Caring for Grandparents #lizashlee #coverreveal

3/21/2024

Picture
Have you had a good relationship with your grandparents? I have been fortunate to be able to spend much of my childhood with my grandparents. When I was in high school, I was able to "babysit" my grandfather who was dealing with dementia. I would spend the day with him so that grandma could go out and give herself some alone time. It was challenging caring for a person with dementia. I still have fond memories of that time.

I love that Liz Ashlee's latest book- MOVING FORWARD- has a hero with a close relationship with his grandmother. Cain is always able to rely on his grandmother. Their relationship is a close one. MOVING FORWARD is now up for preorder and will be released on April 16th in ebook and paperback. You will want to grab this emotional read about a couple who are dealing with real world problems.

Blurb:
He’s her anchor. She’s his life preserver.

Maxine Dawson is pretending. She’s pretending to be excited for her best friend’s impending wedding, pretending her plans don’t involve moving back in with her parents, pretending she can move on from her past. Mostly, she’s been pretending that she’s been okay since her fiancé, Ethan, died.

Cain Hazelton is many things, but he is not pretending. Everyone knows about his short fuse, his preference for seclusion, that he only lets himself care about one person - his Grams.

When Max and Cain’s worlds collide, they gravitate toward each other for different reasons. For Max, Cain shuts down her constant flood of emotions and for Cain, Max makes him feel his emotions for the first time in his life. But before they can find their happiness they must overcome their pasts, their fears, and a take a chance on love.

Liz Ashlee’s stories are emotional reads about real world problems. Fans of An Optimist’s Guide to Heartbreak/A Pessimist’s Guide to Heartbreak by Jennifer Heartmann and Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker will love her romance about grief and finding the one who makes you want to live again.

Going Home Again #newromance #newrelease

3/18/2024

Picture
I have warm feelings for my hometown. I used to visit it each month but in the recent years, I haven't been back. My father had moved out of town and so we never got back. But the town is still the place my heart recognizes as my home. It still shows up in my dreams.

Author Lorelei Henderson shows that same love for Boston, the hometown of her main characters in TO PLAY FOR LOVE. They both have fond memories of growing up, high school, and want to give back to their community. It's that love of home that resonates through the book.

TO PLAY FOR LOVE is a wonderful romance filled with nostalgia and family moments. I loved the twist with the characters' choices. Now available in ebook, TO PLAY FOR LOVE will be one story you will want to read again and again.

Blurb:
A struggling actress must decide between Hollywood success or a hometown love…Especially when her heart is on the line.

Cassandra Chaletaine worked hard to catch her break in Tinsel Town but she’s struggling because of her race, talent or plain bad luck. She returns home to Boston for her father’s retirement party and to re-evaluate her career.

While touring a new theatre in her old neighborhood, she literally bumped into her old friend and former Hollywood writer, Michael Kiley. They’d always had much in common, both being bi-racial and shared dreams of Hollywood success.

After finding Hollywood lacking, Michael fled to give back to his hometown. He was delighted to see Cassandra, having always been in love with her but too afraid to risk their friendship. Now that she was back in Boston, the love he’d harbored for years, blooms.

Cassandra falls hard for Michael too, but she’s pulled between her life in Hollywood and the one in her hometown. When her agent calls with her dream break, Cassandra has to make the biggest decision of her life— would it be Hollywood or Love?

TO PLAY FOR LOVE is great for fans of Elin Hilderbrand’s novels. Many of her novels are about family, it’s the foundational theme and TO PLAY FOR LOVE is all about family and hometown love. Additionally, fans of Jasmine Guillory’s wonderful novels will also love TO PLAY FOR LOVE. Ms. Guillory’s characters are fully fleshed out people with tremendously relatable storylines that her readers love, just as they will love Cassandra, Michael and all the people that make up their lives.

EXCERPT:
Cassandra continued up the walk toward the double-glass entrance doors when she was suddenly bumped from behind. When she turned, a stack of wooden dining chairs were being held aloft by strong arms. Through the chair’s slats, she caught a glimpse of bright gray eyes in a solidly handsome brown face partially covered in a neatly trimmed beard.

They stared at each other through the slats for brief, heart-pounding seconds with a sudden, irretrievable fore knowledge of the past and the present entwining like lovers.

“Sorry,” a deep, rum-colored voice said from the stack. “I wasn’t paying enough attention to where I was going.”

He side-stepped right at the same time Cassandra did, causing them to bump again before he pulled off a deft twist, turning the chairs from between them out of harm’s way as he circled around her. He took a few steps, stopped a beat before moving off, and disappearing inside.

She stared after him. For a moment, she thought she’d recognized him. It was the voice … she knew it yet couldn’t place it. Then again, it could just be her active imagination.

“What’s wrong, Cass?” Her sister had come up beside her.

“I thought I recognized someone, but maybe not.”

Sisters #newromance #inkspellpub

3/4/2024

Sisters are something that I know a lot about. I have four! And while we don't always get along, we are family... and we know the secrets.

Author Jennifer Raines has twin sisters in her latest release, MASQUERADE. These two are about as opposite as can be but can get by pretending to be the other. While that sounds great on the surface, I know from many TV shows over the years, that it really isn't a good idea. With that in the back of my mind, I knew the mix-up would come back to haunt Kate.

MASQUERADE is more than the traditional sister swap story. Ms. Raines uses the swap in a unique way. Toss in a romance with a hunky business man, and I was unable to stop turning the pages.

Now available in ebook and paperback, MASQUERADE is a great story about one woman's hidden passions.

Blurb:
Fool me once…
Money won’t bring LIAM QUINN’S father back, but it’ll save his mother’s home. A high-paying law partnership is in his sights. To win it, he needs to successfully land a project. Problem is the project requires absolute confidentiality, and he’s just discovered his estranged identical twin is appearing life size on a billboard across the city. The second catch is a return to environmental law. His earlier career imploded after his lover was revealed as a mining company spy.

Researcher and soon-to-be-published romance author KATE TURNER needs a disguise. Maybe more than one. Her famous playwright father despises ‘trashy’ novels. Her ex-boyfriend mocked her ‘dirty little secret’, then stalked her when she left him. Her identical twin coaxes her into appearing on a billboard to prove she can be notorious and anonymous at the same time. No one connects the billboard model to the dowdy researcher Kate has become, and no one knows about her author pseudonym and second disguise as Ms. Sexy Romance.

Kate and Liam’s lives collide when she’s hired as Liam’s research assistant. Liam’s boss laughs off the billboard. Having doubles is the perfect cover for confidential field work.

A masquerade, a road trip, a steamy attraction, the sudden appearance of Liam’s old lover, and Ms. Sexy Romance’s unexpected arrival in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Liam and Kate discover the steps they took to protect their hearts might break them.

Award winning author Jennifer Raines’ stories combine a love of romance with contemporary conflicts. Her writing is both relevant and heart-warming. Each story is a journey across the world. Jennifer likes to think her readers get occasional hints of the deep passion of a Nora Roberts or the unshakeable loyalty of a Grace Burrowes where love conquers loneliness, distrust and fear.

--“A Jennifer Raines romance will make you sigh in the best possible way!”-- Best Selling Author, Grace Burrowes

EXCERPT:
Liam gestured to her report, open in front of him. “Simple summaries of assorted environmental disputes across Australia. That’s not a lot to work with.”

“Have you read my report, Mr. Quinn?” Kate emphasised his surname, annoyance at the snub for her research trumping her anxiety at exposure. She’d back her research skills against anyone in this room.

“I’ve scanned it.” His shoulder lifted in an offhand shrug.

Arrogant moron. Another man living in an echo chamber, so sure his worldview was right not even a drone buzzing overhead would alert him to imminent attack. Was he hostile because his identical twin Niall had kept the billboard campaign secret from him? Or generally hostile to new ideas? “Then you’re being deliberately offensive.”

“Not yet,” he answered, leaning forward—a panther preparing to spring.

Dismayed to be so attuned to his slightest movement, she stiffened her spine.

Liam had her second-guessing her defence strategy. Until Liam, Kate had trusted that Ms. Dowdy Researcher couldn’t be linked to the billboard—the final stress test to confirm no one, especially not her besuited, controlling ex-boyfriend, would recognise Ms. Dowdy as Anna Turner’s twin.

About the Author:
Australian Jennifer Raines writes sensual contemporary romances set mainly, but not exclusively, in Australia – think Malta, Finland, New Zealand or ? A dreamer and an optimist, her stories are a delicious cocktail of mutual respect, passion and loyalty because she still believes in happily-ever-afters.

Jennifer fell in love with romance as a teenager. Starting with historical romance. Everything in the school library and then a personal treasured collection of Georgette Heyer, hard copies, paperbacks and ebooks. Comfort food, she calls them, like vegemite toast, for those times when she feels low. Her library of comfort food has grown over the years but Georgette Heyer was an early star, under the blankets after lights out using a torch.

Jennifer is a member of Romance Writers of Australia. Three times a finalist in the Emerald competition, including in 2017 (Common Cause, renamed Lela’s Choice), 2018 (Taylor’s Law) and 2022 (Quinn, by Design – Choosing Family Book 2). She’s a member of Romance Writers of New Zealand, winning the Pacific Hearts competition twice, including in 2019 with Grace Under Fire, the sequel to Taylor’s Law. She’s also a member of Romance Writers of America and has been a finalist in chapter competitions in 2019, 2020 and 2021 (Taylor’s Law). Jennifer won the contemporary romance section in the 2020 Orange Rose Contest for Planting Hope and was second overall. Jennifer values competitions for the constructive, honest, not always comfortable feedback they provide.

In 2023 Jennifer placed second in the Romance Writers of New Zealand Koru Best First Book
Jennifer loves those days when words flow and the joy of writing makes the hard slog worthwhile. She’s always made up stories about strangers in the street, in a café or strolling through an airport terminal; finding inspiration in snippets of conversations, news items and the sheer puzzle of human interactions.

Jennifer lives in inner-city Sydney, Australia, with the requisite number of partners (1) and animals (2). Her desk overlooks a park which nourishes her soul when she raises her head from her keyboard. She gets some of her best ideas during long yin yoga poses or walking – anywhere. While Jennifer adores historical romance, she chose to write contemporary because she thought (wrongly) it needed less research while she was holding down a full-time job.
