and those years. Let's welcome Sarah Daltry to share her thoughts on What is New Adult! Let's show some love and don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end. What is New Adult? Forget Me Not, along with Lily of the Valley, Star of Bethlehem, and the rest of the planned Flowering series, is a New Adult novel. However, that distinction seems to be unclear to a lot of people, who label things like Fifty Shades of Grey as New Adult. I don’t see any book featuring a character in their late teens or early 20’s as New Adult. I think there are specific elements that need to be present to categorize as book as truly NA. For starters, I used to be a YA librarian/reading coordinator. Through my work with YA literature, I was taught to identify what is YA and what is not. Again, just because the characters are teens DOES NOT make the book YA. YA is often about the problems and concerns about young adults, just as NA is about the problems and concerns about New Adults. So what are those? For YA, the common themes are fitting in, identity, social pressure, etc. The themes in NA are often basically the same, except the stakes are higher usually. If you are struggling with your life choices at 16, for instance, you often still have time to learn from your mistake. At 22, the consequences could be farther reaching. Forget Me Not is about college. It’s about going away from home and being on your own for the first time. It’s about figuring out what you want, about suddenly not having to answer to anyone, but also about not having anyone to turn to, either. People say Lily is whiny, but I don’t see her that way as well. She’s not emotionally unstable; she’s just a kid. She’s used to things being basically on a plan, and now they are not. She made a choice to be independent of her brother and boyfriend, but she has doubts now that she is. Is the book romance and sexy? Yes. But I don’t think that’s really what it’s about. It’s real NA, real coming of age. It’s about choosing your own life, about embracing your sexuality and your independence, about growing up and facing things that are outside of your scope. Because that’s what it means to be a “new” adult. Thanks Sarah! Now read about her books!! ![]() Forget Me Not by Sarah Daltry Forget Me Not Flowering Series Book 1 This isn’t a sweet and innocent coming of age story. Yep... even writers have them, especially when I'm not just a writer but a Kindergarten teacher the Monday after Halloween. Today the children were a little far from ordinary. One child came into school upset over hearing a fight between his parents. At four years old, he couldn't get it off his mind. He could only focus for ten minutes at a time. In between the moments of focus was tortures of pencils and pen throwing, everything being dumped off my desk including papers sent flying. The child even climbed on the tables and tried to dump over the puppet theater. Other children were on sugar highs. One child told me that he had five treats in his lunch box today. This child normally is very loud. He only has a loud button and shouting is his regular indoor voice. Today he was so loud that other children around him covered their ears when he laughed or cracked a joke. Days like that make me wonder if the parents dislike me. ![]() Karma being what it is... today one of my students found the only pile of dog poop on the playground. He'd walked in it. We tried to get it off by wiping said smelly tennis shoes on the grass. Nope...nada...no luck. So during the beginning of my lunch, I washed the child's shoes off in the bathroom. I couldn't have him walking around the school and in the classroom tracking that shit (literally) all over the place. A nice thank you note from administration would make my day! ![]() This week our letter of the week is "W". We tried to come up with all the words that began with "W's" such as what, waddle, water, walk, wolf, window, wall, wild, and wahooo! One child even suggested wine. I sure hope that a bottle of wine doesn't end up in my sound basket on Thursday! However, I'd have liked to have something to take the edge off by the end of the day. But I don't drink. ![]() So while I'm reminiscing about the day (don't I look calm now?), I'd love to hear about your day! Please tell me it wasn't just me...maybe your day was worse! (there's another "w" word!) I think I'm going to go hide under the covers with the puppies and hope that tomorrow's day is better. It has to be, right?? RIGHT??? Come on... you can try to make me feel better! This is the second book in the Project Terminal series. What happens when a deadly virus is being used against humans? Would you be able to trust anyone?? ![]() Project Terminal: Devil's Virus by Olivia Starke Max must put old heartaches aside and trust Reed to help her while she develops the cure for the devil's virus. Dr. Maxwell Straight once committed her life to sparing families the pain of losing loved ones in war. While she had the best intentions for her role in Project Terminal, her twin sister, Dr. Marguerite 'Doc' Straight, had different ideas. When Max suggested using a deadly virus to help speed healing to super soldiers injured in the field, her sister turned it into a horrific weapon of mass destruction instead. Now Max must trust a man who broke her heart to keep her safe while she develops a cure for what she started. Adam 'Preacher' Reed saw what was coming in Project Terminal long before anyone else. When his warnings fell on deaf ears he turned away from the project, and Max, for good. He'd given his body to science, but he wouldn't sell his soul. Now Max needs his help to stop the spread of the undead plague, and he'll do anything to see the project fall. What he doesn't count on are the feelings he still holds for the scientist who chose her twisted work over him. Can he keep Max alive long enough to develop the cure? Or will his worst fears be realized—losing his heart to Max, and their lives to the project? Content Warning: graphic sex, strong language, and violence Excerpt: Reed growled, lifting her from her feet. She wrapped her legs around his waist and he sat her on a lab table. The cold metal top chilled her as he stepped back. His eyes burned a trail down her torso. He leaned in, bracing his hands on each side of her hips, trapping her between. He stared into her eyes. "This is a serious complication, Max." The words sounded forced. Max had to clear her throat. "It will definitely get in the way." "We need to stop right now." "Yes, we do." She hung suspended, both fearing he'd move in or back off. Neither option seemed satisfactory with the war going on between head, heart, and loins. "Max, I—" A huge crash reverberated through the room, shocking a scream from her lungs. Reed whirled toward the noise, bracing his feet wide. Raspy breathing sounded from down the hallway, and Max's heart thundered. "What the hell is that?" she whispered. Footfalls slapped down the hall, bare feet hitting the tile flooring. Max held her breath, unsure what to do while Reed dove for his rifle. The undead appeared in the doorway, the sad remains of a woman. Her mouth hung agape, foam dripping from her lips. Reed aimed, but it ducked down, disappearing behind the rows of tables. "Damn it." Reed jumped on a table and shot Max a glance. "Stay where you are." Max stood on the table, searching the murky corners. The thing's breathing echoed, making the woman impossible to pinpoint. Reed jumped tabletop to tabletop, keeping his rifle trained on the floor. It seemed the undead was more clever than Max realized, keeping just out of sight. She searched for a weapon, feeling defenseless and useless to provide assistance. Nothing handy presented itself beyond a few microscopes within reach. She focused on Reed who didn't look the least bit panicked. He moved silently without any wasted movement. He paused, and fired, the loud pop making her jump. She heard the scraping of nails on the tile and Reed shot again. All fell silent. One of the most beautiful areas in the country, she loves hiking trails with her dogs, kayaking on the numerous waterways, and enjoying southern Missouri's fresh air and sunshine. She's also 'Mom' to four dogs, a growing number of kitties that show up at her door, and four VERY spoiled horses that do little to earn their keep. Not that she'd ever hold that against them. FREE on Amazon October 31st - November 4th Amazon Buy Links: US Canada UK Excerpt: “You can’t be serious.” Claire mustered the dirtiest look possible for her best friend. Tiffany held out her hands and air-squeezed the man’s firm rear end from a distance. “C’mon. Look at that ass.” “Yes, but a Santa Claus? How do I know what he looks like under that suit and beard?” Imagining removing the white hair to find a wrinkled old man, she shuddered. “Only one way to find out.” Smacking Claire’s butt, Tiffany urged her forward. “Go ask him.” She planted her feet. Thank goodness she hadn’t worn heels for their marathon shopping trip two days before Christmas. “If you’re so interested, why don’t you?” Tiffany rolled her eyes, sighing. “Because I’m engaged to be married to the love of my life. You’re the Grinch who needs to get laid.” “I’m not a Grinch,” she snapped. Breathing deeply, she counted backwards from ten. “I’m sorry. This is a very stressful time of year for me.” “I know.” Tiffany cupped her elbow. “I just want to see you happy at Christmas again. It doesn’t have to be a miserable holiday anymore. That’s part of the reason I dragged you with me today.” She swallowed the lump in her throat, tears welling already. Please don’t let me turn into a blubbering mess in the middle of the mall. While she appreciated her friend’s concern, she coped better on her own. “I…I should go home. I can’t pretend it didn’t happen.” About the Author: Jessica Subject is the author of contemporary and science fiction romance, ranging from sweet to erotica.
