Having not seen the first two movies nor read the books, I was still able to enjoy this movie. I know I’m probably the only one who hadn’t… I give The Mockingjay Part 1- a B-. Yes this is only the first part of the movie based on the best-selling book. So if you are looking for a happily ever after, this movie won’t give you it. With the Games now destroyed and in pieces, Katniss Everdeen, along with some of her friends and family end up in the "destroyed" District 13. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her friends, Katniss becomes the "Mockingjay" and the symbol of rebellion for the people. The movie had a similar feel to The Maze Runner another movie based on a best-selling book, although Maze Runner was more geared to the male young adult audience. Certainly fans of the Hunger Games books or the earlier movies will enjoy this one. However, even I did without the background. My favorite parts were the relationship pieces. Katniss does what it takes to protect the people she cares about, even if it’s the whole country. But be prepared for a lot of images of Katniss in angst. She’s always crying and looking like she’s a little constipated. The biggest laugh was earned by Woody Harrelson, who is supposed to be sober in this movie. See what clean living can do for you!
